Internet site of the Belgian Bishops' Conference Reported a "Shock Statement" by Bishop Fellay, but in Rome the situation is being downplayed |
(Rome / Menzingen) The publication yesterday of a press release by the Superior General of the Society of St. Pius X led the media to various speculations. It's the case especially for official media: the more dismissive the attitudes towards the SSPX the more hysterical the reporting. In the Vatican, however, one who is directly involved has downplayed this and strove for reassurance.
From the Church media, who are less than friendly to the SSPX, criticism of Pope Francis was placed in the foreground, for example, by the [very aberrosexual] German section of Vatican Radio. The Internet platform Cathobel of the Belgian Bishops' Conference, which is comparable to Katholisch.de of the German Bishops Conference, even reported a "shock statement" by the Superior General.
This was made with respect to the following sentence:
"In the great and painful confusion that prevails currently in the Church, the proclamation of Catholic doctrine requires the opposition to errors which - fatally favored by a large number of shepherds, and even the Pope himself - have penetrated even into her heart"
Other media stressed the statement that the acquisition of a canonical recognition was "not" the primary objective. Thus, the media's tenor is that the SSPX had "slammed the door in the face" of Rome and "slammed the door to Rome."
However, the Superior General of the SSPX had also said that this, as a "Catholic work", is a "right" of [official] recognition.
Archbishop Pozzo: my critique is probably the "quite controversial" Post-Synodal Letter Amoris laetitia
A very different reaction took place in Rome with Curial Archbishop Guido Pozzo. As secretary of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei, it is he who is among those who are directly involved in the talks between the Holy See and the Society founded by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre.
Msgr. Pozzo sees the declaration as no cause for alarm. The allegations of the SSPX are largely "already known". The Curial Archbishop also expressed his [own] conviction that is sharply critical of Pope Francis referring to the Post-Synodal Letter Amoris laetitia, particularly on the issue of remarried divorcees that indeed is "quite controversial."
With regard to canonical recognition, so Pozzo, to the French-speaking news agency I.Media, Bishop Fellay has only brought a "wait and see" attitude.
The declaration is therefore not to be considered as "negative act", which the French daily La Croix also printed, citing Msgr.Pozzo. However, you'll realize that an imminent solution to the problems is not to be expected.
According I.Media and the Internet platform cath.ch of the Swiss Bishops' Conference, talks between Rome and the SSPX will continue after the summer.

I don't know what to make this. What I read on the Remnant's comments section said the communique was hardball and closed the door on Rome. I would like to see Remnant's response to this news. Is it for sure that Archbishop Pozzo said Rome doesn't have a problem with the communique?
No, I've just been making stuff up for a few decades, but I'm sure someone said it.
Or you could be passing along unknowingly an incorrect news report. The media has been known to get things wrong, especially when it comes to the Church.
Whatever you say, kid.
Talks resume after summer? Just wait until the SSPX gets a load of Francis' antics on the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Deformation.
What new antics could possibly shake up the SSPX. They have and we have seen it all. Everything from Assisi to priestesses blessing Cardinals to Popes praying in mosques. If all that didn't push the SSPX away, nothing will.
The SSPX having been operating for years out of the North Vietnamese political tactics manual which they used so effectively at the 'Paris Accords' namely keep fighting while talking.
Eventually, Nixon woke up to them and ramped up the bombing of Hanoi.
This is exactly what Card Mueller will be doing with these examples of tired old European eccentric and exotic tarts from now on.
And wait for the moment the bone headed Calovich has his first independent rational thought.
Yes, and the North Vietnamese ended up winning. You've basically proven that Fellay will be the next pope.
@Ben R: Then thank heavens for "boutique cults"! If it weren't for the SSPX we'd have no Summorum Pontificum. We'd all still be watching priests in burlap chasubles roller-skate their way around the nave to the strumming of the grey-bearded folk group.
The SSPX is like Nigel Farage. In it for the long haul, and gets the job done. Kind of like Ho Chi Minh, too.
No. He just fights dirty and the North didn't win at all. The Americans simply declared victory after their lengthy weapons test and went home until the next weapons test was needed.
Mueller is doing the Vatican equivalent now.
So, Ben, you'd rather stick with Frrancis and his bizarre antics and nearly heretical statements, gestures, overtures, and departures from Catholic and Papal tradition of centuries, rather than side with those that represent the TRUE CHURCH...THE SSPX? I just read a book which stated that the resignation of Benedict XVI and the election of Francis was indeed a planned, manipulate coup by the radicals who felt increasingly threatened that their time was running out with Benedict XVI, and his increasing initiatives towards Catholic tradition, and even Papal vesture.
Having read this, all the more reason I side with the SSPX, and not with Bergoglio.

Wow! You sure get defensive Tancred. Did you take Lawrence's comment as a personal affront?
What a condescending response.
And a lot of us side with Petrus.
Tancred what's gotten into you lately? A lot of uncalled for rude responses.
So you side with evil instead of Christ. Good to hear.
Because that's what it's come down to with this wicked man in the papacy.
Just relieved to have a sede chapel within driving distance---comprised primarily of ex-sspx-ers.

