Vatican (Catholic news / CBA). Pope Francis has reminded the Spanish bishops to be concerned about the training of candidates for the priesthood. This aspect should be given "absolute precedence" by each bishop, he said Monday during a visit by Spanish diocesan heads at the Vatican. He required them to insist on a precise selection of the candidates and to ensure a good education of students and faculty. The Spanish bishops are at present on so-called ad limina visits to Rome to report on the situation in their dioceses. The Spanish Church is presented some major challenges according to the Pope. "Right now you have the hard experience of the indifference of many baptized and you have to defend yourselves against a secular culture, which wants to displace God in private life and exclude Him from the public space," said Francis. In contrast, the bishops should boldly proclaim the Gospel and find new ways thereby.

That reminds me of pre-conciliar evangelism going right back to Apostolic times. As for "new ways" it looks as though all of them to this point have failed since 1965. The more "new" the post-conciliar church dabbles in the worse are the consequences. new pastoralism; new liturgy, new evanglisation, ReNew, the renewal movement, the decade of evangelisation (1990s) and New dawn have all been tremedous flops. The only success has been with the Neo-Catechumeal Way which has invalid liturgies, is excessively Judaeic and catechises its followers that the modern church has it all wrong. I spent three years observing this movement from inside.
The more the "new", the more the same old sorry tale of deterioration and decline into apostasy.
The Church is ever new, She seeks to form a new man and:
"And I will go in to the altar of God: to God who giveth joy to my youth. To thee, O God my God, I will give praise upon the harp:
why art thou sad, O my soul? and why dost thou disquiet me? Hope in God, for I will still give praise to him: the salvation of my countenance, and my God."
Indeed, Tancred. The Church does not need to find new ways because The Lord creates all things new. The secret is in the faith itself and how we live that gift. The Latin Mass is always new, each time we attend. The Blessed Lord represents Himself and speaks to us as He finds us.
The post-conciliar church is forever trying to fabricate what may be new in terms of modernisation but which lacks in organic embodiment.
The interior life is both profound and mysterious. The pre-conciliar church understood this but it needed to be reanimated, as Pope St Pius X had indicated. He did not call for a reform or a revolution but a restoration. To which I must add Amen! Amen!
I would like to thank you for your lovely blog. It is an act of great love by you. You have an open style which is appreciated.
