Edit: Pope Francis has just announced who his appointments will be at today's Angelus, surely on a day where news isn't common. Neither the expected favorite, nor Arcbishop Chaput. In fact, there are no appointments at all from the United States, only one from the Curia and some fairly obscure appointments from the "developing world". In fact, there are only four voting cardinals from Europe, and all of them are from Latin countries.
Archbishop Edoardo Menichelli has already submitted his resignation to the Holy See on October 15th of last year.
The really interesting one is the Archbishop of Addis Abada in Ethiopia.
+++Moraglia of Venice is out again as well.
They are, according to Vatican Radio:
Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura
Archbishiop Manuel José Macario do Nascimento Clemente, Patriarch of Lisbon (Portugal)
Archbishop Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel, C.M., of Addis Abeba [sic] (Ethiopia)
Archbishop John Atcherley Dew of Wellington (New Zealand)
Archbishop Edoardo Menichelli of Ancona-Osimo (Italy)
Archbishop Pierre Nguyên Văn Nhon of Hà Nôi (Viêt Nam)
Archbishop Alberto Suàrez Inda of Morelia (Mexico)
Archbishop Charles Maung Bo, S.D.B., of Yangon (Myanmar)
Archbishop Francis Xavier Kriengsak Kovithavanij of Bangkok (Thailand)
Archbishop Francesco Montenegro of Agrigento (Italy)
Archbishop Daniel Fernando Sturla Berhouet, S.D.B., of Montevideo (Uruguay)
Archbishop Ricardo Blázquez Pérez of Vallodolid (Spain)
Bishop José Luis Lacunza Maestrojuán, O.A.R., of David (Panamá)
Bishop Arlindo Gomes Furtado, of Santiago de Cabo Verde (Archipelago of Cape Verde)
Bishop Soane Patita Paini Mafi of Tonga (Island of Tonga)
“Additionally, I will join to the Members of the College of Cardinals five Archbishops and Bishops Emeriti who are distinguished for their pastoral charity in the service of the Holy See and of the Church. They represent so many Bishops who, with the same pastoral solicitude, have given witness of love for Christ and for the people of God in particular Churches, in the Rome Curia, and in the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See.
“They are:
José de Jesús Pimiento Rodriguez, Archbishop Emeritus of Manizales
Archbishop Luigi De Magistris, Major Pro-Penitentiary Emeritus
Archbishop Karl-Joseph Rauber, Apostolic Nuncio
Luis Héctor Villaba, Archbishop Emeritus of Tucumán
Júlio Duarte Langa, Bishop Emeritus of Xai-Xai

Interesting. Nobody from Africa. Perhaps the Africans are too conservative for Pope Francis.
I think Ethiopia is in Africa
If Francis had elevated the heretic and gay lover Bruno Forte, there would have been outrange in the Vatican Curia, in Italy, and around the world.
The one good man who he could have named, in Venice, Italy, is still very young (61) so God willing, he still has time.
LOL!!!! Charlie Chaput didn't get the red hat. Boo Hoo Hoo! Mr. "Neo-con" Catholic was cheated :)
Good riddance. As a member of the Philadelphia Archdiocese, I can say that he is a very, very unpopular archbishop. And this goes for priests and laity. He is greatly resented for the alterations he did to the Basilica of SS Peter and Paul in Philadelphia, and is literally hated for all the closed parishes, schools, institutions, and the suppression of the 100+ year old archdiosecean newspaper, "The Catholic Standard and Times".
The archdiosecean seminary, Saint Charles Borromeo, a huge imitation Italian Baroque building which in its pre-Vatican II glory had close to 600 seminarians today has only 45 for Philadelphia itself, but another 100 from other dioceses to help keep the place open. He wants to welcome the heretical Noecatcmenical Way seminarians to St. Charles, in a bid to keep the place open (the huge philosophy/college building will probably go up for sale). It would be wonderful if a group of faithful Catholics bought it, then gave it to the SSPX!!!
