Pius XII was a Saint, but his canonization was blocked by Israel, said Cardinal Martins.”
Edit: so much for Nostra Aetate!
(Rome) Israel put pressure to block the beatification of Pope Pius XII. This was according to Cardinal José Saraiva Martins, former prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in the Roman daily Il Messaggero.
From 1998 to 2008, the Portuguese Cardinal was in charge of the Church's canonization and beatification process for ten years. During his tenure, 1320 saints and blessed were raised to the altars. Among them were 500 martyrs, bishops, priests, religious and lay people who were murdered in the Spanish Civil War by members of the Popular Front, who were beatified together in 2007.
Looking back, Cardinal Saraiva Martins regrets a failed beatification that was already considered certain. The pressure exerted by "Israel and the Jewish community" against Pope Pius XII. (1939-1958) did not raise him to the altars, said the cardinal. The pressure had initially slowed the ongoing beatification process until it was finally blocked. Israel and the Jewish community had rejected the idea of beatifying the Pope, who ruled during the Second World War. They accused the head of the Church of not publicly condemning the Holocaust.
"I have tried to do what was possible, and I am content to have brought the position of Pope Pacelli to the stage of a venerable servant of God."
In his conversation with Franca Giansoldati of the Roman daily Il Messaggero, the cardinal made it clear that he was "finally" the beatification of Pius XII. hoped. "He makes no secret of the negative pressing," said the newspaper.
"When I was Prefect of the Congregation, one day the Israeli Ambassador came to the Holy See and wanted to see me and expressed his irritation. He asked me to drop the case. "
In 2016, the cardinal had said that Pope Francis Pius XII. "Could beatify even today," but would not do so because of Jewish resistance.
The Cardinal has no doubt as to the reputation of the Pope's holiness:
"I have thoroughly studied his life. He did his utmost to help the Jew and the persecuted. The Vatican was full and also Castel Gandolfo. He opened the monasteries. Hitler despised him. The question is to be seen in its historical context, and it is the files to study what I have done. Pius XII. was a saint."
The Cardinal, who had accompanied so many canonizations, had been invited by Pope Francis to present his new Apostolic Exhortation, Gaudete et Exultate on the call for sanctity last Monday. This presence was the occasion for the conversation with the journalist Giansoldati.
At the beginning of the pontificate of Benedict XVI. theChurch proceedings were completed. After much pressure, the pope suspended the proceedings and ordered a new file review. At the same time an Israeli-Vatican Historical Commission was used, which led to considerable rapprochement after several years of work. At the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, due to the study of the files, the negative text under the picture of the Pope was corrected. But this did not lead to a resumption of the beatification process.

He was, and is, a saint.
He was and IS a saint - and a holy pastor of the Church whom we must seek intercession in these days of uncertainty and confusion
He made a mistake in the Fr.Leonard Feeney case by not supporting traditional extra ecclesiam nulla salus (EENS).He needed to say that the baptism of desire etc was not an explicit exception to EENS.He needed to affirm the dogma EENS in public and was not ready to do so. Mystici Corporis does not say that the baptism of desire and invincible ignorance are explicit or exceptions to the dogma EENS.However this was how the liberal theologians interpreted it.He remained silent.
The error which forms the new theology, was repeated at Vatican Council II.-Lionel

Conservative Catholics must appeal to Cardinal Ladaria to resign as CDF Prefect or affirm the dogma EENS, Vatican Council II and the exclusivist ecclesioilogy

Cardinal Luiz Ladaria's Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity at the time of taking office as Secretary and now Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith was invalid. : norm preceded by cardinals Ratzinger and Ottaviani

