Bishop Oliveri of Albenga-Imperia |
(Albenga / Rome) The "compassionate cure" which Pope Francis has bestowed upon the Order of the Franciscans of the Immaculate and the deposed Bishop Rogelio Livieres of Ciudad del Este, could be directed against another church representative who in some church circles is more than friendly to tradition. There is talk of Bishop Mario Oliveri of Albenga-Imperia on the Italian Riviera. Bishop Oliveri, born in 1944, was placed under de facto provisional supervision as a coadjutor bishop who has been asked by Pope Francis have an auxiliary bishop to the side.
Since the Diocese of Albenga-Imperia is located near the French border, the allegation that is made to the bishop could also be represented as: " qui veut noyer son chien, l'accuse de la rage ". There are no official allegations. However, it seems to have to do with his friendliness to tradition and above all with a "misstep" in connection with the Franciscans of the Immaculate, which Rome can not seem to forgive.
Growing Number of Candidates for the Priesthood
The diocese of Albenga-Imperia is characterized under Bishop Oliveri, among other things, by a growing number of seminarians. Since the diocese is friendly to tradition and the direction of the training of priests is designed in this sense, priestly vocations are attracted from other diocese in search of a Catholic seminary. The diocese of Albenga-Imperia, which includes only ten percent of the Catholics of Liguria, has more seminarians than the whole rest of Liguria.
The same phenomenon is also experienced by a tradition friendly Diocese of Ciudad del Este in Paraguay. The Bishop has now been dismissed by Pope Francis. Recognize the signs, i.e. a popular slogan of our time, but these signs are not recognized. Some would say they are well recognized, but just to eliminate them. Given the yawning emptiness of many other seminaries has led to resentment of the flowering of Albenga in the past.
"Doctrinal and Liturgical Persecution of Clergé Réfractaire "
"Let us be under no illusions. Some reason will be found. The real reason, however, is a doctrinal and liturgical persecution, which aims to strike the clergé réfractaire which has resisted novel features, as it was already set during the French Revolution," said Messa in Latino.
The decision to appoint a coadjutor was announced today by the Ligurian newspaper Il Secolo XIX . The daily bulletin of the Vatican has published nothing.
Bishop Mario Oliveri was born in the Ligurian diocese of Acqui, consecrated in 1968 where he was incardinated a priest. The thesis of his doctorate at the Lateran University Church in law was published in the Vatican publishing house. After training at the Diplomatic Academy of the Holy See from 1972 to 1990 he was employed in the diplomatic service. In the same year, he was appointed Bishop of Albenga-Imperia. He was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. as a member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the International Council for Catechesis of Congregation of Clergy.
"Misstep" to Defend the Order of the Franciscans of the Immaculate
Bishop Oliveri made the headlines because he celebrated Mass in the Immemorial Rite in the Co-Cathedral of Imperia in 2008 on the occasion of perpetual vows of seven Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception. This created considerable media interest because he was the world's first bishop, who celebrated a public Pontifical Mass according to the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum from the episcopal throne.
The bishop granted the Franciscans of the Immaculate spacious accommodations and conferring upon them the care of several churches and places of pilgrimage. When the Order was put under provisional administration in July 2013, the priests were initially banned categorically and have since been allowed only with the greatest restrictions to celebrate in the traditional rite, Bishop Oliveri took pen and paper and sent a letter to Rome, where he himself defended the Order. He supported the requests of the Franciscans of the Immaculate in his diocese to be able to continue to celebrate the Old Rite and referred to the pastoral care of the faithful at the three Mass locations. In the eyes of many in Rome that was a fatal "blunder."
By the end of 2013, all three branches were closed by Commissioner Volpi in the diocese of Albenga-Imperia. Messa in Latino spoke then of "retaliation" because the bishop "had dared to defend the Franciscans of the Immaculate."

Under this pontificate, all those who esteem, hold, and have the audacity to embrace and practice ALL the traditions of holy Mother Church will be under suspicion and likely to be persecuted when the time is right. They will be called names even by the bishop of Rome! And they will be suppressed where possible. They are not playing nice with the likes of C. Kasper (public lies exposed twice in one week but the darling of the pope).
When the FFI in Argentina moved just beyond the former cardinal's jurisdiction, he never forgot. He does not forget who is not always 'yes' to him and has been removing those who are not. He did not forget the FFI when he came to power. He does not forget who voted against him. Sorry to say but these are facts that are clear.
Unfortunately some of these more traditional bishops keep giving the Pope plenty of ammo to remove them:

There is no point loving the traditional liturgy and traditional doctrine if you don't live by the morality of traditional Catholicism.
Assuming that Bishop Oliveres doesn't live by the morality of traditional Catholicism? He's not himself guilty of these accusations like tending bar part time, getting tattoos and so on.
+++Schōnborn and +++Marx have more problems with bringing sexual predators and "playboy priests" with lurid personal lives than this Bishop. Marx's ongoing construction project is far more extravagant than Teberst Van-Elst's also.
How about a little consistency? Obviously the bar for dealing with traditional clergy is far lower. And while aspects of this report are disturbing, like Doctor Bonello, who committed suicide after sending a report to the Pope, there are far worse things going on that aren't addressed in other parts of the world in "gossiped about"
diocese and abbeys where there is no ecclesiastical discipline.
This bishop may have chosen to trust an indeterminate number of bad eggs, but what the Telegraph article you cited lacks in actual numbers, it can always supplement by appealing to how gossiped about the diocese is and its adherence to actual Catholicism. Indeed, Bishop Oliveri "once celebrated a three-hour Mass in Latin". Horrors!
Almost nobody cares, at least not enough to send out an apostolic visitor anyway, about Bling Rector Toni Faber and his fabulous loft apartment in Wien, or the fact that the German bishops pornography empire subsidizes their own projects in heresy.

