Bergoglio Destroys Another Conservative Religious Association



Pope Francis Extinguished the Flame of the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae (SCV) by Dissolving the Community

Pope Francis has dissolved the conservative Sodalitium Christianae Vitae (SCV), an international Catholic lay community that also includes about a hundred priests. Once again, the actual or perceived failure of individuals in the intra-Church directional conflict provided the lever for the welcome dismantling of the opposing side on a completely different level. The dissolution of the Sodalitium cannot be understood without considering the open properties that remain in Latin America.

The dissolution was announced yesterday by the Vatican Press Office and also disseminated by the secular media with obvious satisfaction. The reason given was the failure of the founder, who is accused of severe sexual abuse, although no formal proceedings, let alone a conviction, have taken place in any secular or ecclesiastical court.

What is being concealed: The dissolution decisively resolved a decades-long power struggle in the Church in Latin America, as the Sodalitium represented a counter-movement to Marxist liberation theology.

The Vatican Press Office published the decree of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life, which, however, bears no date, leading to initial assumptions that it was dated yesterday. In fact, the dissolution had already taken place on March 29th, a few days after Francis' return from the Gemelli Clinic to the Vatican. This was announced yesterday by the Sodalitium itself.

The dissolution followed years of investigations involving serious abuse allegations against the founder, as well as alleged financial irregularities within the community. The wording of the statement released yesterday is as follows:

"Upon conclusion of an investigation ordered by Pope Francis on July 5, 2023, to verify the validity of the accusations of various responsibilities attributed to Mr. Luis Fernando Figari and numerous other members of the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae, it was decided to dissolve the Societies of Apostolic Life of the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae and the Marian Fraternity of Reconciliation, as well as the Associations of the Faithful of the Handmaids of the Plan of God and the Movement of Christian Life.

The corresponding decrees of dissolution, issued by the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life and expressly confirmed by the Holy Father, have recently been notified."

The SCV was founded in Peru in 1971 as a movement for spiritual renewal within the Catholic Church. It developed into an international community with a broad global presence. Over the years, however, increasing concern grew regarding the internal practices of the community. At least, that is the generally vague portrayal.

In reality, the matter goes deeper, with two levels to be distinguished: the Sodalitium and its significance for the Church in Latin America, and the personal actions of its founder.

The Background

Let's take a step back. During the Cold War, Latin America became an ideological and geopolitical battleground between the two power blocs. The Soviet Union at that time sought to lead the decolonization movement and thereby expand its influence. This was particularly true for Africa and Asia. In Latin America, while not the primary focus, communist propaganda attempted to introduce such elements, but the main issues were stark social disparities and, in particular, a major adversary, the USA, which, since the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine in 1904, claimed the entire American continent as its sphere of interest and exercised dominance there.

Thus, political forces that had sympathized with European fascism or even National Socialism before 1945, primarily as a chance to break free from US encirclement, switched to the communist side after 1945, as the Soviet Union alone seemed a promising counterplayer to the USA. This phenomenon also occurred within the Catholic Church. A particularly well-known example of this shift is the Brazilian Archbishop Hélder Câmara, but Pope Francis himself, albeit in the wake of a lingering movement, is personally involved through his sympathies for Peronism.

Within the Church, against the backdrop of these political and social conflicts, Marxist-influenced liberation theology emerged, aiming to unite Christianity and socialism. Peru was a core region: There, in 1971, the Dominican Gustavo Gutierrez gave the movement, which had been active since the early 1960s, its powerful name: Liberation Theology.

In the same year, also in Peru, Luis Fernando Figari, a layman strongly motivated by personal faith, founded the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae (SCV), which, in contrast to the Marxist liberation theologians, sought to provide less a political but more a religious response. Social and political answers had to arise from personal conversion, the conviction held, which is why everyone had to start with themselves.

Peru had been ruled since a military coup in 1968 by General Juan Velasco Alvarado. As the leader of the Peruvian Revolution, he pursued a decidedly left-wing course. Velasco took a critical stance against the USA and sought closer ties with both the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China. In his numerous fundamental reforms, Velasco was supported by liberation theologians. The Church in Peru was deeply divided by the overall developments.

The founding of the SCV, like Opus Dei, met the needs of many Catholics aligned with the traditional order. Thus, the SCV was not only a movement of spiritual renewal but, from the beginning, if not directly, a counter-movement to liberation theology.

While liberation theology found great and often favorable media support in Western Europe, the SCV remained largely unnoticed for a long time but was perceived in Latin America as a conservative bulwark against leftist subversion of the Church – by both sides.

The conservative orientation in Catholic doctrine, the emphasis on the hierarchical structure within the Sodalitium, the recognition of ecclesiastical authority, the strong spiritual focus, the rejection of leftist ideologies and revolutionary aspirations, and the defense of Catholic identity made the SCV one of several conservative magnets in Latin America. Thus, the Sodalitium became a Catholic reference point and attracted numerous young men seeking a clear Catholic identity in contrast to the spreading progressive tendencies in the Church. The SCV maintained schools in several countries and had direct influence on at least one university founded by it in Peru. In 2002, Figari was appointed Consultor of the Pontifical Council for the Laity by Pope John Paul II.

With the election of Pope Francis, liberation theology circles in Latin America saw the opportunity to decide the decades-long power struggles in their favor. This primarily included the suppression or complete elimination of disliked communities, such as Opus Dei, the SCV, the Instituto del Verbo Encarnado, and the Heralds of the Gospel, to name a few.

Pope Francis himself comes from Latin America and is very familiar with the conditions there. Above all, he supports the fight against markedly conservative communities out of his own conviction.

The Scandal and the Dismantling

Around 2010, internal allegations of psychological and homosexual abuse by Figari against young men of the Sodalitium reportedly became known. Publicly, this happened only several years later. Figari continues to deny the allegations. In 2010, at the age of 70, he resigned from the leadership of the SCV, of which he had been the Superior General since 1971. Outwardly, the resignation was presented as a voluntary withdrawal; internally, it is said, there was pressure due to unspecified allegations. Thus, his figure remained untouched within the community for the time being. He no longer had formal influence but continued to enjoy great respect and thus informal influence over the community's houses.

