I had never heard an explanation for why the 1917 Code of Canon Law excluded illegitimate men from the hierarchy but this makes sense. Also, when one considers the number of bastards who have been made bishops in the past 41 years, I hope they bring back the exclusion.
This podcast is excellent. There is indeed a crisis of faith and a crisis of purity in the priesthood and in the hierarchy of the Church. I think that one key solution is for holy priests to more vehemently encourage their parishioners to make comprehensive 'good confessions' so as to receive the blessed sacrament worthily, to build up their faith through regular prayer, fasting and almsgiving, and by so doing to lose their attachment to sin. I think a lot of the homosexuality problem in the Church and in society more generally comes from sins of impurity (pornography is a leading cause, along with dis-functional families, and childhood trauma). Sins of impurity are often never confessed, darken the intellect, and then metastasize into more serious impurity and perversions. Once these sins are properly and systematically confessed and atoned for, these sins (and the demons that control them), lose their power over the sinner who becomes 'whole' again and may be reconciled with God and the Holy Catholic Church.
Wow! These are really angry Catholics.
ReplyDeleteBut, they’re right on one thing: Bishops, especially retired ones, live like royalty
Didn’t Stephen Brady sort of disappear after he got sued by that kook Craig Harrison?
