Archbishop Lorefice Travels With His Bike Through the Presbyterium of his Cathedral |
(Rome) The new Archbishop of Palermo, recently appointed by Pope Francis, Msgr. Corrado Lorefice, swung himself in a bicycle and drove through the presbyterium of his Cathedral.
"Sometimes I ask myself whether certain prelates do not invent these surprises from a mere desire to see if they come into the media and land especially on certain blogs, for example, ours ..." according to the traditional website Messa in Latino.
News and pictures were published by the official website of the Archdiocese of Palermo with the following text:
"Palermo. Primatiale Metropolitan Cathedral of the Assumption, Wednesday, April 27, 2016: Feast of the Athletes. Image: His Excellency Most Reverend Monsignor Corrado Lorefice, Archbishop-Metropolitan, Primate of Sicily, on a bicycle in the chancel of his cathedral..
The Archbishop was given a bike that he didn't want to try outside the church. Instead, he rose immediately and in full regalia as celebrant, chasuble and miter, got on the bike and drove it through the presbytery of his episcopal church. The Cathedral of Palermo is not only where lay the Stauferkaisers Henry VI. and Frederick II. and the Norman King, Roger II. It is above all one of the oldest Christian places of worship in Europe. The area of the Cathedral was secret at the latest in the second century gathering of Christians in underground tunnels. Here the martyrs of the persecution of Christians were buried. The Christians gathered at their graves. In the early fourth century, the construction of the first cathedral was carried out. Under Pope Gregory the Great, the second cathedral was built around 600.
"Ultraprogessive slap"
Biking Archbishop
Msgr. Lorefice belongs to the so-called "compassionate" bishops appointed by Pope Francis. Observers speak of "progressive" appointments.
Born in 1962 in Sicily, he was ordained in 1987 a priest in the Diocese of Noto. On October 27, 2015, Pope Francis surprised with his appoinment as the new primate of Sicily. Last 5 December, the inauguration took place. Officially, church-related media cheered him as a "bishop of a Church of the poor and for the poor". Traditional media, however, spoke of an "ultra progressive slap for conservatives" in the Church.
Lorefice followed Cardinal Paolo Romeo, who made the ominous prediction in late 2011 that Pope Benedict XVI. would die within the year 2012. Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos, of Benedict XVI. taught thereat, in his exposition of the facts of an "assassination plot".
Pop music of Noemi and "School of Bologna"
Lorefice belongs to the progressive "school of Bologna", that historian school, looking at the Second Vatican Council as a "break" with the recent ecclesial tradition and as a "new beginning" in the modern age. Lorefice contributed to this school in a book about Gisueppe Dossetti and Cardinal Lercaro, who were both central figures of the progressive "Rhenish Alliance".
Dossetti was a left Catholic politician, who was consecrated a priest in 1959 consecrated by Cardinal Lercaro priest. Thanks to his political and parliamentary experience, he was the one who steered the Second Vatican Council for the "Rheinische Alliance" from the background. The lever which he used was the Rules of Procedure. Until an incensed Pope Paul VI. forced him to leave Rome.
Lorefice had become, before his appointment, less known because of a clerical draft, but especially because of his unusual sermons on the music of Noemi and other pop singers.
Messa in Latina wrote sarcastically about the Archbishop biking in his church: "Ad perpetuam rei memoriam." The conspicuous drive into the presbyterate seems to proportionally match its desacralization.

'School of Bologna', Ha! How appropriate
Maybe we could use some new(er) Church music as well
All that banjo/guitar stuff from the 1960s is now becoming somewhat 'traditional'
What's next?
Everybody have fun tonight
Everybody Hans Küng tonight
Actually, let them ride bikes rather than offer the Novus Ordo!
All the Liberal and modernists come out boldly and rejoice in pleasing the Pope on earth instead of the Almighty God ! Does he fear the wrath of God for his sacrilegious behaviour ! There was no one in the church to admonish his funny behaviour ? What a shame.
Looks like not much of a turnout for the Mass either.
Friends in Rome have told me that in Rome and in Italy, Pope Francis and his Jubilee Year of Mercy is a total flop.
After Francis' fiasco trip to Greece to bring back Muslims to Italy, it's amazing to learn how much he's hated and reviled by the average faithful Italian Catholics....and by young faithful priests and seminarians and nuns.

Is there a bed in a mental hospital available for this biking bishop?

