It’s Sort of O.K. to Promote GLBT-P in Motherwell Diocese — God Help You If You Oppose It

Edit: we checked the Motherwell Diocesan webpage and found Father Mathew Despard still listed as a  priest, but has no Parish. Well, as he appealed to Rome, the canonical decision was partly reversed, but was kicked back to Bishop Joseph Toal who has, we are informed by the Chancellor, will not reinstate Father Despard unless he does what Toal wants him to do. Apparently, the conditions set for reinstatement to his benefice is too high, and Father will continue in what is effectively the loss of his clerical state.

While the Catholic Church has been suspending clergy for sounding the alarm, or trying to make amends for the damage being done as Father Mark Morris, who held a rosary in reparation for a GLBT-P event, it has been turning a blind eye or mildly rebuking others like Motherwell’s own Father Paul Morton, whom the Bishop has reinstated after 2015 .  It’s fortunate for Father Paul that all he did was criticize the obscurantism of his priestly colleague, instead of rebuking GLBT-P depravity, for he would surely be facing suspension a divinis now.

One wonders if Cardinal O’Brien would have kept silent about GLBT-P, that he would also have retained his place of honor in today’s modern Church. Some will recall that there was a firestorm of anger from former clergy boyfriends and victims of the Archbishop when he defended traditional marriage.

Life Site Rememebers Father Mathew Despard in its recent story:

Also in 2013, Father Matthew Despard of the Motherwell diocese self-published a book called Priesthood in Crisis in which he alleged the existence of a “gay mafia” among Scottish clergy. He claimed they had bullied him, among others. Condemning the book as defamatory, Bishop Toal rebuked Despard and eventually removed him from his parish ministry.

  2. An organized effort needs to be undertaken to deprive the church of state funds to bring in immigrants. That is going to choke off their money in large part, but the other part is to stop attending and therefore, no financial support from us.
Friends, it is all we have, and if we do not use it, we have ZERO.

  3. @Godislove, imagine the pope was talking about sodomy, not even considering sodomy against CHILDREN and minors!
This is where we need to be, recognizing finally that sodomy between consenting adults in the priesthood is categorically opposed to the priesthood and has no place in it.

  4. @Kathleen1031: "Take me home again Kathleen" to the Church of my fathers and mothers. The acceptance of sodomy is "part and parcel" the keystone of the agenda of our pontiff and his movement toward a one world religion and its place within a one world government. Remember that religion within a Communist country is part of the department of religious affairs.---- I visited Romania before the Ceaucescu Revolution on board a Navy cruiser. I also did training in Cuba. That is the way that Communism works. Now, under what format do you think that this one world religion will be peddled? It won't be democracy.

  5. I read Fr Despard’s book but unfortunately did not keep it. It has now been obliterated from the internet

If anyone has a copy please let me know.

    1. I attempted to copy what I’d found on line a few years ago, knowing that it would probably disappear, but I haven’t been able to relocate.

Some of his critics accuse him of being naive and immature, but his concerns which are talked about by Philothea on Phire blog, remind me that this is a man who at least took his vocation seriously enough to be concerned about the essentials:

  6. "whom the Bishop . It’s fortunate for Father Paul the. That all he did was criticize the obscurantism"

The poor grammar and/or translation of many of your articles renders them virtually unreadable.

  7. Matthew Despard should never have been ordained priest after having spent the night locked up in Partick police office after having drunkenly assaulted a fellow seminarian (the only one he hadn't totally antagonised) one Saturday night in a pub on Byres Road, Glasgow. He had a history of causing trouble in drink in his father's, and my, local, The Eagle Inn, Bellshill Road, Motherwell (sadly now no longer) whenever he was allowed home for a weekend.
