ROME (ChurchMilitant.com) - A cathedral congregation is expressing bewilderment after the bishop announced he was omitting the Nicene Creed so as not to offend non-Catholics present.
After preaching his homily on the Feast of the Epiphany, Bp. Derio Olivero of the diocese of Pinerolo made the announcement about the omission.
"Since there are also non-believers, everyone will say it silently," Olivero told his flock at the Cathedral of St. Donatus in Pinerolo, a town in Piedmont, near Turin. "Those who believe can say it, and those who don't believe or have other beliefs will silently contemplate the reasons for their beliefs."
In the Eastern Byzantine Mass, just before the Creed, the priest says:
ReplyDelete"THE DOORS!THE DOORS IN Wisdom be attentive:"
This part of the Mass was in more ancient times a notice that all those unbaptized or unworthy or not sharing the same Faith, were required to leave after hearing the Readings and Gospel and not stay present for the Consecration and Communion. Sounds like the best thing is to go back to that custom. Then the priest would shoo away the flies from the Holy Chalice containing the yet unconsecrated wine with the Holy Veil covering the Chalice while the Creed is said.
My told me that they still did this in the Latin world when she was first married.
DeleteThank you Constantine.
DeleteOne erratum: It's the Divine Liturgy, NOT the Mass.
Otherwise, great post.

I formerly attended a parish where the pastor would never use "Lamb of God" as part of the Agnus Dei. He would just say "Bread of Life" or some other substitute phrase.
ReplyDeleteThis guy should not being saying the Nicene Creed.
ReplyDeleteHe does not believe it.
In some of the Pacific Islands where sheep are not native nor would they survive if introduced, the "Lamb of God" invocation sounds ridiculous to the point of being meaningless. The substitute is a valued animal that is native, the pig, therefore....sound, inculturation applies to liturgical symbols and symbolic language in those parts.
ReplyDeletePW. Well I guess that is interesting but the Pastor was a native Californian. So... no pigs were mentioned either....
ReplyDeleteThe bishop sounds like a pig.
DeleteInculturation is a joke in this case, for your indigenous Pacific Islanders, "PM". Lamb is understood as the sacrificial animal of the ancient Jews, which we are spiritual descendants of. The Greeks and Romans also understood the value of pigs. But understood the Semitic contempt for pigmeat. God did not allow pigs to be offered in Leviticus. Neither should we. If one does not understand the significance of a lamb, you have not read scriptures, and don't even know what is a book, or a good teacher. The Church has always tried to elevate primitives to the level of civilization to know, love and serve God properly.
ReplyDeleteConstantine, if you have a copy of the New Testament, you might take a look at the revelation that God served up to Peter in the pagan city of Caesarea Acts 10, particularly 10: 9-16. It was a great day for pigs.
ReplyDeleteI have read your verses in Acts, but there is nothing there that states Liturgy must conform to pagan or gentile conceptions of what is or is not a pagan animal. In these verses, what is a matter is to eatting of all animals being permitted. God did not Mandate rewriting the Old Law and Leviticus.A pig or a lamb still remain the same metphors. Text and metaphors do not get watered down or rewritten. Savages get educated, as they have done throughout centuries and they learn to understand the deeper meaning. Education does not get watered down, it needs to encourage to uplift their intellect to God.
DeleteThe Bible also says the effeminate will not inherit the kingdom of heaven.
ReplyDelete'Savages get educated...'
ReplyDeleteWell, it hasn't worked with your tribe old chap.
Tbe Church needs to try to raise these savages to a higher civilization before it can even give up. It has not tried yet. The priests either are too lazy or corrupt teaching them "self-impowerment" or liberation without God and a well-developed sense of civilization. Because the post Vatican II Church hierarchy is today run by barbarians, who worship self-rule, and believe fighting our passions is oppressive.
ReplyDeleteGaybrielle’s world is circumscribed by a lack of virtue and faith. It’s so alien to him, that modern scripture scholars have tried to make him understand the real message of Scripture by replacing virtues like love, patience, kindness and such with their opposites, like indifference and indifferentism. 😂
ReplyDeletePW snorts like a pig.
ReplyDeleteThe initial story was concocted by an disinformation organization banned from using the title 'Catholic' and run by a self confessed sodomite, M. Voris.
ReplyDeleteFlimsy credential, chaps.
A "self confessed sodomite" is an oxymoron. Once a sodomite confesses, he stops being a sodomite. He may have an orientation. Perhaps may suffer a relapse. But this temptation is alleviated, and possibly eventually overcome by the proper use of the Saving Grace of the Sacrament of Communion. Do you have any proof that Mr. Voris is not sincere? If not "Peter Watson", you are baring false witness against your neighbor and His God. A person who merely calls another "raca",(aka stupid), as explained in Matthew 5:22 will have to answer for it to Our Father in Heaven.
DeleteThis phony Catholic bishop is imitating Francis.
ReplyDeleteNot to be off topic, but big news just today, and just about four hours ago. Apparently, Pope Benedict XVI finally got a little bit of courage, and in the form of a book, basically condemned the idea of married priests as put forward by some radical liberal heretic bishops during the so called "Amazon Synod", and accepted for consideration by the equally heretical Pope Francis. So far it's allover the media. The liberal Catholic sites are in a panic, and the liberal secular news is covering it as like it's another Vatican scandal.
The rad liberal Villanova Prof. and Pope Francis cheerleader Massimo Faggioli as usual came out and condemned Pope Benedict, saying that Benedict (and Cardinal Sarah) defense of priestly celibacy at the very moment heretic Francis is considering otherwise is a "grievous breach", and could ruin the Francis initiative and the rest of his papacy. Faggioli and others are whining that Benedict "promised to be quite and to offer his complete and utter obedience to his successor" That's B.S. folks.
Finally Benedict did a courageous thing and countered the evil around him. Hope he speaks up more and counters Francis more. As one commentator wrote, this might be enough to cause Francis to " give up and resign"
Let's pray for it.

Does Gaybrielle really fault Voris for having an issue with having been a sinner? He can’t address Voris’ point that a Catholic Bishop is so publicly reflecting the Catholic Faith, so he uses the only tool remaining to a scoundrel of his rank rank, he attacks the man himself.
ReplyDeleteIn an age of men, the clergy and laymen in the Church, at this announcement, would have promptly seized the person of the Bishop and thrown him out of the Church....
ReplyDeleteThe parasite NewAmChurch bishops, their Euroboyfriends, and the Campy Caudillo have no integrity, otherwise they would have never taken adverse possession of the physical and legal Church. they want to suck the Church dry, and they won't be happy until every last Baltimore Catechism is located and torched, and every cloistered Priest and religious booted into the street.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I have not been following the news the last couple of weeks. Has the Caudillo of Camp slapped any women in the past couple of weeks?