Little Charlie is probably crying right now that he didn't get his red hat. So are Blaise Cupich and Bruno Forte. LOL! I hope they never see red.
Francis may not be around for another round of red.
Sub-Sahara Africa I meant. The Church in Sub-Sahara Africa is very conservative. I am not sure about the church in Ethiopia.
It's hard to see any of these appointments as good news. It looks like Bergoglio is moving quickly to change the ideological makeup of the College. I've long thought that was his game plan. Appoint as many modernists as possible, receive the adulation of the world's press for his openness, retire at 80, and allow Francis II to call VIII.
We're close to that point already. Passing over Moraglia for a second time sends a message to the conservatives and traditionalists that their time is over. There are still good choices like Ranjith, Burke, Bagnasco, Piacenza, and a few others, but there's now ZERO chance the Bergoglio Cardinals will ever allow someone like them to be pope. They'll do to them what was done to Siri in 1978.
While I tend to agree with your sympathies I find your language towards Bishop Chaput to be sinfully abusive. My opinion does not matter. Visit the confessional of a real Catholic priest and find out for yourself.
He wants the ones from the peripheries who smell like the sheep and give communion to adulterers/cohabitators/homosexuals.
You can tell which Archbishop is blatantly liberal by his pectoral cross.
This was a brilliant political move by Francis. He avoided choosing Cardinals that would cause controversy while stacking the College with liberals. By not giving the red cap to the Patriarch of Venice he spat in the face of every traditionalist and conservative in the Church, Francis backed up all his barking with a bite.
From a secular point of view, the Church is in almost near control of the modernists and in 10-20 years it will be nothing more than Anglican Communion 2.0. From a Catholic point of view, I'd probably leave the Church altogether if it weren't for the Fatima message and the FSSPX.
Does anyone know which , if any of these new Cardinals are good men (i.e. traditional/Catholic). I was happy Forte did not get it...and Piero Marini's day is probably done. He is 2 yrs. from retirement.
I take confort in the fact that the Patriarch of Lisbon was passed over the first time, but got it this time. Perhaps Moraglia will get it if there is a next time for Francis....which is problematic.
Personally, I believe that he will be dead before he reaches 80 anyway.
I meant to say I believe Francis will be dead before 80, which is less than 2 years away. As for Moraglia, I hope he sees many years past 80. At 61, I hope he becomes a Cardinal the next time....and in the biggest surprise of all, I hope the Cardinals in the next conclave reject the agenda of Francis, and a Catholic is elected (at a fairly young age).
"sinfully abusive"??? I don't see it, your comment seems a bit out there.
I know we're talking about the next conclave, but. The thing that bugs me is +Burke said the laity need to do something; figuratively take up arms in 2015. Um, what exactly are we supposed to do besides pray, which we have been doing? It's the prelates who need to figuratively take up arms, Christ brought peace to men of good will...(oops, they let them change that too). Is it just me, or can anyone else imagine the better half of our hierarchy surviving in the early Church? We don't even fast.
"What exactly are we supposed to do besides pray, which we have been doing?" Well, I should be praying more on it, which I will work on. But another thing I intend to do is make a list of the good, faithful bishops in my area (America) and contact them. I intend to let them know of my concern for the danger that the Church is in, and to offer my financial support to them. If many people do this, perhaps the good bishops can build a strong base from which to keep the Church alive, at least locally. I do believe that the Catholic Church is in a state of civil war. Maybe that is what Cardinal Burke means by "Taking up arms." If we offer our time, talent, and treasure to the faithful bishops, and I mean on a grand, massive scale, then the faithful Church would be a force to be reckoned with.
You can't be flower as you're homophobic and what you're writing stinks. You think you deal with God? Well, you deal more with demons than with God. Please, delete my comment if you wish, but you will not be able to delete the remorse once you realise that being anti-gay is being anti-human and being anti-human has NOTHING to do with God. Pray not for "sins" of other people. Pray for youself.
