(Paris) The French Bishop Stanislas Lalanne has said that pedophilia is "evil," but he "could not say" whether pedophilia is a sin. The statements of the bishop were challenged in a protest by a victim's organization. [Why not the vaunted Catholic blogdim, or more importantly, local Catholics.] They said that words of the bishop were "embarrassing" and for the victims, "degrading". [They're not even Catholic.]
"Paedophilia is an evil. But is it a sin? I don't know to decide. It is different for each person. However, it is an evil, and the most important thing to do is to protect the victim or potential victim. "
These were the words the bishop used on the radio station RCF, an association of 63 Christian, francophone radio stations.
Bishop Lalanne took part in a program entitled "The Church of France and pedophilia." The broadcaster addressed the accusations against Cardinal Philippe Barbarin, Archbishop of Lyon, that the office of the prosecutor is investigating the suspicion that he had not precented a priest of his diocese in time from sexual violence.
The Association La Parole Libérée which had drawn attention to the sexual abuse by a priest of the Archdiocese of Lyon, protested today with a declaration on the words of Bishop Lalanne. His statements were "embarrassing" and also "degrading to the victims of pedophilia".
Msgr. Lalanne was born in 1948 in Metz and consecrated a priest in 1975 for the diocese of Versailles. In 1997 he headed the press office at World Youth Day in Paris and later the Pastoral Office of the Diocese of Versailles. In 2007 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. bishop of Coutances and appointed in 2013 as the bishop of Pontoise.

Just...WOW!
ReplyDeleteTalk about convicting yourself with your own words.
This guy bears close watching by French authorities.
**No you moron. Fidelity to Rome is fidelity to the deposit of faith in the catechism. Not the people. **
ReplyDeleteYou mean the catechism that teaches "THE DIGNITY OF THE HUMAN PERSON" and the Virtue of "CHARITY"? The same Catechism that probably forbids calling people "morons"?
**Fidelity to Rome is fidelity to the deposit of faith in the catechism. Not the people. Fidelity to the Chair of Peter. Not a person enthroned who attempts to steer his people away from it.**
The call to "Fidelity"! It started with a few kook priests and Carol McKinley telling people not to follow them, but to follow the local ordinary (Cardinal Law) who carries the authority of Rome here in Boston.
Then they took away Cardinal Law..and replaced him with Bishop O'Malley. Carol Mckinley had high hopes, but soon found out that O'Malley wasn't to Carol's liking. Carol told people, he's only a Bishop...makes sure you are following a Price of the Church...a Cardinal! They are the only ones that carry the authority from Rome....not just any "Bishop".
Then, guess what? They made O'Malley a CARDINAL! (Just like CARDINAL Law! SO he must carry the authority of Rome to Boston, no?)
But...we quickly found out that even a Cardinal Archbishop....a "Prince of the Church" didn't have enough authority for Carol. Now, she claimed "Fidelity" to the Pope...not Bishops, not priests, not Pastors, not Cardinals.
THEN..The pope retires...and is replaced by another Pope. And quickly Carol McKinley finds out that possibly she has been wrong all along...and her claim of "Fidelity" as just a "cover" to follow only her own desires and really not submit to any authority. So much for "Fidelity", eh?
All this talk of "Fidelity"...had to change, because it became clear that she was only Faithful to her own thoughts and ideas. She had "Fidelity" to anyone that agreed with her. With all her blogging and busybody work, she realized onething...that, in effect...SHE wanted to be a pastor, a bishop, a cardinal...SHE wants to be the Pope! The arbiter of what is allowed, what isn't. Carol wants to be the disciplinarian! All this is at odds with someone who claims to follow Spiritual Authority and has "Fidelity".
So we have seen through the veneer of, so called, "Fidelity. (Notice the old "Magisterial Fidelity" blog has gone fallow.) We have already pointed out that this claim of fidelity to the Catechism is flawed as well, calling people names, etc., no talk of charity, respect or the worth of the individual The fidelity to the Catechism is only in effect when she agrees with it.
I don't see any indication that the Catechisms teaching of humility and pride are being adhered to. Do you?
I Think we've pointed out the fallacy of Carol McKinley's "Fidelity".
As far as Magisterial or the Magisterium, Carol here is a refresher course:
"In Catholicism, the Magisterium is the authority that lays down what is the authentic teaching of the Church. For the Catholic Church, that authority is vested UNIQUELY in the POPE and the BISHOPS who are in communion with him."
Sorry Charlie....err...Carol.
Get on thy knees and meditate of the teachings of Humility and Pride.
What's this have to do with Carol? Are you saying that a bishop or pope can teach whatever he wants and it becomes doctrine?
DeleteThe official line handed out at Bishops school is that child rape and other forms of pedophilia by clergy is not a sin, it's a 'moral lapse.' Apparently Matthew 18: 5-6 is not on the curriculum.
ReplyDeleteAnything to get yourself in the centre ring, eh Gaybriel? Oh, and thanks for your Party-provided observations on the Church in Poland. Real valuable.
DeleteWhere is this so-called bishops' school of your imagination, fantasy, dream, or whatever one would call the product of your dirty mind? The rest room at Havana International Airport? Who isn't against pedophilia? Tell us you believe homosexuality and ephebophilia are sins and you might begin to have some credibility.
A lot of bishops outside of Germany, France, Britain, Canada, and the USA have evidently heard the "line" of Christ, not the "official line" of the, let's call them, First World O'Cardinalate, pushing, as you do, McCatholicism.
And a very happy Eastertide to you also.
DeleteWhat is Easter to you, who doesn't believe in Christ's Resurrection, or any other miracle, for that matter?
DeleteWhere have you been?
DeleteI gave up the Internet commenting in the first week of November, kept it up through Lent, and resisted temptation until yesterday. Gaybriel's comment on Polish Catholics is a slam from the pre-Internet days, and I couldn't let the long-stale observation or the slam against the many remaining good bishops pass.
DeleteA report from The Tablet. It seems that Polish Catholic women became so used to having abortions all those years without the availability of artificial birth control methods. Over to you Barnum. Straighten them out.