In 2011, the General Chapter elected the former Vicar General Eduardo Regal Villa as the new Superior General. Like his predecessor, Regal is also a layman. Although the SCV also includes priests, it is fundamentally a lay movement, which is why the leadership of the community was also in lay hands. During Regal's tenure, the abuse allegations against Figari intensified and likely led to Regal's resignation.

In 2012, Alessandro Moroni Llabrés was elected as the new Superior General.

In 2015, the book "Mitad monjes, mitad soldados" ("Half Monks, Half Soldiers") by former SCV member Pedro Salinas, in collaboration with a Peruvian journalist, was published. He accused Figari of psychological violence during his time as Superior General and claimed, albeit vaguely, to have been a victim of psychological and physical abuse himself in the 1980s. He reported homosexual abuse, which he accused Figari and some others of, from hearsay.

The Peruvian Public Prosecutor's Office initiated preliminary investigations, which were archived in 2017 because they were substantially insufficient or already time-barred, but above all because no victims came forward. Subsequently, five alleged victims filed a criminal complaint for forming a criminal association and kidnapping, which is why another prosecutor reopened the investigation in 2018 amid polemics against his colleague who had archived the case. The politicized media accompaniment apparently played the largest role, suggesting that there was a cover-up even in the judiciary. However, the new investigations, despite being pursued for eight years, also had to be archived without result in 2024.

Pope Francis, however, had initiated ecclesiastical investigations in parallel in 2015.

In 2015, Pope Francis sent Bishop Fortunato Pablo Urcey, Prelate of Chota in Peru, as Apostolic Visitor.

In 2016, the Sodalitium declared that an internal investigation had confirmed the allegation of sexual abuse and that Figari was therefore declared persona non grata. Based on the visitation report, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith imposed sanctions on Figari for sexual abuse, psychological abuse, and unethical behavior. Figari emphasized his innocence and spoke of a campaign to discredit his person and the Sodalitium.

In 2017, the SCV leadership declared that it accepted the Roman judgment and that Figari was no longer a member of the Sodalitium, as he had lost all rights and duties as a member. Based on the aforementioned conviction, the Roman Congregation for Religious imposed a series of penalties on Figari: he was expelled from the community, he had to lead a life of penance and seclusion in an assigned place (Rome); he was no longer allowed to return to Peru and he was not allowed to have contact with the community. Figari complied with the measures.

In 2018, Pope Francis sent Msgr. Noel Londoño, Bishop of Jericó in Colombia, as Papal Commissioner with full powers to lead, supervise, and reform the SCV, although the community's leadership formally remained in office, but the final decision on all matters rested with Londoño. Figari's appeals against the Roman measures were rejected.

In 2019, a new Superior General was elected: José David Correa González took office.

In 2022, the homo-activist and Pope's friend Juan Carlos Cruz, inexplicably a member of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, demanded the dissolution of the Sodalitium. This move fueled doubts about the motives of the papal actions in the SCV case.

In 2024, the Vatican expelled ten members from the SCV. Some were accused of abuse of various kinds, especially psychological. Mainly, the Vatican decision stated, the individuals had contributed to maintaining Figari's "system" and its cover-up. Figari himself was also expelled, as, according to the justification, there had been no formally legally valid expulsion decree until then. Emeritus Archbishop José Antonio Eguren of Piura was also expelled. No guilt is discernible in the case of other expelled individuals. The accusation that they had "endangered the credibility and integrity of the Church" is very broadly worded. The fact is that there were efforts to save the SCV, not least to prevent the ecclesiastical balance from tilting further to the left. An appeal against the expulsions was prohibited by Francis.

In 2025, the Sodalitium and all affiliated associations were dissolved.

Necessity or Revenge?

Figari had resigned in 2010, his influence had been minimal since 2012 and non-existent since 2016. He has not been in the community for almost ten years. Therefore, the question arises whether the dismantling of the Sodalitium is really a necessary and appropriate measure. The repression applied since 2015 is seen by secular and ecclesiastical media as a "turning point in the Church's handling of internal abuse scandals" and demonstrates "the Vatican's willingness to hold even influential members accountable." However, this interpretation is precisely where the reading falters. The fact is that under Francis, a strict selection takes place in the fight against abuse: abuse is actively and unilaterally fought, then all the more loudly, when it can be used to eliminate conservative intra-Church opponents. Were revenge thoughts ultimately the real driving force behind the Roman interventions against the SCV?

The purge that Francis has carried out in Latin America is considerable. A look at the four conservative communities mentioned above paints a clear picture. Opus Dei was made compliant through some targeted measures (withdrawal of the legal status for the Work of God and the episcopal dignity of the Superior General) and massively weakened in Peru by the retirement of Cardinal Cipriani Thorne; the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae was dissolved, and the Instituto del Verbo Encarnado and the Heralds of the Gospel were placed under Apostolic Commissars. The accusations that were taken as the occasion (or pretext?) vary greatly. What these communities have in common, however, is that there are old, open scores to settle and that they stand in the way of the Bergoglian agenda.

Since 2024, the Vatican has prohibited the Sodalitium from holding its planned General Chapter and conducting new elections. Thus, Correa remained in office as Superior General until the canonical dissolution, but was under the constant supervision of the papal commissar, who was somewhat euphemistically called a delegate. Since the appointment of the commissar , no significant decisions could be made in the SCV without Vatican approval.

Summary

In the long shadows of the ecclesiastical directional conflict, the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae was an uncomfortable thorn for many – conservative, loyal to the Pope, committed to doctrine, hierarchical. For the representatives of a progressive theology, not least in the circle of Pope Francis, it was a thorn in their side. The lever for an open dismantling was apparently provided by one of their own: Luis Fernando Figari, founder and charismatic leader. His alleged moral failure ultimately became the target that had been sought for years and, through the election of Francis, could be used against the SCV from above with the full papal authority. Thus, the alleged misconduct of the individual became a triumph of the opposing side over an entire community – not through persuasive power, but through the weakness of the opponent. The conservative side did not fall behind due to a loss of arguments, but due to actual and alleged personal failure.