Once they get to an appreciable size, and are growing in numbers of committed faithful, conversions, vocations, etc., the wholly orthodox order, institute, priory, diocese, seminary, parish, etc. will be directly attacked to the point of destruction.
I agree with Deacon Augustine. If a liberal bishop allowed this corruption, the Traditionalists would be screaming. The fact is: this "orthodox" diocese has been a homosexual hotbed of flagrant vice. Face up: many perverts clothe themselves in the Old Mass to disguise their gayness. This is a ticking time bomb in many dioceses and priestly fraternities. I know pastors who would be happy to have visiting priests say the EF, even if they don't know it themselves, but they are wary about the effeminacy that often surrounds it. Beware of young guys who like too much lace.
Anyone who instinctively defends this "orthodox" bishop and his "many seminarians" (probably including some who once defended Father Macial and Father Corapi) should read this news report:

Priests are found to be posting naked photos of themselves on a gay Web site, stealing church funds and engaging tin sexual intercourse with church worshippers, an Italian newspaper reports. The priests are now being dubbed as "playboy priests" and are reportedly being recruited by Bishop Mario Oliveri, aged 70. The playboy priests were also attending to part-time jobs as bartenders and are having tattoos.
Pope Francis has reportedly sent an envoy to investigate the allegations against the bishop and its diocese of Albenga-Imperia, in the Liguria region of northern Italy. Bishop Oliveri had been running the diocese for 25 years now, and while he is not guilty of such bad behaviour, he was allegedly active in recruiting vulnerable priests and seminarians who were expelled from their studies.
Recruits include a priest who was found guilty of running a prostitution ring with under-age sex workers. One recruit was identified as Father Luciano Massafero, a parish priest, who had served an eight-year sentence after being found guilty of raping an altar boy. Around the time of his prosecution, Bishop Oliveri was said to be defending him and found excuses for his wrongdoings. Pope Francis had already sent Adriano Bernardini to investigate the alleged "playboy priests" and Bishop Oliveri, The Telegraph reports.
The Torygraph report is kind of wanting don't you think?
The fact of the matter is that practically no one but traditionalists care when Liberal bishops ply their various evil deeds, but regardless of who or what, it's the Catholic Church and by extension, traditionalists who are blamed when someone "important" finally complains about Liberal Bishops doing what they do.
Tancred,
the Telegraph simply translate which two leftist and atheist and anticlerical newspapers, Il Secolo XIX ( Genoa, in odour of masonry) and La Repubblica ( you know, that of E. Scalfari and the famous first Bergoglio' s interview)
published. It is months that they are trying to loath the Bushop, hoping that
Rome ( the Vatican) eventually intervene.
Some of the maligned priests come from the local seminary, who has been directed, until recently, by apriest just nominated Bishop of nearby Sanremo,
who is rumoured to be a Mason. He is also responsible of the bad financial situation of Albenga diocese because he was then the administrator.
However today an official statement was put forth by the diocese and Bishop
Olivieri, negating any intervention whatsoever from Rome. Hopefully this will stop, for the moment being, the bad gossiping.
By the way curious that two leftist journals and a centerright one agree in
defaming a Catholic bishop. N.W.O. anyone ?
Probably this is a sin to say so, but more and more I wish Pope Francis would just quietly and unexpectedly just pass on to his reward in the afterlife...whatever that might be.
"How about a little consistency?" Why would you expect rules of natural justice to apply? It is not earthly powers that we are battling here, but rather the legions of fallen thrones, dominions, powers, angels and archangels. Satan's name means "the adversary" or "the accuser" and he does not consider himself bound to any law of justice in his work of accusing the faithful. It is to be expected that he will concentrate his efforts on those who are most willing to oppose him and follow Christ. Consistency and justice are not part of his MO. Why would he waste time on those who already serve him - wittingly or unwittingly?
I think we need to seriously consider that Our Lady's warnings at La Salette, Fatima and Akita are coming to fruition - the diabolical disorientation is on us and its coming to a head. Receiving justice from this Pope is the least of our concerns. All we can do is pray and go to Confession often.
The Torygraph might say it's conservative, might appeal to conservatives, but it's always anti-Catholic.
The post-conciliar papacies are a divine scourge on we Catholics for false obedience and a lukewarm disregard for the true faith and the Latin liturgy. We ignored the admonitions of several Popes and Our Blessed Lady. Now we must deal with the consequences.
Our Blessed Lady warned us about chastisement with both innocent & guilty suffering in common. Pray we keep the true Roman Catholic Faith - 'But yet the Son of man, when He cometh, shall He find, think you, faith on earth?' St Luke:18.8