Polish women walk out of Catholic churches in protest at bishops' call for stricter abortion laws
07 April 2016 | by Josef Pazderka
Poland already has one of the most restrictive abortion laws in Europe and the new plans have infuriated pro-choice groups
Several groups of Polish Catholic women walked out of church services in Warsaw and Gdansk to protest against a proposed tightening of the country’s abortion laws.
A video posted on Facebook shows women leaving Warsaw church of Saint Anna and shouting "scandal" as a priest read out a letter from Polish Catholic bishops in favour of the total ban on abortion. The same church service walkout took place in Gdansk St Mary´s cathedral.
"Every woman, every person has a right to choose. I do not push anyone to make an abortion but I think we cannot simply ban abortion in cases of women in various difficult situations," said one of the Warsaw protesters, Iga Zagrzejewska, to the Polish Gazeta Wyborcza daily.
"We have no right to force this ban on women," said Anna Zawadzka, another woman who walked out of the church service in Warsaw.
Poland already has one of the most restrictive abortion laws in Europe. The country allows the termination of a pregnancy only at an early stage and when it threatens the life or health of the mother, when the baby is likely to be permanently handicapped or when pregnancy originates from a crime such as rape or incest.
In a letter read out in Polish churches on Sunday, however, bishops called for legislative action to tighten this regulation. “Catholics’ position on this is clear, and unchangeable. One needs to protect every person’s life from conception to natural death,” they said. “We ask the lawmakers and the government to initiate the legislation." .............
......... The call of Catholic bishops and the plans of the conservative Polish government infuriated liberal Catholics and women’s rights activists. Some 7000 people protested outside the Polish parliament on Sunday against the plans for a total abortion ban. “Even Iran’s abortion laws are more liberal than this proposal. That’s why we must protest,” said Marta Nowak, one of the protesters at the rally organised by the Polish leftwing Together party.
Official statistics show only a few hundred abortions are performed in Poland every year, but pro-choice campaigners say underground abortions are common.
In last year’s general election the Law and Justice Party became the first party since Poland rejected communism to achieve an overall majority, winning 235 of the 460 seats of the Sejm, the Polish parliament.
They also gained control of the upper house of the Poland’s legislature, taking 61 of the 100 seats in the Senate, in what was seen as a large mandate for their pro-life social conservative agenda.

The Tablet. How AWESOME!!! Wowzers!!!
DeleteYou are really one sad dupe, Gaybriel. Or mayber dupa____, if you know Polish. You seem to know everything else. You should really know better than trotting out this stale tripe for 30 years ago out. But you don't, which is why you keep commenting. Citing the TABLET sanitized, or, so to speak blessed, this nonsense.
The Gazeta Wyborcza newspaper, as far as I recall, or understand, is a socialist newspaper (unlke the "Russki" Pravda, it hasn't changed over the years for a couple of reasons) that is against the Law and Justice Party, and do you notice the lack of numbers- as if numbers justify immorality-- "several groups," "women leaving Sw Anna" (how many? 2? Are they Catholic? Are they even Polish? Did you fact-check? Crunch any numbers? Poland is supposedly X% Catholic, with a population of Y and age distribution of A;B;C;..., 50% of whom are Catholic women. I am not going to teach you the math pretenders like you should have learned in 8th grade or so, or do your work for lazy thinking you, but I will note that it is interesting that you invariably glom onto anti-Catholic and anti-Christian sources of news, even if they call themselves Catholic.
And then there's you favorite: "unsubstantiated assertions" complaint: "pro-choice campaigners say ..." Please write a letter or e-mail message to The TABLET and correct their rhetoric.
BTW, I don't think Iga Zagrzejewska is a true Polish name, at least it is not spelled properly, but if S.Armiticus has time to correct my thinking, fine. In the meantime, Gaybriel, you should really read his blog, a lot of logic lessons you can use to learn to love Christ, His Church, and the Blessed Virgin. Heck, you might even learn to take a shine to women as that is a form or love that is in the nature of things, or at least read Ann Barnhardt and appreciate her.
Gaybriel just can't help himself, he's obsessed with pedophilia.
DeleteAnd he can't help but come to the aid of his fellow vampires, like this French "bishop", and cite completely irrelevant and false claims by malevolent hucksters at the Tablet.
DeleteI invite you both to temper your knee-jerk reactiveness and read the follow. It might just enlighten you:
Deletehttp://www.catholica.com.au/gc4/kt/pdf/CanonLawOnChildAbuseThruTheAges.pdf
Their only confused about it been a sin , when its clergy who commit it ,meanwhile all kinds of sex outside of marriage for consenting adult laity is a sin. There's nothing worse than destroying the innocence of a child or young adult. Is he aware of Christ's words," It were better for him, that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should scandalize one of these little ones ".
ReplyDeleteNot only did the Bishops and religious superiors fail to comprehend that Pedophilia is a sin, but merely a 'moral lapse,' almost en masse they could not recognize it to be a 'crime' in both divine (even the express words of the Lord) and civil law.
Delete"Methinks the 'brave Sir Gaybriel' doth protest doth protest too much..." His comments are show all right, but nowhere near the level of circus.
DeleteLord protect us from such foolishness.
ReplyDeleteWhy in he-- would the SSPX want to join up with a church that will give them bishops like this?
ReplyDeleteIt's laughable and so incredibly sad.
