Different Land, Different Bishops -- Poland's Bishops Demand Abolition of Abortion

(Warsaw) The Polish bishops are demanding, together with the pro-life movement, a complete protection of life and a total ban on abortion.

Currently, the killing of unborn children is allowed in exceptional cases, such as rape, until the 12th week of pregnancy, in cases of severe malformation of the fetus and when the mother is in danger of death. The current law dates back to 1993 and ended the communist regime introduced, "freedom" for the killing of unborn children. Even during the communist dictatorship, Poland had the most restrictive abortion law under the socialist republics of the Soviet bloc. In 1956, the killing of unborn children was legalized. The highest abortion rates were, according to statistics in the 1960s. The Soviet Union in 1920 was the first country in the world,  allowing the killing of unborn children under the law.

After the presidential and parliamentary elections of last year, which brought a change of government, the right to life organizations have now  presented a bill that has the support of the new national conservative PiS government confirmed by Prime Minister Beata Szydlo and the PiS leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski.  

"You can not stop at the compromise of 1993"

"When it comes to protecting the lives of unborn children, you can not stop at the compromise of 1993," said the Polish Episcopal Conference.  A joint pastoral letter of the bishops was read yesterday, on White Sunday (Mercy Sunday),  in all parishes of the country. The bishops have called on the faithful to support the fight against the evil of abortion and advocate for comprehensive protection of unborn life. The protection of the lives of the  defenseless, innocent children must have validity in Poland.  It tells a lot about a nation how they treat  their unborn children.

The new bill provides that the killing of the unborn child should be possible only in mortal danger of the mother. Whoever performs at an illegal abortion or supports it will  be punished in future by five years in prison. At present, two years are provided, which thus can be suspended on probation.

According to the Ministry of Health legal abortions under the liberal economic previous government have almost quadrupled to 1,812 cases in 2014. Feminist organizations, however,  talk of 200,000 abortions a year, if you were to consider the women who go for abortion abroad. Evidence of these horrendous figures are however not presented. Since the early 1970s, there is a  proven standard of the abortion lobby  to assert completely excessive illegal abortion numbers to allow for  the "necessity" of a legal regulation, i.e. to justify the legalization of killing unborn children. Neutral observers currently  count 7,000-10,000 illegal abortions.

International institutions try to put Poland under pressure

Feminist and pro-abortion organizations agitate for the legalization of infanticide. The feminist group Feminoteka demonstrated with unscrupulous slogans for a "right" to kill unborn children, "My body belongs to me", "Abortion is sacred" and "Vade retro Pro Vita".

International institutions such as the EU and UN are exerting pressure on Poland to legalize infanticide. In November 2015, there came the perverse paradox that the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, who were responsible for compliance with the UN Children's Convention in 1989 of Poland on behalf of the Children's Rights, demanded the legalization of abortion.

Polish Bishops' Conference Rejects Communion for Divorced and Remarried

Polish bishops warn that the praxis of annulment could lead to a divorce mentality.

Warsaw (kath.net) Holy Communion can not be  given to divorced and remarried Catholics, "this is the unchangeable teaching of the Catholic Church". Because "what God has joined together, let no man separate, teaches Christ (Mk 10.9)". This is what the Polish Catholic Bishops' Conference said in a press statement. "Marriage is a divine as well as both human reality that has been raised by Christ to the dignity of a sacrament." This is a matter of extreme importance because it concerns  Catholic doctrine.

Catholics should be concerned that Catholic annulment praxis could lead to the "divorce mentality."

The bishops cited Pope Francis who had explained in the Angelus on 8/16/2015, the Eucharist "is not a private prayer or a beautiful spiritual experience, it is not a simple reminder of what Jesus did at the Last Supper". To be fed the living bread means rather, to enter into harmony with the heart of Christ, to accept his decisions, his thoughts, his behavior,  kath.net reports.

In the survey before the Synod of Bishops, many Polish Catholics had emphasized the value of family. The Polish bishops expressly thanked "God for the fact that there are many healthy families in our country who show 'in good and bad days'  fidelity to their vocation."

At the same time the Polish bishops have recalled that those whose families who are broken have need of pastoral care. Moreover,  the bishops warned against infertility through artificial insemination that is not allowed Catholics  and that stillborn children have the "full right to a  Catholic funeral".

In their text, the Polish bishops did not address  homosexuality and gender issues, which they had already taken a stand on several occasions according to the Catholic doctrine on this point.

Pope Francis Passes Notes to Cardinal Baldisseri

(Rome) What is on the piece of paper written by Pope Francis  handed to the Secretary of the Synod, Cardinal Baldisseri in the Synod Hall?

The Pope, who participates in the General Congregations, but doesn't speak, reaches again and again for a fountain pen and writes something on scraps of paper, which he then can deliver to Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri. "This is not a possible wish, but I would not pay just a  little to know what is written on the piece of paper which Pope Francis wrote  and  sent to the Secretary General of the Synod," said the Vatican expert Marco Tosatti.

The cardinal read the slips of paper   supplied, wrote something under it and sent it back to the Pope, who stuck it in his pocket. So Tosatti describes the flow of messages list, the number of times since the beginning of the Synod repeated every day. The exchange could not be hidden from the  attentive synod participants. Especially not during the remarks given by Cardinal Burke and Müller, as an attack on marriage teaching of the Church was in the air.

The series of messages convey the impression that the Pope is giving instructions to the Synod Secretary. Who, when the instructions can or should address? It is known that Pope Francis has placed people loyal to him at all strategic positions of the Bishops' Synod. This includes Cardinal Baldisseri as Archbishop Forte to name just two.

Among the Synod Participants Themselves,  Resentment is Spreading - Interim Report "Unacceptable"

Since the beginning of this week, the Synod no longer convenes in Assembly, but separated according to language groups. Among the synod fathers discontent is spreading. First,  every day it is more apparent that what the media reports, does not correspond to what actually happens in the Synod and a direction that is favored by Cardinal Kasper. Then there came the interim report of Cardinal Peter Erdo, in which many members of the synod do not recognize.

41 synod participants came forward to speak after the announcement of the Interim report in the Synod Hall, including  Cardinals Pell, Ouellet, Müller, Caffarra, Scola, Dolan, Filoni, Vingt-Trois, Burke, Rylko and all spoke out against Kasper's proposal, who also spoke. They criticized the ambiguity of the entire report and the homophilic statements, had   called for a clear statement of the truth about marriage and the family, a clear statement against abortion and against artificial insemination.

Cardinal Erdo, Himself Amazed,  Points to "Homo" Passage by Archbishop Forte

The interim report has been signed by Erdo, the Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, but was written by others. These "others", were officials hand-picked by Pope Francis. Erdo was apparently astonished, and he told the press conference that the text part did not come from him and pointed to Archbishop Bruno Forte as the author of the controversial passage about homosexuality.

In the discussions the Synod Fathers are talking about two different synods: One is the actual Synod and then a desired one, a manipulated Synod. Cardinal Müller already hinted last week that manipulation is in play. Cardinal Burke has said it now openly. Archbishop Gadecki, the chairman of the Polish Bishops' Conference unmistakably expressed his displeasure. For this purpose, he used the Polish section of Radio Vatican, the only one open to him, as the President of the Polish Bishops, which could not be closed, however,  as has been happening with the other language groups. The interim report was "unacceptable for many bishops unacceptable," he said, as he brought his opinion to the point.
