Cardinal Nichols Objects to Correct Catholic Worship

Edit: found this on Father Ray Blake's blog where Nichols is warning his clergy against praying as Catholics have prayed since the times of the Apostles, adopting a novelty developed by Protestants.

This is how the CDW interprets it:
The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments has been asked whether the expression in n. 299 of the Institutio Generalis Missalis Romani constitutes a norm according to which the position of the priest versus absidem [facing the apse] is to be excluded.
The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, after mature
reflection and in light of liturgical precedents, responds:
Negatively, and in accordance with the following explanation.
The explanation includes different elements which must be taken into account. First, the word expedit does not constitute a strict obligation but a suggestion that refers to the
construction of the altar a pariete sejunctum (detached from the wall). It does not require, for example, that existing altars be pulled away from the wall. The phrase ubi possibile sit (where it is possible) refers to, for example, the topography of the place, the availability of space, the artistic value of the existing altar, the sensibility of the people participating in the celebrations in a particular church, etc.

Note: maybe now, Cardinal Nichols can get his Soho Masses back?

Saw video of a novus ordo service and it was bad even by new order standard's.
No English confiteor, the baptist-esque choir sang every prayer,etc..it was worse than description I am giving.
Long story short this article doesn't surprise me.
I grew up novus ordo.At one of our 'Masses' in 6th grade, our entire class were standing on the red carpet steps in front of the dinner table, snapping in 4-4 time to James Taylor on a beatbox in front of the organ.
That was 30 year's ago.We were already practicing protestant worship back then.

And 'reform of the reform' is out too... Very sad

That was so cut off at the knees quickly. Far too many clergy don't believe in Christ, so why would they want to pray facing Him? They love their humanistic liturgy, with man at the center. We just have seen how far entrenched the Vatican II mentality has seeped into and infected the Church. New Mass, new theology, new catechism, etc. The empty churches speak volumes on how well that has worked.

Which direction was Christ facing when he was hanging from the cross on Calvary. Anyone know?

Does anyone care what Gaybriel or the reprobate nominalists at the liturgical hair salon think?

Genty said...

What's more important is that everyone was turned towards Christ on the cross.

Tancred said...

Fact: Christians have been praying facing to the east since the Apostolic Age. It's tradition.

We face East awaiting and anticipating the second coming of Christ. You don't turn your back waiting for someone on a train platform or meeting someone coming off a flight as it would be a decidedly odd thing to do apart from anything else. Also you might miss the person when they arrive.

I knew the traitors would cut Cardinal Sarah off at the knees. They were letting him know that they are in charge. Nauseating, just nauseating

Tancred, agreed they are the sort who belong in a hair salon. A bunch of effeminate old hens clucking around the salon.

Take a look at most church buildings in Manhattan for instance. How many of them face East?
Get a grip kiddies.

First create the Pantomime Horse, parade it then shoot it. And don't forget the slapstick routine just to impress the peasants.

Characters like Sarah and Burke are the creation of the now abdicated Benedict Ratzinger and his thoroughly discredited Summorum Pontificum which was a publicity stunt in the first place to appease the whinging, whining 1570 eccentrics.\
It's all over boys. Pack up the brocade, lace, boutique faddism and retire to Econe.

Gaydan,

Now that was a tart comment. Guess Tancred didn't see that one.

Tancred said...

How many Catholic schools are actually Catholic? How many Catholics are practicing?

Tancred said...

People put classical vestments in museums as treasures, surrounded by electronic sensors and watched carefully by guards. I can't imagine anyone spending all those resources to protect Fr. Gaydan's felt rainbow banners and tie-dye poly-blend chasubles 100 years from now.

Fr.Metrosexual's vestments will one day be tossed into a bonfire.
I probably won't live to see it happen, unfortunately.

Barnum said...

None of Holger's.

Barnum said...

What's the basis Fr. Gaydan for his anger? His 60's crapola was obsolete by the 80's, except in rural wannabe parishes, California, and Florida. People elsewhere either voted with their feet or the honest priest tried to steer back towards Christ... Oh...

Anonymous 4:11PM..Exactly what every Catholic needs to know!!The Immemorial Holy Mass of All Ages is beautiful and reverent. We beg almighty God for forgiveness and humility. We strike our Breasts admitting our failures, sins, and transgressions. Our holy Priest's bless and absolve us 3 times before we receive our Lord and Savior's Holy precious Body & Blood.
We face Our Blessed Almighty Lord so that he may acknowledge us.

The southern Midwest area (Mason Dixon line) rivalled Florida for Protestant liberal love fest during 'Mass'.I have experienced it in both Florida and southern Midwest.

You're right. Florida in particular will probably be the very last area in the country to recover from all the liturgical nonsense, once the old liberal clergy retire and are replaced (if it ever happens). The state of Catholic parishes there is truly atrocious, and it is entrenched.
