Che Pope with Hammer and Sickle |
At Carnevale di Viareggio, Italy's most famous carnival parade, to which more than 300,000 people came to the Tuscan city this year, were met by a float dedicated to Pope Francis.
The Catholic Church's chief was portrayed with a radiant face, Che Guevara cap and red star. His shepherd's staff in his right hand was not decorated by a cross, but by hammer and sickle. Apparently it was a homage to the hammer and sickle cross, which Bolivian President Evo Morales had given to the pope in 2015. The left hand was clenched to the fist, the battle salute of the workers' movement, which is still practiced by left-wing groups. The pope was surrounded by putti-like gold figures depicting Marx, Lenin, Mao and Fidel Castro.
In short, Pope Francis was shown as "Papa Comunista", "Communist Pope".The laughing expression of the face of the carnival figure testified that the authors did not mean this representation negatively in any way.
The Carnival parade of Viareggio, a town in deeply political Tuscany, was founded in 1873, when some rich citizens disguised themselves to demonstrate incognito against excessive taxes. Since then, the move has served as a "valve" to let go of displeasure in current circumstances or to express things that are otherwise might not be said.

Everyone in Italy knows what they meant...and believe me, the Italians don't think it or Francis is funny.

Careful, they'll get a letter from the law firm they hired to protect his image.
I heard of the film "Hope Floats" but I never suspected there was a "Pope Floats" sequel.
They need to get on with running this guy out on a rail and chucking him into the Tiber. C'mon Italians, we're counting on you.
I don't think we should discount the possibility that the pope views this as a compliment.
His only quibble may be that his cohort didn't also include La Pasionaria and Rosa Luxemburg because it appears to have been hideously male and therefore an affront to a more just and equal society.
Maybe Ortega, Frida and Diego!
This is the 'diabolical disorientation' that Our Lady of Fatima, spoke about, a warning to Catholics!
Have you no fear of God, for posting such? To the joy of the enemy of every stripe! And a fool thinks, God is pleased. When you attack the Vicar of Christ, you attack the Church whose HEAD is Jesus Christ. Nothing happens without His Will! You got that? We deserve Pope Francis, who is a creation, obedient 'pupil' of his predecessors. Yes, especially the 'saints.'
God Will Not Be Mocked!
"The laughing expression of the face of the carnival figure testified that the authors did not mean this representation negatively in any way."
Shirley, you can't be serious.
There's a vast difference between God's perfect will and his permissive will as we know ....
if the shoe fits.....
Yes, hopefully the "God will not be mocked" message will sink into Bergoglio, and he'll be converted. Blindly following a man who exhibits nothing but hatred and contempt for Catholicism is not what our Lord expected of us. Most likely, he is anti-pope, a plausible theory lent credence, with Benedict being forced out and still being addressed as "Holy Father." There can't be two popes, period.
No, God will not be mocked, but the audaciously insane like you should be.
Perfect, just perfect! Hope God will still deliver us from this Pope. Thanks, Viareggio!
"God is not a catholic" - Bergoglio
"Bergoglio is not a catholic" - God
Ortega, Diego and Frida are also worthy candidates, especially with the latter two living in an 'irregular situation', but we can't leave position no.4 vacant! The only possible option has got to be Lev Bronstein. Not only did he selflessly 'accompany' Diego and Frida, thus making their situation even more irregular but his preferred method of delivering his "message" before his spectacular fall from grace, was from a train. Now which other prominent figure makes impassioned statements whilst on one particular mode of transport?
Well,Mussolini did achieve making the trains run on Time.
The last I heard is that Francis responded with "Don't call me 'surely'" The "Airplane" movie is a classic. Francis quite a bit less so.
@OjczeNasz3: You need to crack a smile and take life a lot less seriously. If you can't laugh and accept humor, then you are seeking only tragedy.
