Lord Have Mercy!
Edit: this year Crashed Ice, featured by same-sex promoting Red Bull, is back again. The venue isn't AS appealing and sacrilegious, but it is. For those of you who don't know, "Crashed Ice" involves the Archbishop's prostituting of the Cathedral for a winter sporting event where eager competitors careen down a ramp that leads from the top of the St. Paul Cathedral steps down the hill and into downtown Saint Paul for amazing cash prizes and the adulation of thousands of fans on TV and live.
We understand that the powers and principalities who rule this Archdiocese have to take care of paying large salaries to diocesan pay staff, despite the huge subsidies they receive for being a warden of the welfare state, cush retirments, trips to Thailand, and other things like that, but is it really worth it when there is serious damage to the Catholic brand by appealing to satanic corporations and vulgar sports fans, that actually work against the primary Catholic message? How many people are actually persuaded by these boondoggles, we wonder?
Last year we made a big deal about this and generated some sissies on the blog commenting who made mostly pointless objections and idle threats to our concerns. Catholic education has always been very poor in Minnesota, and it only shows, that when a lot of these concerned citizens chime in, they have nothing but emotions and half-baked sentiments with which to reply.
This year the ramp has been moved further down from the cathedral door, which now you can see, but the ramp comes down from the top of the steps. It's like they realized how crappy it looked last year and made some adjustments. Also, the crowd is only projected at 100,000, which is down 20 from last year's estimated 120,000.
At any rate, this is still an appalling bad show on the part of the stewards of our Catholic Faith in this Archdiocese. Some of the readers will ask, "are you surprised?" No, not after witnessing years and years of their negligence and neglect. What would be shocking is if there were ever an orthodox clergy, with an orthodox Archbishop. Have we ever had one?
We'll conclude this discussion with:
Can. 1210 In a sacred place only those things are to be permitted which serve to exercise or promote worship, piety and religion. Anything out of harmony with the holiness of the place is forbidden. The Ordinary may however, for individual cases, permit other uses, provided they are not contrary to the sacred character of the place.
Great post!!
ReplyDeleteThankfully there are various traditional Catholic chapels in Minnesota. The faith is still alive though greatly diminished from the mid 1960's.
Thank you, but I don't think you have to be in attendance at a Traditional Chapel or even to be a Catholic to come to the obvious conclusion that turning your cathedral into centerpiece for a sporting event sponsored by a sodomy promoting, decadent corporation like Red Bull, televised worldwide, is probably inconsistent with your overriding message.
DeleteWow! This really looks incredible! And a lot of fun! The Catholic Church is not some stodgy, distant severe authoritarian puritanical gang, but is part of the culture of any society. Let's face it. You Minnesotans culturally focus on: Sports, and Prince (RIP), and sports again and not much else. So the highest point in St Paul, Cathedral Hill, seems like an excellent venue for DOWNHILL SKATING (sports....see?)
DeleteI think the Cathedral looks AMAZING! How wonderful that it's the focus of cultural life in the Twin Cities! Reminder that the Church is part of everyday life..............AND SPORTS!
ha ha haaaaaa
ReplyDeletefor a tedious repetitive larf......see the link for this event last year and the responses from Tanktred. Looks like he/she/it hasn't learned a thing this year!
I got threatened last year by one of you inarticulate fruitcakes, and I guess I learned that for the time being you lack the courage of your faith in the sportz god of bourgeois mediocrity.
Deleteheee hee heee
DeleteYou see how this guy portrays himself as some sort of righteous crusader willing, with his laptop clutched in his sweaty fingers, to take the slings and arrows of others, "threatened last year by one of you inarticulate fruitcakes." What a champion! What a hero! I notice that he doesn't actually respond to what is said, but seems quite good at answering something else.
Blogging is for courageous men like him!
What's wrong, Nancy Boy?
DeleteTancred: way to hang tough on this and keep bringing it up. Last year's defenders of this display seemed to fit broad categories of either A: excusing this abomination and B: attacks. It's all so Novus Ordo: excuse the betrayal and then attack those with sensus Catholicus. And of course, if any nearby clergy actually says Catholic Mass, then somehow all the scandal is made right. This whole thing is an example of the psychological operation against the faithful since 1965: no matter what ridiculous stunt they pull, Catholics in the pews will baptize it, defend it, and attack those who question it.
ReplyDeleteYour last 6 sentences are exactly right!
DeleteYes! This is the sad result of Vatican II! Don't you see the progression of cause and effect? It eventually leads to Ice Skating competitions and worse! Get your marching boots on everyone......I hear that this summer a group is sponsoring a fun-run up on Cathedral hill and may use the parking lot/plaza area of the Cathedral to start finish the race!
