Female "Pastor" Smashes Marian Statue in Brazil to Pieces -- Brazilian Catholics Outraged

Edit: in the US, Catholics probabaly would have bleated ineffectually about freedom
of speech and done nothing.

(Rio de Janeiro) The "pastoress" of a Protestant congregation smashed a statue of Our Lady of Aparecida. The scene was filmed and released to the public. The great indignation caused by this caused the woman apologize in a video for her deed.

The incident occurred in the hinterland of the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo. In Botucatu, a Protestant female pastor of a local congregation performed a memorial service for Our Lady of Aparecida, Brazil's most important pilgrimage destination, in a meadow, and beat her with a hammer. The hammer attack left the Marian statue  in pieces. Brazilian media talked about it as the act of frenzy and even obsession. The fact is that in certain parts of Protestant free churches, they are strongly influenced by Calvinism, where there is a radical dislike for Mary and the worship of the Mother of God. The sectarian attitude must be repelent to all members of the Catholic and Orthodox Church.

The devotees of the "pastoress" cshouted "Hallelujah" during the destruction, praised Jesus and spoke of a "purification".

The destruction scene was filmed and the video released. The indignation was so great that the "pastoress" was compelled to publicly apologize for her misdeed.

2017 marks the 300th anniversary of Aparecida's Matian apparition. On 24th of July, Pope Francis visited the pilgrimage site in the State of Sao Paulo. At that time, the police uncovered a bomb. It was a professionally produced explosive set with deadly intent. Whoever  had set the bomb could not be found out. In the run-up, left-extreme and aberrosexual organizations had protested against the papal visit. Francis had traveled to Brazil for World Youth Day.

  1. In Mexico, Central America and South America this has become all too common. The heresy of Modernism is to blame. Like here in the US, priests stopped preaching the fullness of truth. This has led to a mass exodus of Catholics to these sects who's God is blasphemy and sacrilege. Faithful Catholics don't wait for the law to act, many Catholics take matters into their own hands. They reject and isolate these devil incarnates and that makes them even more furious. It leads them to do like this "pastoress". Sad thing is that these former Catholics are growing in numbers. Mexico was once 99% Catholic, now that percentage has gone down significantly. Modernism has played the sole role for this evil. Even here in the US Hispanics are filling the pews of the anti-Catholic religions. So much for the so called ministries to Hispanics, total failure! Give them Traditional Catholicism and most Hispanics will respond but for now they are leaving in droves.

  2. Catholics are certainly not in favor of "the worship of the Mother of God" either.
Veneration, yes, but never worship. I'm sure you know this already.

    1. Buy a dictionary, you won't regret it.

    2. Tancred, I believe his point is that in most cases we use worship to refer to that which we owe God alone, and veneration to the blessed. The proper term would be hyperdulia, which is the singular veneration we render to the Mother of God. Most Protestants accuse us of "worshiping" Mary as we also worship God, as an accusation of idolatry.

    3. No, that's what the article itself says.

    4. Best if you define both terms so one knows what you meant. I'm a Catholic and I pray the rosary regularly, and ask Mary for her intercession. I worship only God. By worship I mean adoration. By veneration I mean honor, and for God's blessed mother, the highest possible for a human, uniquely possible for her, but not that that which is due to God alone. Anonymous Two

    5. Meh: The word is derived from the Old English weorþscipe, meaning worship, honour shown to an object,[1] which has been etymologised as "worthiness or worth-ship"—to give, at its simplest, worth to something.[2]

    6. Tancred, hi, this is Anonymous (One) again,
My major was Latin, my minor was ancient Greek. Additionally, I studied Biblical Hebrew, Egyptian Hieroglyphics, Syriac, and I was an Arabic linguist in the Navy for a number of years. "Buy a dictionary" - lol. May I suggest you buy a beginner's Catholic catechism? Catholics do not "worship" Mary. That is basic, whatever the Anglo-Saxon origin of the word.

    7. So? Since you're such a linguistic squid, you'll know that it's synonymous with veneration or doulia, that fitting reverence which is fitting for things that are less than God.