When you see bishops, succesors of the apostles, driving bikes in the temples, know that the end is near.
Filipos
The General Instruction on the Roman Missal actually warns against this practice, because too many bishops have been getting their albs stuck in the bicycle chain. The albs can tear, and those unsightly grease stains!
Everybody was "Hans Kung" Fu fighting. Their bikes were fast as lightening.
Was there a bell on the bike handle bar that he rang as he went?
This is so laughable, and so pathetically sick that it looks like something they would do in my neighborhood Episcopal "church"....where they celebrate St. Francis of Assisi Blesing of Animals day by giving the dogs, cats and whatever their own "holy communion". Of course in that church nothing is actually consecrated....bu this photo reminds me of some of the antics that happen there!

Yawn. Another attention-seeking arsehole, pardon my French.
Nice, bike, compact frame, two racks, looks like a great way to get around Italy. The fruitcake riding it? Whatever, just another day in Vatican 2 world.
Francis' church is a field hospital, don't you know? This Bishop was chosen personally by the BoR, he was a street priest, in argie cura de calles, hagan lìo.....
And the imbecile next to him is leading the applause.
Maybe if the Archbishop pranced down the aisle in a swim suite or in a tutu for Dancers Day during Francis' Year of Mercy, or in his pajamas, he'd get a bigger round of applause
Damian Malliapalli
It was a little bit frightening ... !
So, if this guy rang the bicycle bell during the consecration, would that make him a traditionalist my modern standards?
haven't thought about that song in years
Some of the lyrics are really accurate:

On the edge of oblivion
All the world is Babylon
And all the love and ev'ryone
A ship of fools sailing on
(Everybody)
Everybody have fun tonight
(Everybody)
Everybody have fun tonight
That's not a racist slur at me Bud, I hope.

He's not a valid priest and definitely not a valid bishop.
Everything is fun and frolic for the modern Bishops even in the place of worship ! There was not even one single person bold enough to push him down from the bike and rebuke him to refrain from indulging in such foolish things . Insulting Almighty God in Public , let him go to a Monastry and spend rest of his life in reparation and Penance. Whole country of Italy must force him to go in exile !
Better to force Pope Francis and his goons into exile. I hope Francis decides to pack it in and retire back to some favela than rims the city of Buenos Aires...you know, a place that fits his style.

1. Why is it that every time something bad is done in a Roman Catholic parish the comparison is made to Episcopalians. I have never actually seen this done in an Episcopal church. It IS being done in a Roman Catholic one, though. Here is the pic!
2. The usual accusation of "Communion for the Animals" seems pretty trite too
3. If you were to compare the local Episcopal parish with the nine RC ones, you would see things very differently from you perception. Let's just say that roles would be quite reversed from what YOU expect.
I hate Vatican II. It's all because of Vatican II.
The desolation in the House of God. And apathetic "Catholics" still defend the monster who appoints such sacriligeous clowns as pastors of the flock of Christ. Perhaps eliminating the prefix "a" from apathetic would describe these traitors best. RC
Hahaha!