Bergoglio Leads Controversial Act of Penance

Vatican City (kath.net/KAP/red) In an act of penance in St. Peter's Basilica, in which Vienna Cardinal Christoph Schönborn also took part, top representatives of the Catholic Church, led by Pope Francis, confessed the Church's guilt.  For the first time, they publicly asked God and humanity for forgiveness because of the Catholic Church's failure to deal with cases of sexual abuse by clergy.

The service took place on Tuesday evening in the Vatican Basilica, on the eve of the opening of a four-week world synod for the renewal of the Catholic Church.  Similar to the historic confession of the Church's sins throughout its long history, which took place in 2000, several cardinals read out individual confessions of guilt one after the other.  Each of the seven posts contained the phrase, "I ask for forgiveness and I'm ashamed."

In addition to failing to deal with sexual or spiritual abuse, the cardinals acknowledged guilt on behalf of the Church in, among other things, Christians' involvement in environmental destruction, colonialism and slavery.  The failure of men in the Church to advocate for the dignity of women was mentioned, as was the oppression and exploitation of women religious.  In his text, Cardinal Schönborn addressed the “obstacles to building a truly synodal, common church.”

 “I ask for forgiveness and am ashamed that we have transformed authority into power, that we have stifled plurality, that we have not listened to the people, that we have made it difficult for many brothers and sisters to participate in the mission of the Church,” it said in the pleas for forgiveness presented by Schönborn.  People have forgotten "that we are all called in history to become living stones of the one temple of the Holy Spirit through faith in Christ."  Child Abuse Report Each of the seven guilty pleas was accompanied by a sung invocation of Divine Mercy.

Previously, among others, the German-based singer Laurence Gien, who was abused by a cleric as a minor in his former home of South Africa, reported on the serious psychological damage caused to the victims by the acts and their cover-up.  In further testimonies, an Italian woman reported on the suffering of boat refugees and migrants, and a Syrian religious woman spoke of the horrors of the war in her homeland.  The guilty plea to clerical abuse was made by US Cardinal Sean O'Malley, who headed the Pontifical Child Protection Commission for many years.  Indian Cardinal Oswald Gracias asked for forgiveness for Catholics' past disregard for life and failure to strive for peace.  Curial Cardinal Michael Czerny spoke out about transgressions against creation and shame for colonialism.  Irish-American Curial Cardinal Kevin Farrell's request for forgiveness was aimed, among other things, at disrespecting the dignity of women.  Prefect of the Faith, Cardinal Víctor Fernandez, asked, among other things, forgiveness for offenses against the "unity of the Christian faith and the true fraternity of all humanity."

 Cardinal Cristobal Lopez, archbishop of the Moroccan capital Rabat, read out a request for forgiveness for wrongdoings and omissions towards the poor.  Cardinal Schönborn spoke as the last of the seven cardinals and as a member of the Council of the Synod Secretariat.  "Healing wounds that still bleed" Pope Francis emphasized in his closing address: "We can no longer call on the name of God without first asking forgiveness from our brothers and sisters and the earth and all creatures."  He continued: "We must ask ourselves what responsibility we have if we fail to stop evil with good."

 On the eve of the World Synod, the confession of guilt is "an opportunity to restore the trust in the Church and the trust in the Church that has been broken by our mistakes and sins, and to heal the wounds that still bleed and the bonds of injustice  solve."  The celebration took place in a quiet, concentrated atmosphere in St. Peter's Basilica, which was not completely full.  Pope Francis, wearing a purple stole like the one priests wear when hearing confessions, followed the testimonies with a serious expression and often lowered eyes.  After the women and men's remarks, there was applause from those present in the rear area of ​​St. Peter's Basilica, and some of the bishops and cardinals present also applauded.  The act of penance also marked the end of the two days of retreat for the synod members who are taking part in the World Synod of Bishops on Synodality in the Vatican, which begins on Wednesday.

Fiducia supplicans — Supply Them With Food and Drink For Thought

Edit: some commentators, like Deacon and FatherZ are deeply and justifiably concerned about the aberrosexual activism inherent in this latest Bergogliade of Fiducia supplicans.

My hot take, inspired after thinking about FatherZ’s post, is that a minister asked to perform an Aberroblessing can use this as an opportunity for corrective action. After meeting with the aberrocouple or aberrothrupple (don’t judge!) in the rectory, offer the buggers some Turkish delight and a nice anisette, preferably a decent, refreshing Absinthe or on cold days, a Hot Toddie. Then get down to business and offer them a document to sign, and then quietly explain that the blessing is conditional upon a GOOD confession, stern penance, and a resolution to amend their lives. They should know the seriousness of their crimes, and realize that the wages of sin is death. Then proceed to the blessing, and maybe even an exorcism eventually, if you can get the diocesan exorcist to take stock.

Pope's Supervisor Attacks Him in the Press -- Rabbinical Assembly Attacks Bergoglio -- With Distortions and Fabrications

Italy's Rabbinical Assembly released an attack against Pope Francis last week. It is the most serious crisis between a pope and Judaism in the land of the pope since the Second Vatican Council. Significantly, since then it has always been the Jewish side that has criticized the Catholic Church, never the other way around, whether it was about the beatification process for Pius XII or the lifting of the excommunication for Bishop Richard Williamson or formulations in the Christian Bible or the missionary mandate towards the Jews... But what had happened?


The reason for the latest criticism is the accusation that Pope Francis has put the Israeli hostages of Hamas on a par with Palestinian prisoners in Israel. Innocent people, however, could not be equated with criminals, murderers or terrorists, the rabbis were outraged. The Pope has also accused both sides of terrorism, which is intolerable.


