(Munich) Archbishop Reinhard Marx of Cardinal of Munich and Freising was interviewed for the March issue of the French Jesuit journal Etudes. In it he says that the Church needs "Renaissance" and not "Reconquista." At the Synod of Bishops of the cardinal spoke of an "open Synod" on the family, because "the teaching office may continue to develop."
"We do not need religious entrepreneurs, but witnesses of both genders," says the President of the German Bishops' Conference (DBK) and a member of the C9 Cardinal Council to advise Pope Francis. The Italian translator of the interview for Vatican insider who knew what to do with the German gender-speech, translated the site with "Zeugen und Zeugnisses."[Inclusive language for the word witness has no English equivalent.]
"An important step toward reaching people is the step towards self-evangelization," said the most powerful German prelate dialectically. The Chairman of the President of the European Bishops' Conferences COMECE also said: "We ourselves as a church must read the Gospel again and again and learn to live with it."
"The term 'New Evangelization' gives me problems"
The term "new evangelization" is a concept, said the Cardinal, which causes him "problems". "I admit that I 'have my problems with the concept of the new evangelization. It could be confused with the model of a spiritual, Reconquista,' as it is a question of reconquering lost ground. But it's not about restoration or repetition of what once was, but a new beginning, a new approach, in a new situation. And it is not simply a communication problem. This would mean that if we had more people and more money and more media coverage, we could achieve the goal. I can accept very well the concept but if it is to emphasize that we do have, not only in Europe, but as a whole, in a new situation for the faith and we must respond with renewed thinking. Actually, this is really a process that the whole Church goes through throughout history. The Gospel is always new, Ecclesia semper iuvenescens, the Church is always young, so the Church Fathers have said.
Because with "many concepts and discussions about new evangelization, I have the impression that many think: The great history of Christianity lies behind us and ahead of us is an insecure and rather frightening future. So you can not evangelize in any case," said the cardinal.
The Church can bring the Gospel " forth in all fields of human activity, thought, adding value to commerce, continuity, and questions to think about. The cultural workers, politicians, philosophers and artists are open to conversations and meetings. I experience this again and again. But in our words, actions, in our liturgy, public appearance, and in the specific pastoral care on site it must be visible through the quality of our work. I think in this context often of the term "Renaissance". Yes, I believe in a renaissance of the Christian faith, but it is a long way of deep religious and spiritual renewal," said Archbishop Marx of Munich.
Synod: "Will Decide the Future Prospects of the Church in the Field of Marriage, and Family"
At the Synod of Bishops on the family the cardinal said, "Clearly on one side, great expectations were awakened while fears were aroused on the other side. All this has been shown during the discussion in the Synod Hall and in the working groups. The Holy Father has made it clear once again in his closing speech, just how much he has also appreciated and desired open debate. This is an important step forward. For particularly in the field of marriage and family the future prospects of the Church will be decided. It is too early for an appraisal. After one Synod, there is another Synod! "
The Pope, according to Marx, "guarantees unity with tradition and the Church's unity internally. But that is why it is necessary to openly argue with each other in a spiritual way about the future path of the Church in these existential questions that clearly touch almost all people and all the faithful." "Of course you have to make sure that it will not be a political-tactical process. I do not know if we have always avoided this. It requires a fundamental openness and a real confidence to find common ground. There may indeed be no winners and losers at the end of a synodal path, but all need each other to try and think of others and our new common steps going into the future," said Cardinal Marx.
"Doctrine of the Church must Develop"
Basically the DBK- President described the family Synod like this: "In teaching, the Church must indeed develop without giving up its position, but throughout the entire history of the Church, its dogma is still developing and has been deepened. This is also true with regard to marriage and family. So there is no end point for the search for truth."
The "open society" is at this moment of time "yet, is also progress in the gospel. So the question is not whether the majority share in our opinion, but whether we are also a pluralistic society that still has something to say to our way of life and our thoughts and many can win the way for many to follow the Gospel in the fellowship of the visible Church" said Cardinal Reinhard Marx for Etudes .
The complete German translation of the interview was published by the German Jesuit journal Stimmen der Zeit.

If one wants a perfect example as to why the Catholic Church is in collapse all around the world, look no further than Cardinal Marx. Openly and without any fear or reservations, he professes modernists views.
It's difficult to understand how Marx ever became a Cardinal, much less a parish priest, with the views he holds. For all of the goodwill Benedict received, he still raised this man to prince of the Church along with many others who hold questionable views (Tagle for one).
My only hope is that this too shall pass, but it feels as if this period will be a long one. In the past, a pope would have removed a man like Marx for holding these views, but no more. Now, they hold positions closest to the popes.
Shame is the only word that comes to mind, shame and utter disbelief a prince of the Church no less.
What the cardinal is reported to have said in the article almost made me cry. So, "there is no end point for the search for the truth"? What blasphemy! Our Lord spoke the truth once and for all. The Church has always had the Truth. I really believe that Marx and his ilk do not believe in God.
