Witnesses say the man entered the buiding at around 8.45pm.
He was wearing a hoody and armed with a knife and sawn-off shotgun.
A staff member was able to escape and raise the alarm.
Around 70 monks live in the retirement home in Montferrier-sur-Lez.
It is unclear whether the gunman is still at the home or if he has fled.

Muslims?
I'll bet ya any money they aint Mormons or Mennonites.
Its time to dump the Novus Ordo and return to the pre-1950 Roman Catholic way of life, socially & liturgical!!!
Anyone else tired of Europe USA Australia etc.being attacked by third world illiterate non-Catholics who are supported with welfare by native tax payers via liberal communist Christ hating Govts?
I don't recall any citizen being asked if we want this garbage trash B.S. in our Nations.
He's fled away, unknown for the Police, pardon, Gendarmerie, still missing.
Don't be so sure...Mormons are pretty violent. Mountain Meadows, case in point.
So we've narrowed it down to Moslems or Mormons, I guess. If the gunman was wearing a white shirt, dark tie and a name badge, he was probably a Mormon. If he was wearing a keffiyeh, then more likely a Mohammedan.
A Muslim or possibly a victim of abuse from one of the monks?
Eskimos?
The man had a mask and dark clothing, armed with a knife and a sawn-off shotgun, shots were heard and probably there's a second victim.
A Muslim, what else? Duh!

What is a "retirement home for monks"? Don't monks live in community where they are looked after until the end of their days?
It's probably Novus Ordo.
Couldenhove-Kalergi plan.
Look this up and you will see who allows Muslims into our Nations.
Maybe its one of those Thuc line clergy you so richly castigate,Steve.
Recently read a quote
"The Arabs & Africans power over the streets of the West derive from illiteracy, zero education, and blind religious obedience."
Whoever said that is very intelligent & observant.
Can you imagine
"I was a priest 45 yrs,now its time to golf, travel, and enjoy the golden years"
Seems antithetical to the idea of being a priest forever in the order of Malchizedek.
I'm being sardonic but you get my point.