The quality of Jewish criticism has changed from the past. So far, individual gestures of a pontificate have been criticized, but not the person of the Pope. However, the current attack is directed directly against Pope Francis. Therefore, the consequences that are put forward are also categorical:


"We ask ourselves," the rabbis' document reads, "what is the use of decades of Jewish-Christian dialogue, in which friendship and fraternity have been spoken of, when in reality, when attempts are made to exterminate the Jews, instead of receiving signs of closeness and understanding, the answer is diplomatic acrobatics, balancing acts and icy equidistance, which is sure to mean distance, but is not justice".

 

Understanding is required when emotions run high in an open conflict. Nevertheless, the tone is surprising, because the criticism does not come from Israel and not from Jews directly affected there, but from rabbis who live in distant and safe Italy. Or is it about politics? Of course, it's about politics.


The matter is complicated by the fact that the rabbinic criticism is also factually incorrect. What exactly had triggered the outrage?


On 22nd November Pope Francis received 12 family members of Israeli hostages who have been in the hands of Hamas since 7 October. This gesture of closeness was very well received by those affected.

A little later, on the same morning, Francis received another twelve people: ten family members of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, Christians and Muslims, as well as Gabriel Romanelli, the only Catholic priest in Gaza, and a Greek Orthodox priest.


It was this second encounter that outraged the rabbis. In their criticism of Pope Francis, an exclusive claim shines through. The Pope should have received only the Jewish guests. This black-and-white painting, which divides good and evil, may correspond to Old Testament criteria, but not Christian ones. Here we see a striking difference between Christianity and post-Christian Judaism (and also Islam), both of which lack the commandment to love one's neighbour.


Because the rabbis themselves were probably aware that it was difficult to convey their claim to exclusivity, they performed an artifice. In other words, they manipulated the information. They did not directly criticize the fact that Francis also received Palestinians, but were outraged in their message that Francis had received family members of Palestinian prisoners in Israel. This raised the moral question of whether hostages can be equated with prisoners. This gave the criticism a different note. In addition, the media quickly turned the prisoners into murderers, quasi Hamas terrorists.


However, in the Vatican publications on the reception of the Palestinians, there is not a word about "prisoners". Francis received family members of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. There is no mention of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, let alone relatives of prisoners.


In both meetings, which lasted half an hour each, Pope Francis tried to be close to the people in their suffering. In both encounters, women predominated among the guests.


Another aspect of the rabbis' statement stands out. The 1,400 victims of Hamas terror and the Jewish hostages of Hamas are rightly lamented. But there is no mention of the 15,000 Palestinian civilians who have been killed since the beginning of the Israeli counteroffensive. For every Jewish civilian killed by Hamas in the horrific attack on Israel, there are already ten Palestinian civilians killed in Israel's retaliatory strike. Aren't they also human beings and victims of an intolerable massacre? Are non-Jews to be "destroyed like dust in threshing," as it says in the Old Testament Second Book of Kings 13:7? Does an exclusive claim also apply to the victims?


The two-thousand-year-old Christian-Jewish relationship is very extensive and complex and will not be touched upon in detail here. Instead, a little-known document is to be published, the encyclical Auspicia quædam by Pope Pius XII. This pope is the greatest savior of the Jews in history, and yet his reputation has been and is besmirched like that of no other pope in the Christian-Jewish context. Pius XII wrote this encyclical, which he dedicated to Palestine – as he consistently calls the country – a few days before the State of Israel was proclaimed. The Second World War was only a short time ago. Many European cities, especially in Germany, but also in Italy, were ruins. Pius XII enjoyed great prestige, even in the Jewish world, because the KGB campaign against him (with the help of the German playwright Rolf Hochhuth) was not launched until the early 1960s. Note the Pope's choice of words and the criteria he indicates, insisting on justice and charity as a prerequisite for peace and well-being. Note also that the present text shows that encyclicals can be written briefly and in a way that is generally understandable, and even with an abbreviated version (see at the end). Some indications today seem to clearly show that, after so many massacres and devastation caused by the long and terrible war, the entire great international community is passionately oriented toward the sound paths of peace; and that at present we are more willing to listen to those who devote themselves to rebuilding with wearisome work, who seek to appease and settle discord, and who set out to awaken a new order of well-being from the many ruins that surround us, rather than to those who stir up hatred and resentment, from which nothing but new and more serious damage can arise.


But although we ourselves and the Christian people have many reasons for consolation and can encourage us with the hope of better times, there is no lack of facts and events that bring Our paternal soul into great sorrow and sorrow. Although the war has ceased almost everywhere, the longed-for peace has not yet calmed minds and hearts; rather, we can still see the sky darkening with menacing clouds.

For our part, we do not cease to do all that We can to remove from the human family the dangers of other disasters that overwhelm it, and when human means prove inadequate, We appeal to God and at the same time exhort all Our children in Christ, scattered in all the countries of the earth, to ask together with Us for heavenly help.


For this reason, as in previous years, it has been a consolation for us to address Our exhortation to all, especially to the children so beloved by Us, so that in the month of May they may gather in great numbers around the altar of the great Mother of God to implore the end of the devastating war, and so also today with this Letter We urge them to not to interrupt this pious custom and to combine their petitions with resolutions for Christian renewal and works of salutary penance.


First of all, let them sincerely thank the Virgin Mother of God and our most gracious Mother for having achieved with her powerful intercession the longed-for end of the great conflagration of the world and for the many other benefits implored by the Almighty; but at the same time we implore you with renewed prayers that the mutual, fraternal and complete peace among all people, and the desired harmony between all social classes, may finally shine forth as a gift from heaven.


May the discord that benefits no one cease; may the disputes, which are often the germs of new misfortunes, be justly settled; May public and private relations between nations be strengthened and consolidated; may religion, the champion of all virtue, have the freedom it deserves; and may peaceful human work, under the auspices of justice and the divine breath of charity, bear the most abundant fruits for the common good.


You are well aware, Venerable Brethren, that our prayers are especially appreciated by the Blessed Virgin when they are not transient and empty voices, but come from hearts adorned with the necessary virtues. Therefore, strive with your apostolic zeal so that the public prayers raised to heaven in the month of May may correspond to a revival of Christian life. In fact, it is only on this basis that it is justified to hope that the course of things and events in public and private life can be directed into the right order, and that it will be possible for men, with the help of God, to attain not only the well-being possible in this world, but also heavenly happiness. that will never go away.