Me, spiritual gay
There are many good traditional catholic churches like the CMRI or the many independent churches which hold, profess, believe, and teach the true catholic faith.Plus, they actually have valid priest's & bishop's.
Dear spiritual gay or should it be spiritual pride?
One brother rebuking you.
now two
A Holy Catholic priest please.....feel free to help this soul!
Yes, please do.
Nothing could be more important than one's vice, not love, money nor even family and certainly not God.
CMRI THE ARE FANATICS!
YOU ARE CRAZY!!
All cardinals very, very far from Rome, i.e. they'll never come to visit the boR, he's alone, no conflict of interest, "ipse dixit" and full stop. My nightmares come from the Rhyne, whose polluted waters are flooding all Rome, not only the Tiber, Marx, nomen omen, will say the last word for DKK, the end.....nothing to be added, just waiting for the augustinian monk from Eisleben to be canonized, another tango, please, here in the S.Peter's ballroom. MIserere nostri Domine .God bless+
In a world with war, poverty, hunger, environmental destruction, indifference, loneliness, people decide that gay people are the enemy...
Isn't it better to have two people loving each other than hating each other? Isn't it more christian?
I welcome the choice of Archbishop Bo of Rangoon Burma (sometimes referred to as Myanmar). He has done much to promote peace and reconciliation in that divided country. Where he is on the traditionalist/progressive spectrum I do not know but a photo of the high altar in Rangoon Cathedral perhaps gives us a clue:
http://news.salesians.org.au/500-years-of-catholic-church-celebrated-in-burma/
Yes, and in a world with all those problems there are people amazingly preoccupied with a group of people who have confused the small intestine for a sexual organ.
I can se it. The tone is pointedly sarcastic and nasty.
If you don't see it, then perhaps self-examination is indicated.
What's with all the anonymous comments here?
Regardless of the position taken, are you all simply lazy, or unwilling to take responsibility for your words?
I can see why the character who tore into Archbishop Chaput hides his identity; I would, too. But he's not alone in hiding his identity.
I signed in with Google, through whom I am identified by name. I don't know why it did so with the prefix of my email address.
Ordinarily I sign off as Phil Steinacker.
Who are you folks? Why so secretive?
CMRI believes as Catholics once believed.CMRI worships as catholics once worshipped. If we were wrong then, you are wrong now.Dominus Vobiscum
It is the Novus Ordo who are fanatics - liberal modernist ones.
Get your own blog and moderate the comments there as you like.
I wasn't aware that even the homosexuals had managed to achieve that feat of depravity - I think it is the rectum you have in mind rather than the small intestine!
Though, not being too familiar with their bestial perversions, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
It looks like the Archbishop of Philadelphia won't need to buy a red hat. I'd to be a fly on the wall when he meets with the Pope.
I think you might be on to something w/the 'salesian' reference. Wonder how many are in that network? Unfortunately, my first take was he's (re)building the child sex trafficking network for and to enrich the pedophile/sex addict lobby.
And she was upset that a photo of Epstein with the pope hung next to one of him with a young girl.

I hate to say this, but believe Burke is on the payroll (actually, he IS on the payroll!!!!!!). He released a video saying he was so glad to have the Eastern Orthodox at the synod -- well, hell, exactly what part of the "truth about marriage" are we supposed to be demonstrating about? The Eastern brethren GIVE communion to the divorced and remarried! That the purpose of sex is procreation? Burke has signed off on Vatican II and has no problem with the upending of the purposes of marriage.
All protestant sects all divorce and remarriage, birth control and most are in favor of abortion.
