Pope Francis Kneeling at Palm Sunday Mass |
(Rome) On Palm Sunday, Pope Franziskus celebrated the Liturgy of the blessing of the Palms, and Holy Mass on the St. Peter's Square in Rome - and knelt down.
When the Passion story was sung, when the words came, "But Jesus cried aloud. Then he breathed out the spirit," all knelt down in memory of the death of Jesus Christ. Pope Francis, too, knelt on a knee-stool prepared for him.
This is to be reported, because the missing kneeling of the reigning pope before the Most Blessed Sacrament was recently discussed in some contributions with a view to the forthcoming Holy Thursday. The kneeling in remembrance of the crucifixion of Christ is a deep reverence. The kneeling before the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of the Altar, and as the highest form of expression in the worship of the most sacred, is another stage of worship.

All one with the de rigour elevation of the Book of the Gospels in procession; but, show forth to the world the Most Sacred Host displayed in a monstrance in solemn procession? Rigid, rigid, rigid!
ReplyDeleteA shocking sight indeed! But probably just a "signaling" that Francis is feeling this week "healthy enough" to kneel, so the Thursday muslim feet kissing won't be as big a surprise.
ReplyDeleteGood point.
DeleteI have never seen him kneel to the Sacred Species. He always kneels on Holy Thursday. Must be a Jesuitism. There are many Jesuits with great knees, and many of their hosts of followers (especially nuns) who never kneel to acknowledge the Most Blessed Sacrament!
ReplyDeleteI think there was one event.
DeleteI went to Confession last Saturday, and when praing after Confessing, I saw two people in this parish near me bringing in microphones, amplifiers, and guitars (not electric guitars), for the 5:00 Saturday evening Mass. I think (hope) guitar Masses are nearly extinct, but they still try to keep it alive in this parish. Funny thing because it was hated and laughed at when it came in in 1966, and people still hate it now....except the radical liberal crowd.
ReplyDeleteI watched the two people, a man and a woman both in their late 40's probably, not genuflecting whenever they passed the Blessed Sacrament in the tabranacle. Instead, just a quick nod of the head or short bow.
When I got up to leave, I genuflected and blessed myself facing the tabernacle.....not in a Pharasitical way, as if to say :look how reverent I am", but just my everyday, normal expression of respect before the Blessed Sacrament. I thought the guy briunging in the microphones was going to puke right on the altar steps by the expression he gave me for genuflecting. Too bad that people like them feel that way. Fortunatly....they are much older than me, and a more respectful generation is coming to replace this aged, stale, Vatican II inspired generation. Including the Pope.

Damian--I have seen nearly the same thing. In fact, the "band" laughed away in the Church, joking around before the "youth" Mass...very sad. They don't realize how Protestant they've become. God have mercy on us all.
DeleteAnd I have seen the same thing...sad
DeleteI have Arthritis in my Left Knee & Hip. I kneel for the Conscreation of the Mass then sit up again. Also I bow before the Blessed Sacrament instead of genuflecting. When I do Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament I do sit.
ReplyDeleteOn the second Saturday of each month Mom and I go to the chiropractor. So on that weekend, I usually don't kneel because I don't want to throw out my adjustment. Otherwise, I kneel.
DeleteIn the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, we are forbidden to kneel from Pascha to Pentecost inclusive. After 40 days of kneeling and prostrations during the Great Fast, you're about ready for 50 days of standing. ;-)
Well gahlee!! Look he's kneeling!
ReplyDeleteHaha!"the holy Father" is kneeling oh how he loves tradition!
This is so pathetic.