But there is another special reason at the moment that deeply grieves and torments Our hearts. We are referring to the holy places of Palestine, which have long been haunted by sad events and are devastated almost daily by new massacres and ruins. But if there is one region of the world that must be particularly dear to the heart of every worthy and civilized soul, it is certainly Palestine, from which so much light of truth has emanated for all men since the dark beginnings of history; in which the Incarnate Word of God proclaimed peace to all men of good will through choirs of angels, and in which, finally, Jesus Christ, nailed to the trunk of the Cross, brought salvation to all humanity and spread out His arms, as if to invite all peoples into the fraternal embrace, He sanctified the great commandment of charity with the shedding of His blood.


For this reason, Venerable Brothers, we hope that this year's prayers will have as a special object the intercession of the Blessed Virgin, so that the conditions in Palestine may finally be reconciled in accordance with justice, and that harmony and peace may triumph there too.


We have great confidence in the powerful patronage of our Heavenly Mother; a patronage which, in this month dedicated to her, may be obtained above all by innocent children with a holy prayer crusade. And it will be your task to invite and encourage them to do so with all care; and not only them, but also their fathers and mothers, who must also set an example for them in many ways.


We know well that We have never appealed in vain to the ardent zeal with which you have been inflamed; and We already seem to see great multitudes of children, men and women, crowding into the sacred halls to receive from the great Mother of God all the graces and favors we need.


May she, who Jesus has given us, ensure that all those who have strayed from the right path return to him as soon as possible, moved by healthy repentance; May she work for us, she who is our most gracious Mother and who has always proved to be our valid help and mediator of graces in every danger, so that even in the grave needs in which we find ourselves, a just solution to conflicts may be found, and that a safe and free peace may finally shine forth for the Church and for all nations.


A few years ago, as everyone remembers, when the recent world war was still raging, when We saw that human means were proving insecure and insufficient to extinguish this tremendous conflagration, We addressed our fervent prayers to the Merciful Redeemer, taking advantage of the powerful patronage of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. And just as Our Predecessor of immortal memory, Leo XIII, at the beginning of the twentieth century, consecrated the entire human race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, so We also wish to consecrate it to the Immaculate Heart of the Virgin Mary on behalf of the human family redeemed by Him.

We hope, therefore, that this consecration be carried out both in the dioceses and in the individual parishes and families, when the opportunity arises; and We are confident that from this private and public consecration will accrue abundant benefits and heavenly favors.


In this hope, and as a pledge of Our paternal goodwill, in the outpouring of our hearts, we impart the Apostolic Blessing to each one of you, Venerable Brethren, and to all those who will respond with a willing heart to this exhortation of ours, and especially to the great and numerous multitudes of dear children.

Pope Francis: “Cardinal Burke is an enemy, so I’m taking away his apartment and salary”


Cardinal Raymond Burke, a modest, sharp-witted and steadfast defender of doctrine and discipline, hates Santa Marta.  Pope Francis has been relentlessly pursuing the tradition-friendly American since his election.

(Rome) Pope Francis gathered all the dicastery heads of the Roman Curia a week ago today.  On that occasion, according to Vatican sources, he declared that Cardinal Raymond Burke was his “enemy,” “so I am taking away his apartment and salary.”

Cardinal Burke, highly intelligent and one of the most excellent church lawyers, can look back on a remarkable career - until the election of Pope Francis.  Pope John Paul II entrusted him with the diocese of La Crosse in Wisconsin in 1994, then promoted him to archbishop of Saint Louis in Missouri in 2003.  Pope Benedict XVI  appointed the tradition-friendly canonist to the Roman Curia in 2008 and appointed him Prefect of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signatura.  In 2010 he created him a cardinal.  This made Burke the highest-ranking judge in the Holy Church after the Pope.

 The hostility of Pope Francis

Due to his closeness to tradition and to Benedict XVI.  From March 2013, however, he became the obvious enemy of the new Church leader.  With the election of Francis, Burke immediately lost two of three memberships in Roman congregations, most notably being expelled from the Congregation of Bishops because they wanted to eliminate his influence on the appointment of bishops in the USA.  He was replaced by the progressive Cardinal Donald Wuerl, who then promptly fell in the wake of the McCarrick scandal.  The exchange served to ensure that more homophile McCarrick protégés were placed on bishops' chairs rather than defenders of the faith.

When Cardinal Burke became the spokesman for the defenders of the sacraments of marriage and penance at the first family synod in 2014, Francis' next reaction was not long in coming.  A few days after the conclusion of the synod, he deposed Burke as prefect of the Supreme Signature and removed him from the Roman Curia.

The American was relegated to a purely prestigious position as cardinal patron of the Sovereign Order of Malta until he got in Francis' way there at the end of 2016.  When the Pope deposed the then Grand Master and Prince of the Order of Malta in an arbitrary act, he also deposed Cardinal Burke.  He was only left with an empty official title, while his duties as papal representative to the Order of Malta were transferred to a special legate.  At the same time, the top lawyer's last membership in a Roman congregation, that for worship and the sacraments, was revoked.

The Pope's mockery

In 2021, Francis mocked at a flying press conference that Cardinal Burke was in the intensive care unit with severe pneumonia and was in a struggle between life and death.  Burke had criticized the corona vaccination, especially the exercise of de facto coercion, in which Francis took the most radical approach of all states and threatened all employees of the Vatican and the Holy See with dismissal if they did not undergo the experimental mRNA gene therapy, of which neither effect nor side effects were known.  A central point of criticism from the cardinal was the use of aborted children to produce the Corona preparations.  Francis, on the other hand, mocked journalists: “Even in the College of Cardinals there are some objectors, and one of them, the poor man, is in the hospital with the virus.”