In Houston a woman that fundraises for planned parenthood (in her obituary) and has a 'partner' was buried as a Catholic: "Lisa is survived by ...and her loving partner John Hitt and their precious dog Elliott Piccone Benitez (the precious dog has a middle and last name!) .. excelled in her career raising funds for charitable causes as an Event Coordinator/Manager for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast ...She lived her life with a passion for the causes she believed in and supported them by volunteering on boards or committees such as: the Houston Downtown Alliance, The Human Rights Campaign, Houston Community College Central Advisory Board to the Fashion Department, Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, Jane's Due Process, Houston Art Car Ball, and as a Founding Member of Planned Parenthood Young Leaders ... A mass will be held to celebrate Lisa's life (killing spree) Wednesday, December 31, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at The Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Parkway in downtown Houston - pid=173638763#sthash.cZE0Y3tE.dpufhttp://www.legacy.com/obituaries/houstonchronicle/obituary.aspx?pid=173638763

Marriage and the family was destroyed by the Catholic Church at VCII -- when the homos took over and as far as I can see there is NOTHING to distinguish Burke from the rotten fruit. In addition to 'transgendered' nun: With regard to Sister Julie Green, F.S.J., the recognition of the association of the faithful which she and Sister Anne LeBlanc founded was granted only after consultation with the Holy See," he writes. "These are matters which are confidential and do not admit of any further comment.... I can assure you that Sister Julie Green in no way espouses a sex change operation as right or good. In fact, she holds it to be seriously disordered. Therefore, I caution you very much about the rash judgments which you made in your letter to the Apostolic Nuncio." Adds Burke: "I express my surprise that, when you had questions about Sister Julie Green, you did not, in accord with the teaching of our Lord, address the matter to me directly." ..."Burke then asked the conservative Latin-rite religious order, Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, to perform the Tridentine Mass at what was formerly St. Mary's. In February 2002, the order's superior, Monsignor Timothy Svea, pleaded guilty to exposing himself to and molesting teenage boys... What never really got any attention was that Bishop Burke brought them in," says a second priest who asked not to be named. "That's really a sore point for a lot of people in Wausau."

There should be demonstrations against the bishops and cardinals to manifest the true definition of a GOOD SHEPHERD!
I really don't know how people think Pope Francis will be dead by 80!
I don't know if I care any more. I think it will all play out, following it's own trajectory.
People who comment on here, and on the 'orthodox' blogs (I won't say 'traditionalist'), well, I've come to the conclusion that we are all too small. There isn't enough of us. Yes, we can pray, say the Rosary, have Masses said for the Church/priests and all, but can we do anything?
I realise I sound like I've lost hope or something, but after having been to NO Masses over the Christmas/New Year season at my parishes, I've seen EHMC's take Communion out of the Tabernacle during Mass (can they do that?) and purify the vessels (not permitted, I think). One of my priests goes on about people coming up for their Christmas 'priestly blessing' so they don't feel left out, changes the words of the Mass regularly to accommodate his 'priestly blessings' and as Father says, priestly blessings are the same as the Blessed Sacrament. In the meantime, I've noticed that all EHMC rotas on the bulletins and websites are advertised under the heading of 'Ministers of Communion'. Yep, they're now calling themselves priests. No Extraordinary here.
No wonder we have Cardinals et al proposing the Communion be given to adulterers because the Blessed Sacrament is minimalized at a parish level.
I don't know if I care anymore. There's not really anywhere else I can go, and I'm not about to go to the non-licit SSPX. I'm tired of 'Trads' acting like they're Gods-gift-to-Catholicism and I don't like the Mass in the Latin language. My patrimony is the vernacular and hymn singing (and no, I'm not a Satan worshipper). If I've irritated people by what I've just said, well, tough.
I go to Mass on a Sunday, and I get all angry during Mass and think uncharitable thoughts about the situation. It's not good, and I think I'm getting into a habit of it. I find myself wondering why said parish priests aren't more holier, why they don't treat the Blessed Sacrament like the holy-of-holies. But then have to take a reality check, because these priests mental set-up re Catholicism isn't that, and never will be like mine. Sometimes I think they realise, but it's just to damn inconvenient for them to seek out more piety, be more demanding of parishioners, whatevah.