Probably this epoch is not the time to be canonised. Best wait till all this nonsense in the Church is over and then go about the processin the old way
Yes, I consider him saintly. Some of the more recent beatifications....not so much.
I hope Israel, or somebody, blocks the canonisation of Paul VI. Somebody, anybody, please.
In the current climate, those that were members of the Popular Front in Spain would be canonized. In the liberal mindset, these 500 "martyrs" were deservedly so.
Why are we not outraged that these rejectors of Christ have been given the power to tell Christian people not only what they can discuss amongst themselves, but incredible who can be canonized as a saint. It seems the wicked Sanhedrin has never gone away. Unbelievable.
You are either with Christ and His Church, or you are with the Jews in their rejection of Christ. There is no other way.
Sorry, but the person above is correct. Jews need to be converted. Learn your faith.
Read Nostra Aetate, then read Dignitatis Humanae Nostrae.
Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus has never been abrogated.
I am a raving ass, and it's become patently obvious that I'm a masonic, Christ-hating, foul-mouthed fomentor of lies and heresy. I'm sorry.
On the contrary, Jesus Christ established it with His own words.
If the bedrock of Catholic Faith can be argued to be optional from the pages of Vatican II, why can't the shifting sands and dead letter of Nostra Aetate be optional reading to all but the Masonic spirits who inspired and were inspired by it? In light of a half-century of continued open and clandestine warfare waged by the main of Jewish and Islamic forces on Catholic civilization, you don't expect me to take Nostra Aetate seriously, do you?
Pius XII did as much as humanely possible to help the Jews in Germany and did less than nothing to help the Catholics in Russia.
There has never been any Papal duty to protect Messias-FDeneirs but there is duty to try and protect Catholic.
He failed, thus, no canonisation
If you don't take Nostra Aetate seriously Tancred then you don't take Catholicism seriously. The Magisterium of Vatican II is not an optional extra. That view is for the moral and doctrinal relativists of the trad version of Cafeteria Catholicism.
What a load of convoluted rubbish, Lionel. ‘who's in and who's out’ is a vengeful child's game that has nothing in common with the mind, heart and will of Jesus Christ.
EENS is for Gnostics.
Sorry CW- EENS is affirmed by Jesus in John 3:5 and Mark 16:16 and was supported by the Apostles the Church Fathers and the Magisterium in the 16th century. It is there in Vatican Council II which says all need faith and baptism for salvation (AG 7) and in the Catechism of the Catholic Church which cites AG 7 ( CCC 846). The Catechism says God wants all people to be united in the Catholic Church the Church is the only Ark of Noah that saves in the flood(CCC 845). This was the description of the Church according to the saints, including St. Thomas Aquinas. So there is no change in the teachings on EENS before and after Vatican Council II.-Lionel
Read Nostra Aetate, then read Dignitatis Humanae Nostrae.
Lionel:
Yes I have read them.
They do not contradict the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus.
Neither do they contradict Ad Gentes 7 which says all need faith baptism for salvation. The word 'all' is mentioned.-Lionel
The Magisterium of Vatican II is not an optional extra.
Lionel:
I agree with you.
Vatican Council II is in harmony with the past exclusivist ecclesiology of the Catholic Church, upon which depended an ecumenism of return and the proclamation of the Social Reign of Christ the King and traditional Mission doctrines. Vatican Council II and the Catechism(1994) are in harmony with the Syllabus of Errors.
However it is important to interpret Vatican Council II without an irrational premise.

Lionel: Liberals and traditionalists must not interpret Vatican Council II with the invisible-people-are visible premise. Then the Council will not be a rupture with Tradition. It will have a hermeneutic of continuity with Tradition.-Lionel
Yes, Jesus said that those who do not believe will be condemned.(Mark 16:16) He was talking about the first Catholic Community, the Early Church, the early Catholic Church, the only Church Jesus founded. It was necessary to believe in Jesus and live His teachings according to the Catholic Church.
Jesus also said enter through the narrow gate for the way to Hell is wide and most people take it. Most peope do not know about Jesus or they know about him but refuse to enter the Catholic Church with faith and baptism. They die outside the Church and are now in Hell.
Jesus has also said that unless a man is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter Heaven(John 3.5). So baptism of water in the Catholic Church is necessary for salvation( to avoid Hell)-Lionel
None of the above are God. What they thought and taught was by their own conditioned by their own capacity to understand, conceptualize and express the incomprehensible, their own analogical imagination and the inexpressible.
God is not limited by any of these bodies or individuals no matter how eminent and/or authoritative. That's where the promoters of EENS are trapped inside the cocoon of their own category error.
God has not limits, sand pits do and you, Lionel, have gone for the safety of the kids play box.
I don’t take you or your Bologna School scriveners off the divine seriously, and Nostra Aetate has never been anything more than a suggestion and a naive expectation that scorpions don’t sting.

