Father Paolo Maria Siano of the Order of Franciscans of the Immaculate and excellent connoisseur of Freemasonry addresses the question as to whether the well-known Jesuit and theologian of the 20th century was a Freemason. "Freemasons not, but Masonic minded"
Father Siano wrote on the subject in 2007 an essay: Karl Rahner, massonico '? Il pensiero di Karl Rahner e la Cultura Massonica a confronto (The "Masonic" Karl Rahner Karl Rahner's Thought and the Masonic culture in comparison?), In: Fides Catholica 2 (2007) 2, pp. 315-360 . An English translation is not yet available. Could this be but one reason why the Order is being broken today?

On this great feastday of St. Ignatius of Loyola one cannot but look with longing at his stand against the heretics Luther and Calvin who nearly destroyed the Church that the great Saint saved. Now we have a Jesuit Pope that praises Luther and creates all sorts of heresies himself to destroy the Church. God help us.

Father Siano says that Karl Rahner was not a Freemason but “Freemason-minded.” One can look through the writing of Giovanni Maria Mastai-Ferretti, the Italian liberal bishop who later became the conservative Pius IX and find “Masonic Thought.” That one can find such “Masonic Thought” in the writings of Karl Rahner, a student of and collaborator with Joseph Ratzinger (now Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI) is a canard that proves nothing except the idiocy of those who bring up any such “question.” Rahner was not a Mason, that is all that need be said. Don’t waste your readers’ time by attacking the theological work of a (deceased) priest in good standing whose thought is beyond the grasp of your intellect.
I don't know why it would be a shocker that a Mason would espouse Freemasonic ideas and be an enemy if the Church. Considering Rahner's intimate relationship with East German Communist Luise Rinser, it's not a ridiculous or unintelligent suggestion.
A short History lesson from a Catholic Prof

I agree, it is no shocker that a Freemason would think like a Freemason. Wel then, maybe Mastai-Ferretti was a Free-Mason. He thought like them. And he had friends among them. If you ever go back to school, be sure to take the basic logic course in philosophy, you obviously missed it.
There is some evidence he was a Mason, as many churchmen have been, but you're entitled to your opinions about logic and what not.
You've commented before and you were hostile then too.
Of course Rahner was a free mason! Most Jesuits are......
The real question is was he a Catholic .
consolation, perhaps you should try reading those logic books again
I see red herrings and ad vericundiam fallacies in your comments (not to mention condescension and arrogance).
What logical fallacies have been committed here specifically?
Make all Priests, Bishops and Parish Council Members go through a basic security check for membership in Freemasonry, including the polygraph. Government bodies in security environments have been doing this for years. Anyone who won't submit to it out the door. Start with Ratzinger, the one who removed the restriction from canon law. The 'letter' he wrote in response to Cardinal Law's query on behalf of the US Conference of Catholic Bishop inquery on Freemasonry means ZIP. That's the way Catholic Masons treat it. A big diversion.
It is known factually that there were at one time around the time of The Vatican Councils over 100 Cardinals were involved one way or another with freemasonry. Frankly, to pretend today's church is not masonic defies reality.
For Consolamini I would say that saying that Karl Rahner in good standing is a lie of the same type as trying to give the impression that Blessed Pius IX as also thoughts that can be linked to free masonry. It ia clear that you don't know a thing about Rahner and neither about Pius IX. Somehow Jesuits like to condemn Pius IX and I wonder why. Then, Father Siano actually proves in his document the links of Father Rahner to the freemasons. Back in the day saintly priests used to be killed amd persecuted by freemason, but now it seems normal that a "priest in good standing" as friends that are freemasons. Amd also father Siano proves in his article (by Rahner's own words) that Rahner is actually a disobedient priest that wants to put amd end to the papacy and in many issues as protestant as Luther, and in some ways even worst. Rahner spent his life trying to teach the opposite of what the catholic church as allways taught, as influenced people like Hans Kung, Loenardo Boff and the liberation theology crew, and had friends like Scheelbeckx (the one of the holand catechism), Chenou, Congar and many other apostates. I can't see where that puts him in good standing.