Sorry if I'm whingeing. Re those prophecies of St Malachy. Am I really supposed to think that Francis is the last Pope? Like, after he dies, it's Armageddon, meteor etc, etc. I wonder if it is an allegory to a change in papacy. Meaning, from Francis onwards, popes will push sin as normality? Is this what the prophecies are about?
I don't think I'm very good at defending the faith. I'm hoping I'll keep my mouth shut at a parish level. I sincerely believe I will not win with parishioners and priests alike. I tend to get angry, have a bit of a temper, and I know I'd blow it all in an outburst and achieve nothing (that's what I'm scared of anyway). Sometimes I wish I hadn't been brought up in the faith like I have because my Catholicism no longer exists. I'm passing on the faith to the kid, but the kid's gonna grow up to stick out like a sore thumb as well. For all my priests' and parishioners' grand gestures a la a lay-led Church (including a crap First Holy Communion (I'll never get over it...), it's still generally me accompanied by my child, who goes to First Fridays, weekday Masses, including a Saturday morning Mass etc. Why aren't these lay-leaders and their children attending these extra devotions (not to mention Confession) Where are the other First Communicants from my kid's First Holy Communion Class?
I'm sorry, but it just totally pisses me off. If any of these people should ever call me a Pharisee...
Burke is already a Cardinal
Im sorry but your little added (killing spree) made me laugh out loud. Very clever.
"My patrimony is the vernacular and hymn singing (and no, I'm not a Satan worshipper). If I've irritated people by what I've just said, well, tough."
Your patrimony is what Jesus taught you to pray "Our Father". News flash: the holy sacrifice of the mass wasn't instituted to please you! But hey, if you've irritated God by what you said, "well tough!" I guess the lay people 'leading' your parish have the same attitude. Hope you don't plan on using the pee word to Jesus Christ at your judgment - just another demo of how "catholic" you are (and how you are raising "the kid" that way too). It's none of my business but since you are wondering where the other first communicants and their lay-leader parents are, where is your child's father and his brothers and sisters? hope I didn't totally pee you off!
God, it's my last post here. I'm not going to talk to you, but I hope that one day someone will see what I wrote and will feel relieved. Don't worry everyone who feels they are not OK for God. Remember we're all God's children. There are no chains grater than hatred and no sword greater than freedom, peace and love of God :)
Spiritual gay :)
People who impugn Catholics' faith when they're legitimately angry really brown me off.
But another thing I intend to do is make a list of the good, faithful bishops in my area (America) and contact them. I intend to let them know of my concern for the danger that the Church is in, and to offer my financial support to them.
After you make your list, let the internet vet it for you.
Even after that before giving money to achieve the OPPOSITE of what you intend, talk to Michael (found my OWN forbidden to be called Catholic training co) Voris and Tom (found my OWN catholic colleges (and still suborned)) Monaghan.
Either you are very naïve or you haven't been on the Catholic blog circuit very long
Sometimes the lack of righteous anger points to sin - a lack of love for God and a callousness about serious offence being caused to Him, such as sacrilege of the Blessed Sacrament.
Well done. The majority of those who make their First Holy Communion are not being reared in the Faith, or in accordance with the Moral Law. Those who uphold the unchanging and unchangeable Deposit of Faith and morals are but a tiny remnant - and practising and defending Holy God and the Holy Faith as well as the Natural Moral Law in our hostile, oppressive world takes great sacrifice and willingness to suffer for love of God, and the truth. God bless you.
Homosexual perversion is not love. It is a perversion of all that is good and pure.