However, Cardinal Burke recovered and returned to his old powers without mRNA gene therapy.  But Francis, the Corona radical on the papal throne and among the heads of state who closed St. Peter's Basilica for months, had shown his face by expressing mockery and gloating about the possible death of Cardinal Burke instead of finding words of compassion and sympathy  .

In 2023, upon reaching the age of 75, Burke submitted his resignation as Cardinal Patron of the Order of Malta and immediately lost this last, albeit empty, title.  He was replaced by the Bergoglian Gianfranco Cardinal Ghirlanda.  Ghirlanda was promptly given back all the responsibilities that had been withheld from Burke for years.  The absurdity of Bergoglian personnel policy has rarely been more evident than at this moment: the 75-year-old Burke was dismissed for reasons of age in order to appoint the 81-year-old Ghirlanda as his successor.

Now it has become known that at the meeting of all dicastery leaders on November 20th, Pope Francis denounced Cardinal Burke and said:

 “Cardinal Burke is one of my enemies, so I’m taking away his apartment and salary.”

Cardinal Burke is currently in the USA.  No formal communication of sanctions from the Holy See has yet reached him.  The way in which this year already happened with Archbishop Georg Gänswein, the former personal secretary of Benedict XVI.  and Prefect of the Apostolic House, leaves little doubt that Francis is also serious about the retaliatory and punitive action against Cardinal Burke.

 Little respect for canon law

Since Francis cares little about canon law and insists all the more on his papal power, it is not to be expected that there will be any legal objections to such an action, which can hardly be justified, or that it could even prevent it.  The recent dismissals or de facto dismissals of faithful bishops speak volumes about Francis' understanding of the law.

Cardinal Burke’s “enmity” appears to have become a fixation for Francis.  The statement: “Cardinal Burke is one of my enemies” should be understood to mean that Francis is hostile to Burke.  Burke repeatedly and strongly rejected the label of “enemy of the Pope.”

A few days ago, Francis gave the German bishops a shot across the bow, but the homophile modernists in the German bishoprics are not his problem as long as they do not want to rise above him.  But Cardinal Burke seems to embody everything that Francis despises, despising so much that he wants to eradicate it - and that doesn't mean Bergoglio's deep-seated anti-gringo mentality.

Unwavering, intelligent and coherent

Cardinal Burke defends tradition, he is steadfast, intelligent and coherent.  It is this combination that makes him so threatening to Francis.  Cardinal Burke is the mirror held up to Francis;  he embodies what a pope should be.

In addition, for Francis, Burke represents and contacts with the “religious right” in the USA, a diction that Francis adopted from left-wing sociologists and introduced into Church discourse.  This “religious right” is being fought by Francis, which is why his attempts to contact US evangelicals quickly came to nothing.  This ended in early 2016 with Donald Trump's candidacy at the latest.  Francis sees the traditional and conservative Catholic Americans as the greatest organized resistance that could stand in the way of his corrosive restructuring of the church in line with the globalist UN agenda.  And Cardinal Burke is their arm in the church, according to the Pope's idea.

The fact is that on October 3, 2023, at a meeting in Rome on the eve of the Synodality Synod, Cardinal Burke subjected the first statements and actions of the new Prefect of the Faith, Victor Manuel Fernández, known as “Tucho”, to a devastating criticism after - hard to believe - Cardinal Burke  insulted as a heretic and schismatic.  Tucho Fernández, whom the Bergoglian Sr. Lucia Caram happily described on Spanish television as a “homosexual,” is Pope Francis’ foster son.  Any criticism of him is taboo and will not be forgiven.

Above all, Cardinal Burke repeatedly urged Francis to fulfill his duties and responsibilities as pope.

Cardinal Burke repeatedly stood in Francis's way by signing and also playing a key role in drafting several of the most important documents criticizing Francis' pontificate.  These include the first dubia [doubts] about the controversial post-synodal exhortation Amoris laetitia and the second dubia, which raise fundamental questions and demand clarification of how Francis views the revealed truth and the dogmas of the faith.

 Deprive people of their livelihoods

Since Francis can no longer take office from his opponent Burke, since the American has already had all his offices taken away, he wants to take a punitive action that is unprecedented in Church history and deprive the cardinal of the roof over his head and his salary.  Apparently, even the most elementary principles that Francis otherwise preaches, namely that housing and food are among the basic rights of everyone, do not apply to traditionalists like Cardinal Burke.  Nobody excepted.  Except…

The most recent announcement suggests that Francis would prefer to remove cardinals like Burke, i.e. the few remaining members of the College of Cardinals who oppose the Bergoglian Revolution and were not appointed by Francis, from the Church Senate.

 In conclusion, we agree with the succinct assessment of Riccardo Cascioli, editor-in-chief of Nuova Bussola Quotidiana:

 “The fact is that the end of this pontificate is increasingly resembling a South American dictatorship in its methods.”

Archbishop Georg Gänswein is Seeking Employment in Freiburg




Archbishop Georg Gänswein has offered to help out in the Archdiocese of Freiburg where he is needed.  "I'm here now, I'm looking for a job, so to speak," said the Archbishop, according to the German Press Agency (dpa) on Thursday evening at a book launch in Kirchzarten.  In conversation with the publisher Manuel Herder, the word "job center" was also mentioned.

Gänswein has been living in his home Archdiocese of Freiburg since the beginning of July.  After the death of Benedict XVI, Pope Francis  decrees that the 66-year-old former private secretary of Benedict returns to his home diocese.  The Archdiocese of Freiburg announced in July after a meeting between Freiburg's chief shepherd, Stephan Burger, and Gänswein that the former papal secretary would lead services in Freiburg's cathedral from the fall.  However, he did not get another, permanent job in the Archdiocese.

Gänswein comes from the Black Forest and worked for Pope Benedict XVI for many years.  Since 2013 he has also been Prefect of the Papal Household under Francis.  Francis gave Gänswein leave of absence in 2020. Most recently, Gänswein's book "Nothing but the Truth" made international headlines and discussions because it contains details of the lines of conflict between Pope Francis and his predecessor.  (ben)

FSSP’s Mission Will Not Be Affected by Traditiones Custodes


The traditional Holy Mass that unites the saints and believers of all times in Church history.