I don't know about the bone head thing. The Doctor did remove a large lump from my back. It contained hair and teeth. The Doc thinks it could have been my unborn twin.
The Conciliar Popes say things that Popes have never said. By insisting the Chair has been vacant for 60 years, you are saying things that Catholics have never said. Careful, you have to be subject to the Roman Pontiff. Ignore them when they deviate from the Faith.
The SSPX is walking a tightrope like the rest of us. It should be obvious that we are being chastised through the clergy. It's up to God and Our Lady to rescue us. Personal judgement puts your soul in danger of damnation.
Long live the SSPX and forget about any deals with Rome!
Come up with better comments, then.
Someone who bases his understanding of the Roman situation with respect to the SSPX on the comment section of a vestigial publication from Wyoming, Minnesota is wasting my time and deserves a good kicking.
Except that there have been heretical popes.
I don't know why Gaybriel keeps returning to insult harmless and kindly people like Steve. I've deleted about sixty or seventy of his comments in the last week. He/She/It must be particularly aroused to do evil since the official recognition of the Society is near.
If anyone is like Ho Chi Minh, it's the current head of the CDF who's own close personal associations were much more devout a Marxist than Bergoglio's clique within leftist Argie circles. Who can say?

He's a terrible pope and no one with any integrity would say otherwise.
If this news report about Msg. Pozzo saying not to worry about the communique is real, then why hasn't this story received attention at Rorate, Remnant, Catholic Herald, Register, Crux and even the world's news media?
I.Media and Lacroix did. Can't help it if they missed it. Oops.
If it's good info, then ok. I don't know why then everyone is saying the talks are over until we get a new Pope. What gives you good reason to think the sspx will be regularized, if I've been reading you right, fairly soon? Thanks.
Talks will resume after Summer, according to Pozzo. I trust him more than some people who have no stake in the matter.
The Neoconservatives, like Register, the Progressives, like Crux, have been saying that the Society is schismatic, evil, etc., for a long time, so long that their regulation would prove them wrong again, it upsets the neat world they've constructed for themselves.
I hold the sede position but the sspx chapel parishioners have in my opinion more in common with us as opposed the novus ordo types.I consider the sspx as friends and brothers.
Irrelevant.
Who runs the Register now? It was the disgraced Legionaries of Christ.Anyway, I pay it no attention in that it is a neocon rag which cheers Francis whatever he does.
I applaude EWTN however, which had a panel discussion program a few days ago hosted by Raymond Arroyo with some other priests and guests. The topic was Catholic marriage and other issues...and everyone completely consemned the opinions of Francis and his people. I was shocked. EWTN used to be a "Whatever you say,Holy Father", station. Not any longer. Which is a great change and wonderful news. If the late, great Mother Angelica was alive, I am sure she would be very disappointed in the direction of the Church, and the Papacy of this heretic Francis and his people.

It's astonishing to me that anyone would sincerely believe that X doesn't happen unless it's reported by the approved sources. Even in this case, where the story is reported by a French, Catholic daily newspaper with a circulation of 100,000 that's been in business since 1880, there are still the overly credulous, who believe that because they heard it from Vatican Insider, Edward Pentin or the Remnant comment section, that it must have happened.
@Steve..This subject has been running through my mind for the past 5 year's.There is a great possibility you're correct and I (sede) am wrong.
With that said,if you think about how Sede's and SSPX operate,we literally are doing exact same thing. We disagree on the Pope and conciliar structure but,we both operate in a traditional Catholic manner outside the official structure and channels.Would you agree or disagree?
Well, I'm another who's skeptical of this supposed statement by Mons. Pozzo. No where else on tradition blogs is this being reported. Rorate Caeli hasn't reported this. And this would back up their first story that the communique wasn't bad at all. But Rorate hasn't said anything about talks resuming in the summer.
Remnant hasn't reported anything about the Mons. Pozzo story. AP, nothing. NYT nothing. Catholic Herald, nothing. Tablet, nothing. Mundabor, nothing. Fr Z, nothing.
Sorry, man, it's not your fault, but you reported a story that was wrong. You just got some bad info.
Rotate can't report everything. We've maintained all along that the talks would continue when almost everyone else, some too cocksure, said they were over for good.
Ho hum.
"Except that there have been heretical popes"
But nothing and nowhere the likes of francis. This here is COMPLETELY unique in Church history.
Rorate could have reported that. So could all of the others I mentioned. In fact, they should have reported the story because it was important news. But anyway, I admit that you were right and I was wrong. Good reporting on your part.
Rorate gets a lot of things right, they have their heads screwed on straight, but they don't get everything.
@Han Pieter: As a Vietnam era Navy veteran with 4 years of shipboard service, I would hate to shake your tree. John XXIII also had a strategy for ending the war. The idea was to make an agreement with the North to allow all Catholics to leave and overburden the South. The result was the collapse of the government system in the South and with it the Catholic government with a brother who was the Archbishop of Saigon.---Infiltrators then riled up the Buddhists and then the Communists moved in.---P. Francis has been reading his history books and is using the same tactic to destroy Western Civilization.