The more I think about this, the more scared I get. There is only one explanation for picking Cardinals from obscure places like Tonga, that has a Catholic population of 13,000. These cardinals have no paper trail. We don't know anything about them. If Pope Francis selected a whole bunch of well known heretics of Cupich and Forte, he could have provoked a revolt. So he selected heretics that are unknown, he gets heretics and avoids a revolt. How did Pope Francis pick these men? These men are probably all part of the underground homosexual mafia of priests and bishops. I am sure Francis has been asking around for names of homosexuals in obscure places who have no paper trail and keep a low profile. They all probably have had a homosexual relationship with one of his buddies on a trip to Rome. The average homosexual has something like 4,000 relationships in their lifetime.
Attend a traditional p'arish that rejects Vatican 2 in its entirety!!There are many all over North America.Google search 'Traditional Latin mass
OP here,
I did my research on the CMRI and I don't trust the validity of the "Thuc-line" consecrations. I don't trust an Archbishop who is responsible for the Palmarian Catholic Church and who died in a Novus Ordo monastery after all he went through. Also the majority of sedevacantist chapels are in the USA so, even if I were convinced of the sedevacantist thesis, I wouldn't be able to attend.
Archbishop Alberto Suárez Inda (Mexico) celebrated the TLM publicly. He's turning 76 years old at the end of January. From 2013: http://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2013/12/you-report-traditional-mass.html
The same people who say the SSPX isn't licit are the same people who allow "Ministers of Communion" and treat the Eucharist like a piece of bread.
For your child's sake you should go to the SSPX, so your child doesn't lose the Faith. Take it from a young man who grew up in the Novus Ordo school system, everybody, and I mean everybody left the Faith after High School. I constantly run into moms from my old Novus Ordo parish who complain their children left the Faith or whose High School aged children have lost interest in the Faith. And guess what? None of them want to go to the SSPX because they don't wanna drive the extra 15 minutes or because they want to stay in the parish they grew up in, at the end of the day these parents chose their own comforts over their children's salvation.
Catholicism is passed down to your children primarily by example, what example does the Novus Ordo give them? You tell them the Eucharist if God, yet your entire parish treats it like bread, including the priest himself!
I know I'm just some anonymous person on the internet but take what I say seriously. Your situation is not unique. At the end of the day you're responsible for passing down the Faith to your children and you'll be held accountable for your decisions.
Don't let your child become "Devin" from Church: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiuYmM0lG6o
The number is actually 500.
So, because these people are obscure to us - but not necessarily to their fellow-Tongans, or their other fellow-countrymen - they are to be accused, on absolutely no evidence except that they are not known to their critics, of being men of bad character ?
By that illogic, all Catholics must be of bad character, for all of us are obscure or unknown to most other Catholics. What happened to the Catholic teaching that men are entitled to their good name, and are not to be accused without cause ?
I said probably. That is my thesis. I would love to hear your thesis why Tonga with 13,000 Catholics gets a Cardinal and say Los Angeles with 4.5 million doesn't. The men he selected weren't selected for their scholarship or the achievements. They weren't selected because they represent a big important diocese. Why were they selected? How did Pope Francis even get their names? My thesis is that they are part of the underground global network of homosexual priests that are destroying the Church. The only other explanation I can think of is that he pulled their names out of a hat and he randomly selected them.
Thank you all for your support.
The Palmarians went insane right after he concecrated him, it wasn't Thuc's fault! He went there on the advice of Lefevre.Secondly,he was literally kidnapped the last few months of his life.Thats why Thuc died in a novus ordo monastery in Missouri.Do your research & you will find legitimate bishops he concerted.
It could be that Pope Francis is playing a "long game".
One or two of the new Cardinals are pro-Communion for adulterers and recognition of homosexual unions.
Also one or two are Eastern Rite. So that could herald the introduction of married priests into the Latin Church, perhaps...

Why not have the courage to comment in your own name instead of hiding behind the Anonymous label? Afraid that you might be sued and your assertions found to be baseless and just nasty?
I think that's more likely than them being selected for being homosexuals.
