Edit: Cardinal Burke, who has a lot of time on his hands after being fired by the Pope from his position at the Apostolic Signatura was still in a position to do some a lot of good by saying the Immemorial Mass of All Ages in a historic event at one of the most evil parishes in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. The event was to take place at 10:00 in the morning on Saturday, September 19th at St. Mary's Basilica in Minneapolis. After making some inquiries we have no reason why the Holy Mass was cancelled, except that perhaps the rector and the Devil himself don't approve of it.
In addition to the possible disapproval on the part of the questionable leadership at the parish, things are especially bad recently in the Archdiocese as a whole, since one of the Cardinal's confreres, the faithful Archbishop John Nienstedt, has been hounded from his position as Archbishop owing to the all-too-familiar media blitzkrieg and a host of disloyal elements among his clergy and even his own chancery.
Perhaps the reason is the evil reputation of the Basilica itself?
When they're not prostituting themselves to the zeitgeist, promoting deviancy at various fairs and events, surely leading souls into Hell, they're probably the most singular anti-Catholic presence in the Archdiocese as a locus of dissent and disobedience.
The place needs to be reconsecrated anyway, in our humble opinion.
The Immemorial Mass was to be celebrated in the context of an event sponsored by the Knights ofMalta of the Holy Sepulcher meeting, which will hold some events at the Basilica, which is somewhat understandable since Cardinal Burke is the Patron of the Order of Malta another equestrian order. [Hence our initial confusion that these people were Knights of St. John (Malta).] What doesn't make sense is why an equestrian society of Catholic gentlemen would associated themselves with the evil St. John's Bible and the Faux-Benedictines of Collegeville. One of the events in the bulletin so kindly provided by a reader shows:
"Artist as Preacher" - Presentation of St. John's Bible -
Rev. Eric Hollas, OSB, KHS
Father Hollas' biography reads as follows from Collegeville's website:
One of the principal problems with the bible, apart from the false claims surrounding it, and its price tag, is the calligrapher, who is himself an atheist.

I'm 100% sure, and I don't see it on that itinerary.
Its the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, Knights and Ladies, gentlemen, NOT Malta, holding their regional gathering. The proposed Pontifical Mass was not associated with the EOHSJ meeting.
Oh, "Knights" Templar, then. Whoops.
The Holy Father, during his visit to Washington, will give a present of one of the original hand-written St John's Bible to the nation for the Library of Congress- estimated worth is $7 million. I don't see what difference the atheism of the calligrapher makes. All through Catholic history, art and architecture and music have been done my atheists and heretics as artisans.
Apart from the drug induced and bizarre illustrations, the NRSV translation is an abomination.
But more important is that the "bible" is a paid advertisement for modernist Faux-Benedictine Monastery at Collegeville, and this "equestrian" order is endorsing that Monastery and its school by giving a platform for this ridiculous project of theirs.
The Mass with Cardinal Burke was planned and coordinated by Una Voce of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Fr. Bauer and his staff were most supportive and helpful and not deserving of any criticism in this regard.
This response isn't very helpful in meaningfully answering why Cardinal Burke's celebration of the real Mass at the Lavender Basilica was cancelled, however?
Anonymous,
You sound knowledgeable. Educate us with 5 examples each of atheists in Catholic art, architecture, and music before the 20th century.
We are working to find a substitute and the Basilica is holding the spot for us. We have someone who is willing to celebrate the traditional liturgy and all that is needed are a couple final details to be worked out on his end before we can announce that a Mass will take place. So regardless the Basilica is willing to let us have the Mass and we are grateful to them for that.
Hey, maybe they'll get you a Time Life version of the St. John's Bible before it hits the 70% off rack at Barnes and Noble?
There will be a Mass in the traditional Dominican Rite on Saturday September 19th at 10 a.m at the Basilica. The celebrant will be Fr. David Holtz O.P. who is currently a professor at the Angelicum