This was going on long before V2 my friend!!
The 1951 destruction of Holy Saturday was when it starting becoming 'official'.
If you take the time to learn you will find out the apostasy was starting hundreds of years before V2.
You are totally correct. The Episcopalians, even with all the moral and clerical aberrations they have, do maintain a sense of decorum in their worship and excellent music. They refuse to go all the way to the gutter like the Romans---shame on us! Ex-Episcopalian
When will the desacralization campaign of the bishops ever end? Not any time soon as is evident from the reign of Pope Francis. We are in for a very long, and weary fight, but blogs like this are our only means of resistance.
Well put.
Takes one to know one, evidently.
God willed it all to teach us a lesson.
Prove your assertion otherwise people will rightly form the view that you are just venting and quite irresponsibly so.
It's common knowledge the new rites of ordination/consecration are extremely doubtful.(the new rites changed the matter and form from offering sacrifice to placing a presider over the assembly plus many essential prayers were removed)
A doubtful Sacrament is to be treated invalid.
This is basic Catholic catechism knowledge.
Depends on who is doubting. Every Pope, every head of the CDF, Signatura, Sacraments, Divine Worship have not posed a dubium about the sacramental validity of sacerdotal or episcopal ordinations since the post Vat II revisions of the Rites.
Two other things: neither the Christ Chaos sect, its associates nor the Catechism of the Catholic Church are the Church's Magisterium.
OK we disagree no big deal God bless you
@Cilla I agree with you 100%.I am simply trying to help others understand V2 didn't happen overnight.
Here he goes again with the reports from his network of fellow neurotics.
Go and say some prayers Damian. You're paralysed with resentment and hatred.
A bishop...
Fully vested....
On a bicycle...
In the sancuary...
I think I have had my portion of internet for today.
The new rites are extremely doubtful, that individual is correct.@Angela where is anonymous wrong?Archbishop Lefevre doubted the new rites along with Archbishop DE Castro Meyer!
It belies probability that an unbalanced cleric could muster the equilibrium to employ a two wheeler rather than his tricycle.
Some people at WDTPRS blog said there's no proof the bicycle incident took place at a Mass. Anyone know for sure about that?
Ed Williams
Maybe it was actually during a circus held in the church with a clown dressed up as a bishop riding a bicycle. :)
Of course it was at a Mass! It's exactly the kind of stuff Francis and company would do.
Damian Malliapalli
Not sure, but what difference would that make? He's riding a damn bicycle around in a church, in the house of God Himself. Even if it wasn't during a Mass, which it probably was, this so-called bishop would still be guilty of sacrilege, not to mention making the Church look foolish for all the world to see. What a wicked man.
Those admitted to certain equestrian orders in the Catholic Church's honors system are permitted to ride their horses into Roman basilicas. Condoned, approved, authorized sacrilege?
1 + 1 =\= 4
A horse isn't a toy. And in what you're talking about Joan they wouldn't ride around in circles like a clown in the sanctuary itself while people laugh and clap. Don't even try to justify what this nutball did.
Toys don't crap everywhere. Horses do, even in St Peter's Basilica. Start shovelling.
I didn't say I agree with the horse thing either. What I and everyone else here is saying is that what this man did is totally unacceptable. I guess that went over your head.
Well, there is a huge difference if he rode during a Mass compared to another time. A lot of traditional sites were claiming it was during a Mass, saying he was guilty of profaning the liturgy. Big difference.
At the very least, the traditionalists claiming it was at a Mass need to be very, very sure of that before making claims. I just want the correct information.
Ed Williams
Not everyone one here says what the bishop did was unacceptable. Above, for example, Ed Williams raised the question of whether the photo was taken during Mass. Many have presumed, assumed that it was. It may have just been a photo op silly as it may look.
I guess that went over your head.
What a difference that makes. I guess it's OK then.
All too many people believe that credulity is a supreme virtue.
I didn't say it's necessarily okay, but the church teaches there are varying degrees to sin, if the bicycle incident is even that. So after having had some people say it happened at Mass, now we're not sure it happened at Mass.
As Joan said, there are equestrian orders who have been granted the right to ride into a church on horseback. So the Archbishop desecrated the church by riding on bicycle, but riding a horse into a church is allowed.
Anyway, let's take first things first. You are not sure the Archbishop even rode the bike at Mass. Correct?
Ed Eilliams
I hope you agree that saying
Next time the bishop should us a hover board.
This bit of absurdist street theater has nothing at all to do with the legitimate use of this church, and denigrates its sacred character.
What about the absurd street theatre of Equestrians riding horses into Basilicas? Does that, in your opinion, denigrate their sacred character?
There's a difference between a degenerate art movement of twentieth century and a legitimate religious military order devoted to fighting the rapacious Turk, but I wouldn't expect an effete degenerate of the Bologna School mentality to understand or care about those distinctions.
Reminds me of that old chestnut about how Gospel readings and sermons in local languages were permitted in the vetus ordo, therefore all the disparity and abuses of the Novus Ordo Missae are actually no big deal (and how dare you criticize the Holy Spirit at work in a puppet Mass you bitter, neopelagian, rigorist).
Even worse is the belief that the Church has no enemies either internal or external.
When someone has the answer about whether the Archbishop rode a bicycle at Mass, then please let us know. For now, the people who condemned him for supposedly riding a bicycle at Mass haven't offered evidence to prove that he did.
Even if he did, it's up to proper church officials, not us, to decided if what he did was even sinful, given the church's teachings on sin and intent.
Ed Williams
If you don't think this is a sognificant problem regardless, you have some serious problems of your own.
Mass or not, doesn't matter.
Can anyone imagine Mgr Lefebvre on a bike? No. Or Bishop Fellay? Or Bishop Scheider? No. Or Cardinal Cipriani Thorne? No. Or Cardinal Ottaviani? No. Or Pope Benedict XVI? No. Or Mr Bergo ... Probably.
The Arsebishop of Palermo remains that, an arsehole.
All this talk about "proper church officials" determining what is there for all to see is sad, pathetic, and symptomatic of the willful blind. Nothing can convince them of the apostasy right in front of their noses---so they recur to pious talk about proper authority and whether what is photographed really happened. How tragic, and undignified, the plight of the clericalist fool. He will have to answer to God for his dishonesty and lack of Christian fortitude. Edmund
Charming.
It is true what you say that it started before VII. But VII is the first non dogmatic council in the history of the church. Where it confirms that which is already defined it is correct. The rest is rotten fruit. Rotten to the core.
Voilà, madame. C'est moi, tout simple. Charmant.👍
mój Boże!
