Edit: a friend sent us this photo. It's the recently elected Polish President, Andrej Duda who catches a falling Host and reverently hands it back to the priest.
We'd reported earlier that he'd began his presidency by making a pilgrimage go Our Lady of Czestochowa and asking for Her assistance.
When one thinks of all the sacrileges committed by America presidents over the years, including unworthy reception of Holy Communion, seeing a man who believes and is a political figure fills us with hope.

ReplyDeletePrezydent Duda does not let the grass grow under his feet or sleep at Mass! God bless him, his family, ancestors and descendants included, and Poland!
ReplyDeleteBTW, the beautiful Communion song is "Dzisiaj Jezu," a very beautiful song, like most Polish liturgical music. If you are in a big city and near a parish with a Polish Mass, try going.
Communion in the hand...no,no,no,no.
ReplyDeleteRreceiving in your hand may be frowned upon but to leave the true Body of our Lord lying on the grown wiuld be a true sin. GOD BLESS THIS MAN !
DeleteIf I didn't know about the pilgrimage to start his position but since he did do that, it tells me everything about this man. Certainly this is a sign, he is predestined for some defense of the faith.
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify, I too agree, if Holy Communion had been distributed properly on the tongue as it should be this would not have happened but that he saved it from hitting the floor must mean something positive. I look for signs because they are signs indeed
ReplyDeleteIn Poland Communion is generally distributed on the tongue - unfortunately standing not kneeling, but nevertheless the communion on the tongue is the most popular way in the country.
ReplyDeleteLord, watch over this man- anyone with enough faith and piety becomes a giant target for the enemy. We don't have any shortages of them.
ReplyDeleteFear and humility- they will allow us to submit ourselves to God's will, and through Christ and Our Lady and all the Saints, we shall have victory.
God bless Poland, God bless president Duda.
He could have just smirked and pointed out the fallen Host to one of his security-men to pick up, or having picked It up himself he could have handed It to his aide...... but instead he delivered It, reverently and unselfconsciously, into the hands of the priest. This is the most heart-warming thing I've seen in a while.
ReplyDeleteJust a point in fact, we were taught back in the late fifties to never touch a fallen Host with our hands, that it could be covered with a white cloth for protection (I assume by an altar server) to mark the Host's location until the PRIEST could retrieve it. Made sense then and also now. He should not have touched it but could have stood guard over it. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteThat's absolutely true, but he doesn't appear to have been trained that way.
DeleteIt's not a church setting either so the wind could have blown it more. I do agree in ideal situation a purficator to be used. I've only seen it happen once and a TLM.
DeleteWell, yes, he should have at least picked it up with his handkerchief or something, but at the spur of the moment (and a priest wasn't at the spot, he had to walk to one) I think he showed more reverence than most people. It also isn't something that is widely taught, so... I'm not going to hassle him.
DeleteYou were taught that, but for the ideal situation: communion rail, altar boy with a paten, and communion on the tongue. What we are all arguing about is how to deal with the situations no longer controlled because Modernist churchmen threw out common sense, developed through a combination of experience, tradition, and the rational, and the ideal of God's Creation.
DeleteI meant the anonymous guy talking about the 50s.
DeleteI think so too Maria. It's true that yes, you throw a hankerchief or a cloth over the host once it's fallen and on the ground, but in mid air you just let it fall? To tell you the truth, I myself am confused about how to properly handle that one, but regardless it was a wonderful sign of respect and protection of Jesus in the Eucharist, something quite refreshing to see in this day and age when so many do not believe in the real presence..
DeleteAnd, I can't help but think that Jesus was appreciative.
DeleteOk, here I go shooting my mouth off when I hadn't yet watched the video. Didn't realize that he picked it up 'from the ground', somehow I thought he 'caught' it mid air. Sorry. Still, I do believe he was showing respect and reverence for not wanting Jesus to lay on the ground, right or wrong. And I still believe Jesus was appreciative of the gesture. He seems to be a humble man. God Bless him.
DeleteRe post at 4:42-there is always some perfectionist to take issue with any action. You seem like a real pain in the butt.
ReplyDeleteSo many things in these times are far from perfect, but obviously there's room for hope, as this sincere and unscripted demonstration of piety demonstrates.
DeleteI agree 100% Tancred!
DeleteWell, at least he made a better job of it than President Jaruzelski would have! I'm sure we can all rejoice in that. I don't know anything about him and I guess Poland is becoming more secular, but what a hero anyway!
ReplyDeleteReceiving Holy Communion
ReplyDeleteI have read many articles on face book and the internet about receiving holy communion.
So here is my respond.
I receive Communion on my tongue all my life (I am 73) but within the last year or so, twice two different priests missed my tongue and the hoist fell to the floor. I swooped down and picked up the hoist and consumed it, before the priest could do anything. The Holy Spirit must have moved me to do this as I cannot bend down very easy as my back and knees have arthritis and it very hard for me to bend down and pick something up. It is still in my heart to receive on my tongue and I am compiled to do so.
But I must say, one time when I took communion to the nursing home and was giving it to a deacon. He took communion on the hand, then he asks me which was the correct way to receive communion, on the hand or on the tongue. I felt the Holy Spirit inspired me to say, “It is what is in your heart that counts”.
Another time I was a Eucharistic minister during mass and I was giving out the Hoist. As I look at each person receiving communion, I felt that each one no matter how they received the Hoist that they were receiving Jesus with great love.
So who am I to judge as the church allows us to receive Holy Communion on the tongue or in the hand.
May God grant us peace and the grace to receive Jesus with Holy Love. 06/09/15
What's in the heart is not enough! That is the subjective view. The objective fact is that the Host is Jesus, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. FACT, not emotion of the heart is key. No one should touch the Sacred Species except the priest who has consecrated hands.
DeleteI'm afraid you are trivialising Anonymous 9.53's (beautiful) comment. He didn't say anything about emotion, he spoke of the love of the heart.
DeleteYou say that only the consecrated hands of the priest should touch the Sacred Species. This is presumably a private opinion of yours, as the Church disagrees with you.
It's more a case of empty head or evil heart.
DeleteNotice the "who cares" look on the other people's faces. They saw the Host too and did nothing.
ReplyDeleteGod bless the President of Poland.
Let's not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. I found the video very uplifting. The fact that he was kneeling while others were sitting speaks volumes as well.
