Fake News: false report of the death of Benedict XVI
(Rome) Fake news is a reality, even though it may be rarer where it claims to be the mainstream. A recent hoax concerning Benedict XVI. is profoundly tasteless.
It all started with a message posted yesterday on Twitter. The account is #CardRGomez and was therefore attributed to Cardinal Ruben Salazar Gomez, archbishop of Bogota in Colombia.
Fake News
The message was:
"URGENT. From Rome came the news of the death of the emeritus Pope, His Holiness Benedict XVI. "
Shortly thereafter another tweet followed from the same account:
"Cardinal Pietro Parolin just confirmed to me by phone the news of the death of His Holiness Benedict XVI. An official statement from the Vatican will be published in the next few minutes. "
Cardinal Ruben Salazar Gomez was immediately contacted by a radio station and denied this, in complete surprised. He had neither received such a message from Rome nor published the mentioned message on Twitter.
Just over an hour after the first Twitter message, a third message was posted on the same fake account:
"False message from the Italian journalist Tommaso Debenedetti".
Correction by the Archdiocese of Bogota
The archdiocese of Bogota issued a press release, clarifying that Cardinal Ruben Salazar Gomez had nothing to do with the Twitter messages or received any reports from Rome of the type published there. The cardinal had deleted his Twitter account months ago and personally does not use this medium for communication at all.
"The message attributed to Cardinal Salazar is therefore wrong. It has no credibility. The Archdiocese of Bogota has taken steps to erase the Twitter account, which inappropriately misuses the name of the Cardinal, as soon as possible. "
Tommaso Debenedetti, named in the third Twitter message, became known as the Fake News disseminator. For more than ten years, he has been among the internationally renowned for leading the “leading media" by the nose.
"Simply by giving them what they wanted," as he explained several years ago.
In 2011, he sent false reports around the world via Twitter fake accounts. His "specialty" included fabricated interviews with celebrities, including Pope Benedict XVI, the Dalai Lama and writer Mario Vargas Llosa.
"Would like to become master of lies"
Debenedetti, comes from a well-known Jewish family from Biella. His father, Antonio Debenedetti is actually a journalist, and even one of the most famous in Italy. His grandfather Giacomo Debenedetti was a writer and well-known literary critic. The grandson is by definition "just a teacher" and said in 2014 of himself:
"I would like to become the master of the lie".
After all, he was cited in the 2004 interview essay published by today’s writer, editor and Pope confidant, P. Antonio Spadaro, in the Roman Jesuit magazine La Civiltà Cattolica about his grandfather Giacomo Debenedetti.
If indeed he is behind the false Twitter message of the death of Benedict XVI. is not said. The self-incrimination sounds like the fake news in the fake news. He himself stated some time ago, to have "settled down".
Whether Debenedetti or not, to allow himself a bit of fun in the death of another person, is and remains tasteless.

I hate to wish anyone dead, but I wish Francis would somehow pass before Benedict XVI. That would be a real shocker to wake up to....especially for Maridiaga, Farrell, and company.

I am with Damian! But, really, if B16 does go first, it is thought that Summaram Pontificam will be under fire.
For years before Summorum Pontificum, everyone expected an "indult" to be granted for the wider celebration of the TLM.
The great thing about Summorum Pontificum is that it is NOT an indult. Contrary to propaganda, it does NOT "give permission" for the celebration of the 1962 rites. It states that such permission has never been needed. If Bergoglio or anyone else ever tries to "repeal" SP, he will be ignored, precisely because everyone now understands that no permission is needed, or will ever be needed, to celebrate the TLM.
Somehow, I think, that Bergoglio is the marionette, and that Mariadiaga, Farrell, Forte, Parolin etc. are the real power and ideas behind the throne.
M,Prodigal,
I heard that too about Summorum Pontificum, but I think Francis wouldn't dare. His pontificate is like the Titanic as it is now, mortally wounded, taking on water and going down(from all his radical agenda, McCarrick,Farrell, etc.etc). I don't think he's stupid enough to rock an already sinking ship ! Unless he's determined to wreck as much of the Church as he can before he goes down with the ship! He's have a real, world wide rebellion on his hands, and I hope he's not that stupid ! :)

I echo your sentiments completely. The stong sense of betrayal, horror of, and profound sadness Francis has and is, mindboggling. Why is he and his sexually deviant posse ALLOWED to damage and destroy our beloved Church? Where are the voices of more common sense, moderate Cardinals?? Why are they quiet when Pope Benedict himself said the church is capsizing?
Yahudis and their games good grief will they ever leave poor Benedict
alone?
Card.(s) Tobin, Cupich, the fake smile of Wuerl who lives quite sumptuously, Jose Gomez who had 2 "married" gay men with their adopted daughter, to carry the gifts to the altar, Dolan, and the now infamous McCarrick have been allowed to run roughshod on the faithful. I'm very concerned Francis has stacked the college of card.s to vote in the next pope only worse. These filthy purveyors of satan need to be stopped and very soon.
I don't know why I always have this feeling about the next conclave, but I think that by some miracle, a good man will be chosen as the next Pope. Someone who is not actually a traditionalist, but who loves the teachings of the Church and our liturgical traditions. The first inkling that we will have a different kind of Pope than Francis will be that he'll come out vested in the red mozzetta and stole again. He will adopt a more papal style, and like Benedict, will wear and bring back much of the papal vesture lost for 50 years. He'll be too timid to bring back the papal tiara, but he will restore the sedia gestatoria quite quickly in his reign....and he will be cheered for it.
I think the next pope will bring back some of the Vatican honorary positions in the papal court that Paul VI did away with. I think he will be in his very late 60's, or maybe 70-71 but not older. Liturgically, he will encourage the Tridentine Latin Mass, expand Summorum Pontificum....and he will actually celebrate the TLM in St. Peter's, but not until about 18 months into his reign. Unfortunatly he will still quote Vatican II, but not enthusiastically. He will write and speak like a Pope, and travel a lot less, instead concentrating on work. He will diplomatically repudiate or undermine everything of the Francis pontificate...but not in an "in your face" style. But the radicals and dissidents who are celebrating now will be quietly sent into exile. Many of the Francis bishops will be removed from dioceses and given demotion jobs pushing papers as papal reps in places like Kabul, Lhasa, Ulan Bator, Timbuktu and Sa'na. Just so you know, that's Afganistan(of course), Tibet, Mongolia, Mali and Yemen. :) They will know they're unwelcome. Not a sound will come from them at all.

As long as you are willing to bend the knee to the Novus Ordo as the "Ordinary Form".
As baptized Catholics we have a right to the ecclesiastical traditions of our Church.
Summorum Pontificum was concocted for "conservatives" who don't have the courage to claim them.
Pope Benedict wrote this in July. Explains these rumors.
