Evil Bishop of Motherwell to Close Down Carfin Grotto Centre

Almost 5000 people have signed a petition to save a visitor centre at a key Scottish Catholic shrine.
The Diocese of Motherwell announced last week that it plans to close the Pilgrimage Centre at Carfin Grotto, North Lanarkshire - Scotland’s national shrine to Our Lady of Lourdes.
The diocese claims it is no longer “economically viable” to continue operating the site, which hosts a gift shop and cafe.
However, many have expressed their sadness at the decision and an online petition to stop the closure has attracted thousands of signatures and messages of support for the centre and its staff.

For goodness sake. Get your facts straight. It is not the Grotto which is closing. Just the shop/tearoom.

It's the gay, baby slaying Modernists of course.

If one goes to the website, the announcement by the diocese states that it is the entire site opened in 1922 which will close. There is a petition signed by 5000. However, the diocese says that it is now too late and people should have given money when it was needed. The announcement goes on to say that this is for the entire site which includes "the gift shop".

Tea Room? I can’t imagine Scottish Catholics would care
much if they closed that.

Carfin Grotto is not closing. How hard is that to understand?

Apparently, there’s a distinction between the Pilgrimage Center and the Grotto itself, just as it would be difficult to make the distinction between Lourdes and the facilities around it. Of course, Catholicism appears to have gone on a permanent holiday when you take into account the new additions and renovations at Lourdes. You might not want them associated at all!

I think labelling the Bishop of Motherwell as "evil" for shutting down a teashop selling tacky statues is a bit harsh. Abortion, knife-crime, paedophilia, drug peddling etc. are evil.

Where’s the lie tho?

JBQ@9.40. I do not need to go to the website, the Grotto is local to me. It is not closing. Just THE BUILDING that houses the Pilgrimage center is closing. Not the entire site. Perhaps this will sink in now.

@Anonymous: The Glascow Times of August 12, 2019 states in an article by Victoria Wheldon that the Diocese of Motherwell has announced their intention of shutting down the Shrine and "tea room". It states that the diocese attempted to run the site as a limited company with its own board of directors. The spokesman stated that the attempt failed and that it was economically unfeasible to keep it open.--- The article goes on to say that a petition with 5000 names has been submitted to keep it open. The spokesman states that these people should have spent money at the site to keep it open.

JBQ. Then it is factually incorrect. Hardly a first for a newspaper. You have heard of ‘fake news’?

Dumbarton Democrat, Aug 11, Bill Heaney: "Anger in the Pews at Carfin close threat". re: Bishop Toal.

The people of Motherwell have a lot to be angry with their ordinary for, if they’re Catholic that is.