So what do you do, reject Vatican Council II also since it supports Feeneyite EENS?-Lionel
I just want to know how his analogia entis is better than that of St. Gregory Nyssa or Athanasius.
Vatican II supports many things such as the pre-eminence of Latin in the Liturgy while at the same time allowing for substantial modifications including the vernacular (Trent discussed this too), Latin to be taught in seminaries (where has that gone?), the pyramid theology of Church hierarchy alongside the 'People of God' ecclesiology, an ecclesiology of centralization in tension with decentralization and extensive power to local churches etc, etc.
The Council, like those before it, is a living thing and needs to be interpreted according to the minds of the bishops who did the debating, wrote the documents then returned to their dioceses to teach and implement the Council's intentions. They had to choose what was applicable to their situation, what worked and what didn't (standard Church practice for centuries), ignored those things that they and their people discerned (judged) not useful and adopted those things that were. EENS was in effect was not received universally so was sidelined. Cardinal Cushing's action against Feeney, supported by Rome, is a clear example of the Church choosing what better reflects the mind of God and God's saving grace in the world.
The church is forever revising its understandings of its own beliefs and reinterpreting them in order to evangelize more effectively.
EENS represents a flawed, limited theology of Church and salvation that had to be 'quietly' discarded.
The only people clinging to it apparently are those whose Catholic identity is dependent on the exclusion and damnation of most of the human.
BTW, Tancred, the world of Gregory of Nyssa and Athanasius was racked with dialectic, ideological conflict so it is entirely understandable that they backed up their apologetics with dire threats of eternal exclusion for those who did not accept their theses. That pattern of argument is still used by some minority groups in the Catholic and evangelical Churches. You play this card all the time. It's your bread and butter.
A far bigger problem for you than the 'Bologna school,' Tancred, is that 'School of the Council Fathers' themselves who debated the great issues, wrote the documents that included the ambiguities and compromises agreed upon with the Ottaviani cohort, the went back home and promptly discarded that which they learned would not be accepted by their people (sensus fidei fidelium). It's no coincidence that Paul VI described Vatican II as Newman's Council.
Tancred, there are next to no theologians of substance who have the professional gravitas to support the view that Vatican II is an optional extra. Both John Paul II and Benedict, neither left wing incendiaries, teach that Vat II contains, preserves and teaches all the doctrines of all the preceding Councils.
'People of God' ecclesiology, an ecclesiology of centralization in tension with decentralization and extensive power to local churches etc, etc.
Lionel:
Why does the People of God ecclesiology have to reject traditional EENS ?
There is no new Revelation in the Catholic Church.

Lionel: And how did they do it? By assuming invisible people are visible on earth.
And how did they do it? By assuming unknown people in Heaven are physically visible and known.
So what was their conclusion?
That invisible people are visible examples of salvation outside the Church.
This was the 'rational' conclusion of adult men at that time.
So by violating the Principle of Non Contradiction, they believed the result would be ' a clear example of the Church choosing what better reflects the mind of God and God's saving grace in the world'.
The joke still continues.

Obviously if you use an irrational premise to interpret Vatican Council II the conclusion will be a rupture with Tradition.
Similarly when an irrational premise was used to interpret the baptism of desire, baptism of blood and being saved in invicible ignorance, there was a rupture with traditional extra ecclesiam nulla salus ; Feeneyite outside the Church there is no salvation.

Paul VI
Lionel:Pope Paul VI in Evangelii Nuntiandi supported EENS. He said that the Church is the only way to salvation even though members of the other religions have their hands raised to God.
Pius XII gave the
"Liturgical Change Commission" his blessing and full support.
All of this talk about radical changes and the New Mass yet without Pius XII "changes" circa
1951-1958,the New Mass wouldn't have been possible.
Not only that but he outright destroyed the oldest most venerable Apostolic traditions.
Until 1953/1957,Catholics fasted after midnight for Holy Communion.
Pius XII promoted Bp.Montini and most of the leftist modernist bishops at Vatican 2.
He's definitely the first of the modern progressive "Pope's."
With all this stated I sincerely hope he is in Heaven or Purgatory.
Wouldn't you say that St. Pius X's changes were worse?
By gravitas and substance, he means theologians who agree with the likes of Suennens, Daneels, Kung, Casper and Schillebeeckx.
I have read literature written by Men much more educated than myself stating Pius X new Breviary was a stark unnecessary departure from Catholic tradition.
It was this very Breviary that Pius XII and the Vatican 2 Bishops recited from the time of their ordination.
It seems that one major change had a negative impact.(I could be wrong)
With that said,Pius XII had a much more visible strong handed role in revolution's staging.(1951-1958)
Which one omitted the Athanasian Creed?
Pius X's reforms were more inclusive of the Church's life than just the content of the breviary, which was bad in itself, but encouraged the cult of frequent Communion. The liberals who hailed these reforms in the 20s and 30s were the real architects of Vatican II.
We - Real Catholics - know in our hearts that Pope Pius XII is truly a saint. As regards the Jews - their left hand does not know what their right hand has done. What nonsense to pay them any heed. Those who have read about Venerable Pope Pius XII know that the Chief Rabbi of Rome, during Nazi occupation, appreciated all Pope Pius XII did to save Jews that he became a Catholic at the end of the war and he took the Pope's name for Confirmation - Eugenio. That wonderful, brave Pope saved more Jews than any one person. The anti-Pope hatred was propagated by a hate-monger of an English writer called John Cornwell who wrote "Hitler's Pope" with a poison pen.
Yes, that beautiful Pope is a Saint. Lord rest his soul and when the Church has recovered from this nightmare time under Francis, and when we have a Holy Pope again, Pius XII will be raised to the Sainthood.
