Edit: since turning 80, the Cardinal is no longer papabile, but that doesn't mean they won't bend the rules to accommodate him. We've been keeping track for over 1,000 days, according to Maxamilian Hanlon. Isn't it wonderful how time flies?
Still, they let +++Kasper vote after missing the statutory date by a week and he isn't even Catholic.

DEO GRATIAS!!!!!!!!
A great day for the Church!
He's still alive, he could repent. I will say a prayer for him.
Considering that our pope is pushing 80 and seems to have a soft spot in his heart, admiration even, of very old liberals, I would not count this cardinal out of the playing field quite yet.
Put not your trust in princes: in the children of men, in whom there is no salvation. His spirit shall go forth; and he shall return unto his earth: in that day all their thoughts shall perish.
Praise the Lord, O my soul!
Off the subject. MAX Hanlon check out on the net.. Rahee Castle, Co.Antrim, Ireland. Your O Hanlon ancestors were it's occupants till 1410, Interesting story. From book by Notre Dame professor entitled Ghosts in Irish Houses@1980.

Good rid-dins to that damn countdown!
Good riddens. A rotten, heretical piece of sh1t.
Excuse me, o most learned ones of the combox, I don't even know anything ABOUT this Cardinal. I kept seeing his name on the right hand side of the page and the "countdown" and then, finally, on the 27th Feb. went to Google to find out exactly who he was and what he had done! That really didn't help much. Could anyone please enlighten this ignorant old lady about this person? Thank you. PS I am not of the Roman Catholic Faith - but come in as Coptic Orthodox. I hope you will still talk to me now that you know this. PPS I don't understand one half of all this SSPX and other abbreviations used for, I presume, sections within the R.C. Church. All I know is that the Bishop of Rome has accrued - deservingly - a very bad reputation amongst those who consider themselves faithful Catholics! Personally, I find him and his entourage perfectly unattractive, both in their appearance, manner and speech. Unlike the well-groomed and gentle looking Pope Benedict who appeared to comply with regulation
dress requirements at all times!
Hi! He's a former scourge of traditionalists in Los Angeles. A purveyor of liturgical novelties, protector of predator clergy and deeply uncomfortable with Pro-Life initiatives, except for the most perfunctory. At one point, Mother Angelica said that if she were in his Diocese her obedience would be 0. Well, after that, EWTN suffered a great reversal and really hasn't been the same since. Old Liberal deapots like Mahony certainly love to talk about tolerance, but acting on it is hard to do when they encounter legitimate criticism..
He gloated visibly and publicly when Pope Benedict resigned.
They're sticklers for the rules when it comes to people they don't like, i.e. Catholics.
That too.
Look at this clown dressed in red, he's not even Catholic (by his public statements) much less a prince of the Church. Maybe for his own sake he can still repent but with all the damage he's done, not sure.
We should pray for his conversion & moral/spiritual well being.
Miracles happen!
actually he is still papabile he just can't vote in any future election. of course, he was never a likely candidate, not because he is so far to the left--there are many members of the Sacred College even more left than he is--but because he is a US citizen and that would be a problematic for the credibility of the Holy See in world situations.
The term doesn't have a strict definition.

Sorry, but this is incorrect (unfortunately!). Cardinal Kasper did not turn 80 until 5 March 2013 - whereas the conclave rules stipulate that Cardinals under 80 on the day before the See of Rome becomes vacant (ie 27/2/13) are eligible to vote. And vote, sadly, he did.

Thanks for that.
Good idea. He's Catholic, in name only.
All of us are sinners. It will be Jesus who decides Cardinal Mahoney's fate.