It sounds like he is actually nervous about the Church growing. Why can't we have Church leaders who want the Church to grow? How did this man become an Archbishop and a Cardinal?
To paraphrase Bunyan: Why, if it be as ye say, Kardinal Marx, I can drink, and whore, and contracept, and gay marry, and defy the Pope.
Maybe it's a postwar German thing. Wasn't Fr. Ratzinger a little speculative and innovative before he grew up at the CDF? And Fr. Mueller? Maybe Pope Benedict figured that Fr. Marx would similarly grow up. Too bad the Pope won't such an appointment would solve a lot of problems, not the least psychological and emotional.
No repetition! NO! Self evangelization! Just like any protestant community....all are welcome and can be comfortable in their sin; isn't that the mercy of Jesus....oh, wait....
The Germans were brainwashed after WWII and the only an answer for them now is to leave the EU and NATO in order to rediscover a sense of nationhood.
"We do not need religious entrepreneurs..."
What does that even mean?
His tolerance of heresy in his appointees is proof that Benedict was part of the problem rather than the solution. He just wasn't as bad as his predecessor or his successor.
The “new evangelization” is simply this: “Faith alone and once saved always saved. Go sin with gusto as Luther said.” The Satanists in the New World Order are merging the RCC and the Protestant denominations into one through various Ecumenical front groups like the National Council of Churches, and the Pope is going to be the central head of all churches which the NWO will legally allow to exist, and all will be required to teach that sin cannot ever possibly damn anyone. That’s what all this is about. Because the concept of grave sin actually damning people stands in the way of their agendas, like for example promoting you know what and chipping everyone wit the mark of the beast.
Why do you guys call this "modernism"? That's too soft. Its the New World Order agenda...can't you see that?
I mean for crying out loud the New World Order in Latin on the back of your dollar bill is Novus Ordo Seclorum. Your new mass is Novus Ordo. There's a book out called Pope Francis: Pope for a New World. How much more does it have to be spelled out?
He means people who are successful at spreading the Gospel - fishers of men. He would rather expand the Gospel so that it encompasses more men. The Gospel is no longer the net - it has become the sea itself.
O_O
Is it just me or does anybody else think that Marx looks like Jabba the Hut?
Because "New World Order" is a term that belongs to conspiracy sites that are often linked to white supremacist groups like Stormfront who believe that the Jews, the Freemasons, the Illuminati, and the Catholic Church (Opus Dei, Jesuits, Knights of Malta) are involved in a conspiracy to bring about the end of the world by bringing the economy down and trampling on the U.S. Constitution. God bless America.
More like an even more well-fed and debauched Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Very true, but the iron grip of globalism won't permit, sort of a bloody struggle, any defections from the EU or NATO.
David, no criticism intended, but you are a bit behind the times! The agenda of which you speak was put in place in the early 1960's and has largely been achieved. The next and considerably more difficult goal is the synthesis of Christianity with one of the other major religions. The global planners haven't yet decided which one to go for, but I suspect Buddhism is their favorite. Of course my armchair theorizing could be widely incorrect and the real aim of the 'planners' is the complete elimination of Christianity. The support given to militant and resurgent Islam would indicate that at least one faction of the globalists favor Islam as their chosen tool to destroy Christianity.
yeah, I see it.
St. Paul wrote about Carldinal Marx in 2nd Timothy 3:6-7 "For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with diverse lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."
And to think that great conservative hero 'saint' benedict who is in luv w/tradition is the one who made this apostate freak Bishop of Munich Frieburg (benedict's old see) and then 'elevated' him to cardinal (the youngest cardinal at the time who will be voting for popes thru 2033).

This is really pretty scary! When Satan doesn't even need to hide anymore, we are in REALLY DEEP DU DU!!!...........Like MEGA DEEP!!
It seems to me I've read that they want to ultimately replace Christianity with a 'One World Religion' that isn't really any of the major religions. More like a glorified 'Secular Humanism'. But I guess that theory is neither here nor there.
@TLM, Satan still has to hide where there is no hierarchy to force you to accept him. Like in the church of Christ, where everyone is a layman and none can impose any nonsense from the top down, you will not find this kind of nonsense.
I presume that's a rhetorical question. He was made a bishop and Cardinal precisely because of his apostasy, his rejection of God's Commandments, the doctrine of His Holy Church, and his promotion of evils.
If he had the holy fear of God, he could not defy Him and promote apostasy and evil. He knows no truth.
So when are the Sedavanticists going to declare the canon laws which require cardinals to be the ones who vote for the pope to be null and void, and hold a papal election with all the Sedavanticist priests and bishops doing the voting, so that they can cease to be Sedavanticists and get themselves a pope? You can't stay without a pope forever, so this has to happen eventually....so what's the holdup?
Go be a troll somewhere else.