    8. such Christian charity, couldn't both of you reply in a charitable manner explaining your points of you?

    9. Everybody with an internet connection has an opinion, I guess. I thought I was being charitable by trying to exposing the meaning of etymology to a supposed linguist.

    10. The last thing i would call "Buy a dictionary, you won't regret it", said to someone you knew nothing about, is "charitable". "Worship" in modern English (which we are speaking, not Anglo-Saxon) is not synonymous with doulia. It is synonymous with 'latria'.
      Doulia is synonymous with veneration.
Catholics venerate saints, they super-venerate (to put a Latin dress on hyperdoulia) the All-Holy Mother of God, but they certainly do not worship them.
It is interesting to follow the origin of words and their paths down the centuries as they change, but they surely do change and have some fixed meaning for a time. Worship in modern standard English now means the adoration due only to God.
I look forward to more of your charity.

    11. Neither were you charitable.

    12. Tancred, I see that by worship you didn't and don't mean, in any way, adoration, due only to God. I see how etymologically you may have a valid case although I'm not studied to make that judgement. Did you mean that worship might and might not involve adoration? In other words, one can honor a being one adores, and one can honor a being one does not adore.

A Catholic may become confused if he fails to make that distinction in the use of the term worship.

And the use of the term "worship" could serve as an impediment to conversion to non-Catholic Christians, and non Christians. If they believe, or others tell them, that Catholics worship Mary, and believe that means that we adore her as God, how can we expect them to convert? As Catholics, we need to do our part to effectively remove the misunderstanding. Should Catholics educate the world that worship may or may not be adoration? Is that realistically sufficient in the short or long term? Should Catholics be told to stop using the term worship for the Blessed Mother even if it's not etymologically wrong? Do both? What should be done to bring others to the only True faith? Anonymous Two

  4. Given the current ecclesiastical trajectory we will see this sort of event ever more widespread as the filth of the current aberrance filters down to the grassroots level.
Our faith is a rich tapestry. Jettisoning moral practice and adult accountability, debasing the Holy Eucharist -- what would a statue be to the "theologians" and ecclesiastics who promote heresy.
Nothing is sacred to them but their own notions.

  5. This is another reason why all Catholics should make the Five First Saturdays. The intention for the fifth First Saturday is to make reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for those who outrage Her in Her holy images.

  6. When it comes to the word "worship" it has different usages in different languages. I have seen some Church Latin translations that speak of the "worship" of the Blessed Virgin. In Spanish we have many Hymns and prayers that say to Our Lady, "Te Adoramos" "Te Adoro Madrecita". Adoro means worship, we worship Our Lady not with the same worship of God. We are not saying to Our Lady that she is the Supreme Being, Creator of Heaven and Earth, a 4th person of the Most Holy Trinity etc... Not at all, we are saying that Our Love for her is the highest honor next to God. Even when a guy says to a girl, I worship the ground you walk on, one is not attributing all of creation to her but only expressing a very deep admiration. Its simple, there is worship that belongs to God alone and there are different types of worship which we practice that is in no way Idolatry. Even the anti-Catholics do this but their arguments are meant only to debase Our Lady.

    1. Why let Protestants command the language, especially when they are linguistically wrong and dishonest?

      Delete
    2. You already allowed them to command the language by saying we "worship" Mary.

    3. Tancred, Your exactly right. The anti-Catholics do not search for truth, they search for anything they can use to attack the True Church. Didn't Christ abandon groups for acting like the anti-Catholics. We should follow that example and just not listen to the die hard anti-Catholics. Lets attend only to those who are truly searching for the Truth.

    5. My priest helped me realize by arguing with or debating non-Catholics,we only add fuel to their blasphemy, apostasy, denial, and anger at the One True Church.
It would take a St.Paul or St.Vincent Ferrar to convince or convert 21st Century non-Catholic.Let our actions & lives be their inspiration.

  7. It is a tactic of the demons to get the people to leave the Catholic Church. I want to remind that Solomon bowed to his mother and ordered that a throne for her be put near to his. Jesus as king of the universe has enthroned her also.