Rumors have been circulating for weeks about an Apostolic Constitution with which Pope Francis wants to finally put an end to the Immemorial Mass.  A rescriptum for the execution of Traditionis Custodes, published on February 21, could be a precursor to this.

In an interview with the Catholic online portal Aleteia, the French district superior of the Fraternity of St. Peter, Abbé Benoît Paul-Joseph, recalls that this document does not contain anything significantly new, but rather specifies the general guidelines from Traditionis Custodes regarding the permission to celebrate according to the Missal of 1962  for priests ordained according to Traditionis Custodes and regarding the use of parish churches for the celebration of the traditional liturgy and the establishment of personal parishes.

However, the local bishops are now, without exception, referred to the sole responsibility of the Dicastery for Worship and the Order of the Sacramenta.  Special permits that have already been granted must subsequently be checked by the Holy See.

Nothing will change for the FSSP, emphasizes the French district superior, since on February 11, 2022 the Pope gave it a confirmation of its liturgical autonomy, according to which all of its priests have the power to:

 “to celebrate the Sacrifice of the Mass, administer the Sacraments and other holy rites, and perform the Office according to the respective Editio typica of the liturgical books in force in 1962, i.  H.  the Missal, the Rituale, the Pontificale and the Breviary. 
They may exercise this power in their own churches and oratories;  in other places, however, only with the consent of the local ordinary, except for the private celebration of Mass”.

Abbé Benoît Paul-Joseph underlines that the Pope's concession is also due to the "fidelity of our founders to the Pope at the moment of the consecration of four bishops by Monsignor Lefebvre without papal permission.” Pope Francis has expressly emphasized that this behavior must be "honoured, protected and encouraged.”  Abbé Benoît also sees all other ex-Ecclesia Dei communities addressed here.

However, the papal confirmation also states:

 “Nevertheless, the Holy Father recommends that the provisions of the motu proprio Traditionis Custodes also be taken into account as far as possible.”

How easily a “recommendation” can become an obligation!  The rumors about a final document for the complete destruction of the Immemorial Mass by the rescript are not yet confirmed.  There is still no ban on priestly ordination in the traditional Rite, and the confirmation of liturgical proper law still applies in particular to the Society of St. Peter.

But a possible ban on priestly ordinations is looming ominously on the horizon and would correspond to the Pope's previous approach of ruling with the stick and a little carrot until the latter is completely abolished.

The injuries that he has already inflicted on tradition-bound believers who, loyal to the pope and the teaching office, adhere to the traditional liturgy and want to partake of its fullness of grace are serious.  Francis does not let his cards be looked at and acts in a ruthlessly autocratic manner, precisely in his dogged ideological struggle against tradition and the traditional Mass.

The declared goal remains the elimination of the traditional Latin mass.  It is only a matter of time for Pope Francis.  And he sees himself as the master of this time.  Despite all the relief that the worst has not yet happened, one should not hide one thing: the TC or the accompanying letter to the bishops announced the gradual re-education of the faithful “who are rooted in the previous form of celebration and need time  , to return to the Roman Rite as taught by Saints Paul VI.  and John Paul II was promulgated”.

 In France in particular, we have followed how a number of bishops have taken the first steps after TC in their dioceses with bans and "re-education decrees" and have proven their loyalty to the line.

 Building trust looks different.

Ultimately, this also applies to other areas.  Thus, even the clear papal admonitions and warnings in the direction of German-synodal detours cannot provide lasting reassurance as long as schismatic acts continue to be pushed ahead, above all by Bishop Bätzing, without Rome following up the warning words with deeds and appropriate sanctions.  If one does not want to interpret such an incongruous behavior as a "weakness in leadership", the only remaining assumption is that openness is a tactic to achieve one's own goals, which may play a role in the world synod on synodality.

 Quite apart from that, one can certainly ask oneself the question of whether the stubborn German bishops in Rome could not at some point be used as compliant and then very Rome-loyal vicarious agents in undermining tradition.  Despite the calm in this country so far, where the energies are still tied up by the so-called synodal path, one must not forget that, with Bätzing and companions, a large part of the German episcopate is undeterred and concerned with a fundamental change in faith and teaching and with it  may not necessarily be well-disposed towards the old fair.  Because in the context of the tradition, no Maria 2.0 supporters thrive, whether they be priests or lay people, from "*inside", God* and so-called rainbow flags that are deficient in color, one is spared, teaching authority and tradition apply, the catechism is the guideline for a Catholic way of life  and no one wants a ratty sexual morality, as practiced in the world ruled by an unholy "spirit of the times".

 Lots of questions, lots of worries.  Perhaps it is good that Abbé Benoît is now advising Paul-Joseph to take advantage of the rich graces of Lent to take a salutary distance from all these disturbances in the presence of the Lord and to find spiritual nourishment in the texts of the traditional Latin liturgy  find that the attachment to the old liturgy has nothing ideological about it.  It is about living from the spiritual riches of this liturgy.  Especially during Lent she offers a powerful help.

 Let us follow the calls to prayer and fasting in this way:

 "We call on all Catholics of good will to pray and do penance this Lent for the resolution of this question and the freedom of the ancient Latin Mass."

The Great Papal Interview: "Benedict XVI Was a Slave"

(Rome) Interviews by popes are only given very rarely. Under Pope Francis, this has changed. He uses the interview as a main means of communication. Aberrosexual Priests “don’t want to hide anymore”

50 priests in Italy who describe themselves as homosexual have come forward to denounce the Church's "internal homophobia".  They announced in a document that they "no longer wanted to hide".  This marks the beginning of the next stage in the attempt to influence outsiders with allies in the Church.  It is daily newspapers in the orbit of George Soros' media cartel that threw the stone in the water.  The left-leaning Italian daily Domani took the first step, which was followed yesterday by the equally left-leaning Spanish publication Público – on the second Sunday in Advent.