So you're going to let heretical Rome have a pope but the true RCC as you see it languish in popelessness? Surely there's someone who feels that's a bad idea.....anyone? (Crickets)
This is another one of those empty talks from the last 50 years of modernism in the Church. Cardinal Marx words are just empty and useless talk. He doesn't like the idea of "Reconquista" which means Reconquer, here he is clearly pointing to Conservatives and Traditionalists. Since we must all accept Vatican ll, then its high time we declare our rights to "Active participation". We must demand that Rome recognize the voice of Conservatives and Traditionalists in the name of Active participation "mandated" by Vatican ll. We need to play them at their own game, for the "Reconquista" of Christ's Church. We need a much useful official force to represent those faithful to Christ's Church to lambast our demands in the Name of Christ at the Vatican. Pope Francis would be happy, as he himself said he likes and welcomes criticism. Lets give him the benefit of the doubt that he really means what he said.

Anonymous, I am one who does not agree with the principles of Sedevacantism. But I do admire their practice of the Holy Faith. I honestly believe if they join forces with us we will become stronger. Perhaps their Sedevantism will have the effect of a greater respect for the Office of St. Peter. We have to admit, with Pope Francis much respect for the Petrine Office established by Christ has been lost. If we all join forces recognizing our differences, and accepting we may be right or wrong on some issues. Then we have the potential of becoming one great army for Jesus and Mary against modernism.
Andrew
The pope has very little to do with in regards to who becomes a bishop. It's usually done through some nonsensical bureaucratic process. It's been like that for at least 35 years. Cardinals however are different story.
Benedict XVI had a modernist mind and a traditional heart. If you understand that simple fact then his whole entire papacy will make sense.
Some are more equal than others and there is no hierarchy in Hell.
Anon 2:04,
I used to be a protestant and went through many sects (baptist, adventist, non-denominational, etc.) and I can affirm that you are wrong, dead wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong... wrong!
There's even more crazy "nonsense" in protestantism (especially the non-denominational sects) than there are in the modern Catholic Church that got taken over by modernists 50 years ago. You still have a "social hierarchy" with cliques in congregations where "everybody is a layman", whenever a big doctrinal fight breaks out people just separate and from a new "church". This one small town I know of had 1 baptist church in the 1970's, it now has 12 and the population has barely risen. Many protestant sects unknowingly teach Freemasonic dogma, in fact atheist governments (e.g. Mexico during its Freemasonic revolution) brought in protestants to destroy the Church. The KGB in the early 90's exposed that the CIA was funding protestant missionaries to Russia in order to expose them to the "capitalist ethos".
Oh yeah and crazy liberal protestantism is dominating across the world. In the USA you have famous woman preachers selling books and selling out stadiums, crazy liberal books by Zondervan dominating book sales, preachers preaching that hell doesn't exist and everyone will be saved or will "go to sleep" and horrifically liberal bible translations like the NIV.
I also have lots of experience around Muslims, they have no bishops or centralized governing body (a "church of laypeople" if you will) and they to have splintered into many crazy sects, many of them liberal and modernist.
Hi Anon 12:33, Anon 2:04 here. Re-read what I said. I didn't say "Protestants." Protestants have hierarchy too, the pastor being the local pope. And all the same liturgical abuses you find in the new mass are engaged in by Protestants precisely because they don't stick strictly with scripture in their services. They've got liturgical dance, bands, etc. If everyone were a layman seeking to go only by scripture as in the church of Christ, rather than saying "leave it up to the experts" i.e. the hierarchy, the pastors, then these abuses wouldn't exist. That was my point.
A church where everyone is a layman? I studied the Bible and early Church history and such a thing never existed in Christianity, especially in the time of the apostles.
The Church is Hierarchical
The Church has bishops which are successors of the apostles, they have the power to forgive sins and the power to bind and loose.
"Take heed to yourselves, and to the whole flock, wherein the Holy Ghost hath placed you bishops [episkipos], to rule the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." Acts Of Apostles 20:28
"Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I also send you. When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost. Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained." John 20:22,23
"Jesus saith to Simon Peter: Simon son of John, lovest thou me more than these? He saith to him: Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: Feed my lambs... Feed my lambs... Feed my sheep" John 21:15-17
"And I say to thee: That thou art Cephas; and upon this cephas I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven." Matthew 16:18,19
The Church is Authoritative and is the Pillar of Truth
"And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican." Matthew 18:17
"... behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth." 1 Timothy 3:15

The Palmarian Catholic Church, Pope Michael and a host of other sedevacantists elected their own pope. The CMRI and SSPV/SGG are very small in lay people and priests and are primarily found in the USA so they wouldn't have a strong claim to the throne, they would be on the same level as the Palmarians if they elected their own pope.
I haven't seen a sedevacantist answer your question, at best I've seen Fr. Cekada dance around the issue. It's a shame because it's arguably the biggest argument against the thesis and the reason why people wont convert to sedevacantism.
I certainly was not promoting Sedevantism. What I was trying to say is that they hold to the same Catholic Faith as we do, And despite our differences we could certainly join as one army for Truth.