DeleteGHASTLY!
@Anonymous (February 5, 2017 at 5:50 PM)
DeleteGHASTLY is a good description for the level of regard shown for Applicable Canon Law Quoted by Tancred. -Oh wait a minute! What am I thinking
the Bergoglio faction is in power and the law is therefore meaningless. Thanks for putting things in such a good-tempered, novus ordo perspective.

When I once protested to a priest about irreverence and sacrilege inside a temple, I had to remind him that the house of God is a house of prayer. Astonishingly, he responded that I had given him a light. I was glad he said that, but asked myself how could he not have known this?
ReplyDeleteMark 11:15-17; Matthew 21: 12-13; Luke 19: 45-46; John 2: 14-17;
"...And he suffered not that any man should carry a vessel through the temple; And he taught, saying to them: Is it not written, My house shall be called the house of prayer to all nations? But you have made it a den of thieves."
sorry, how does your little story relate to this?
DeleteIt's obvious to how it relates. Please tell me why you disagree.
Delete"sorry, how does your little story relate to this?". I can't believe you cannot see how the post did not relate to the Archbishop. If Jesus does not scourge this Archbishop now for defiling the House of God during this life, God will do it in the next. From scripture this Archbishop is condemned for his stupid modernist ideas. Let this Bishop attempt to do this in a Mosque or a Jewish Temple and Bergolio would completely destroy him. The most serious crime against Heaven was done in a real House of God, a Roman Catholic Cathedral, by a Bishop.
DeleteThank you Tancred, for doing your part to bring attention to this. It is a terrible thing to see.
ReplyDeleteWe're in big trouble here, and everywhere. The heretics are in charge, and it appears we are outnumbered. If Minnesotans don't care, there's not much anybody else can do. It's a sure bet the pope doesn't care, he would surely support it. Most Catholics don't care as well. The only people who care are the small, faithful remnant.
May God help us, and soon.
Ice skating = heresy
DeleteLol, some smirking imp has been triggered.
DeleteI can see markets and carnivals I think there was always a tradition of having these in towns outside the Cathedral assuming nothing immoral is happening or being promoted. On the property of the Church itself of course is not good. in my diocese they have a carnival company run carnivals in the church parking lot to help generate revenues, my problem with it is they have these DURING Lent! That to me is insane.
ReplyDeleteIn Europe there are stalls around the cathedral where merchants can sell stuff. That never bothered me. I enjoyed the Sunday markets by the cathedral.
DeleteHey do words mean what they say?
ReplyDeleteThis guy? posts Canon 1210: In a sacred place only those things are to be permitted which serve to exercise or promote worship, piety and religion......etc
did you notice the FIRST WORD???
IN.............IN............IN!!!
That word, "In" means "IN" as in INSIDE! Or do you think there should be a perimeter around every Catholic piece of property....say, 100 yards outside where the bishop should expect holiness/piety?
This is really funny! You people can't read!
Skating looks like a lot of fun!
This is the finest St. Paul Seminary has to offer. XD
Delete'That word, "In" means "IN" as in INSIDE!'
DeleteThere we go again with the novus ordo mentality: Canon Law always justifies whatever desecration spawns in their novus ordite skulls.
Notice how in this case one word, a preposition becomes the whole of the Canon. Actually the entire phrase reads, "In a sacred place". Is it possible that the sacred place of a Cathedral also pertains to the dignity with which it is due on the outside of its walls, and its grounds and staircase? -Nope, not when Canon Law gets in the way of money. If the novus ordite gets paid to hang a pentagram on the front door, just remember the words of this Anonymous: "IN.............IN............IN!!!" And as usual everything is fine.
One of the athletes invited me to Crashed Ice last night so I thought I'd check it out and support him. As I approached the event I already felt uncomfortable. Something didn't quite seem right. By the time I left I was appalled by what I had seen. Satanic imagery everywhere, music such as "Running With the Devil" and "Enter Sandman" blasting from the very porch of the Cathedral, and people openly walking around with handles of liquor. Saying that featuring the Cathedral in the background creates an opportunity for evangelism is a joke. I'm sure the archdiocese is hurting because of the scandal it has had to deal with, but adopting a culture of idolatry certainly is not the way to turn things around. When did that ever work for God's people? The question is, how do we convince our leaders that this is troubling to us?
ReplyDeleteNo depths to which the Novus Ordo Church, a non-Catholic sect occupying the buildings and offices of the True Catholic Church, will not plunge.