Homosexuality is an outrageous sin, which is why it automatically entails excommunication as a punishment, leading to self-exclusion from the Church community because the state of grace that is essential for communion, community with Christ, is lost.  So there is hardly a greater contradiction than a homosexual priest.  Pope Benedict XVI  therefore insisted that candidates with a homosexual problem should not even be accepted into a seminary.  It is also a reason for impediment to consecration.  This guideline for the seminaries was also confirmed by Pope Francis.  So the question is of very serious concern, regardless of whether an over-sexualized world is aware of it.

Choosing a Sunday in Advent, the time of preparation for the Solemnity of the Coming of the Lord, for publication is a significant expression of a desacralizing intention.  The media mentioned form the amplifier to accuse the Church of “deep-seated homophobia” and to pillory it.

In fact, it is the Christian message that opposes homosexuality in history.  It was Christianity that defeated homosexuality, widespread in antiquity and among pagan peoples.  The return of homosexuality is no accident, but a direct expression of the decline in faith and a return of paganism.  The "enlightened" opinion that Christianity can be eliminated because it can also be done without religion has proven to be a devastating fallacy over the past 250 years.  Where Christianity wanes, substitute religions take its place, and “progress” toward a relapse into dark paganism begins.

A movement of "homosexual priests" is therefore an insoluble contradiction.  This applies all the more as it wants to establish a sinful state.  A suggestion that can be described as perverse in the true sense of the word.

The document began in a course for "pastoral workers" in Bologna, a center of modernism.  This initially raises doubts as to whether all the signatories are priests.  The document has since been circulated at the events taking place as part of the “synodal process” for the Synod of Bishops on synodality desired by Pope Francis.  This shows what critics have said in other contexts, that Francis initiates initiatives that lead to structural usurpation in order to force a paradigm shift on the Church that removes it from doctrine and order.

The Italian initiative finds its actual starting point in the homo initiatives of some clerics and bishops in the German-speaking area, especially the German Bishops' Conference.  What had been started at the Second Vatican Council - that the Church should heal from its German character - finds its continuation in a new eruption.  And yet the Church was hit hard once before, half a millennium ago.

The homosexual priests present themselves as victims.  Victims of silence and oppression as they are unable to speak about their "homosexual orientation" either with their families or in the Church.  But is that true?  They could do it: honestly, they should have done it before they entered the seminary, but at the latest before they were ordained a priest.  It's still possible now, but that requires honesty.  What credibility can a priest entangled in a lifelong lie claim?  Doesn't that have to influence his whole work?  A one-off, uncontrolled impulse must be cleaned up through repentance in the absolution in the sacrament of penance.  There are well-known examples of this, as is the case with other serious sins.  God is merciful and the Church has always passed on this mercy.  A "deep-seated" problem of sexual identity disorder also calls for more in-depth treatment of the problem from a qualified source.  The signatories of the document themselves complain that their psyche has been hurt, but they claim that this is due to the Church’s "homophobia".  At the same time, they do not see the injuries they inflict on their office, the sacraments, the Church as a whole and, above all, on their salvation and that of others.

The homosexual priests demand "immediate recognition" and claim that their homosexual passions are willed by God, since "that is how" God created them.  In addition, there is no study in Italy of the kind carried out by the French Bishops' Conference in 2021, which found that nine percent of priests were "depressed" and eight percent were alcohol dependent.  The investigation was launched after seven priests committed suicide over a four-year period.  However, this is a far-reaching, complex subject area with many aspects, not least of which is that the image of the priest and the understanding of the priesthood eroded in the Church itself after Vatican II.

Domani also quotes psychiatrist Raffaele Lavazzo, who reported in the progressive Dehonian journal Il Regno that, in the past, latent homosexual tendencies sometimes came to light in priestly patients after several sessions, whereas today such priests would speak openly about it, “like someone who  has taken the rudder of his own boat and steers it safely, at least to appearances".

In the "synodal path," according to Domani, homosexual priests see an opportunity to turn things around.  In the spirit of the homosexualized zeitgeist, priests who have been dishonest with themselves, but above all with the church and want to live out their homosexuality, see the unique opportunity to have their unbridled impulses recognized.  For this the Church should change its revealed teaching and tradition.

 But how seriously do these priests take their vocation and ordination?  A homosexual priest offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is an intrinsic contradiction, as would a woman at the altar.  The complementary order of the sexes is reflected in the Holy Mass.  Jesus Christ was male, the Scriptures speak of the spotless yearling male lamb, also of the ram sacrificed by Abraham in place of Isaac, and of the firstborn.  The male priest is the head of the Church on behalf of Christ, just as Christ is the head of the Church.  In the divine and natural order of the sexes, the Church is feminine.  Man and woman form a real unity and only they do that, since they become "one".  This is expressed in the Holy Mass by the priest at the altar and the faithful in the nave.  It reflects the marital bond between a man and a woman in a figurative sense.  A Protestant pastor once said: "The Catholic pastor is married to his congregation, but then I prefer to be married to my wife." He had said something important about the priesthood without understanding it himself.  Conversely, a woman at the altar would therefore be an expression of homosexuality, which is sterile, the same applies to a priest with homosexual passion.  Fundamental aspects of the ordination and altar sacraments are thus touched upon, and even more so, they are called into question by homosexuality.

Pope to Consecrate Russia and Ukraine to Immaculate Heart of Mary

VATICAN CITY (LifeSiteNews) — Pope Francis will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the Vatican announced on Tuesday, following an appeal made by the Ukrainian Catholic bishops.

In an announcement released March 15, Matteo Bruni, the director of the Holy See Press Office announced:

On Friday 25 March, during the Celebration of Penance at which he will preside at 17.00 in Saint Peter’s Basilica, Pope Francis will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The same act, on the same day, will be carried out in Fatima by His Eminence Cardinal Krajewski, Apostolic Almoner, as envoy of the Holy Father.

March 25 is the feast of the Annunciation. No further details were provided about the consecration, but the message was repeated on the Pope’s official Twitter account. LifeSiteNews has contacted the Holy See Press Office for further information.
