Edit: I know for a fact that Archbishop Nienstedt doesn't know how to say the Immemorial Mass of All Ages, but he has "celebrated" at them and shown his support on at least one occasion by being present in choir. Some commenters have pointed this out. Well, it depends on what you mean by "celebrates" Mass. Technically, anyone can "celebrate" Mass.

I thought Mike Sheridan of Colorado Springs also said some Masses, though I could be mistaken.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it's possible the excellent Accion Liturgica blog may have left a few out.
ReplyDeleteDidn't also mons. Bürcher, the Bishop of Reykjavik, Iceland, confirm some children in the old rite when he was still auxiliary in Switzerland?
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I'm almost sure that there are more Australians, and I've asked readers of my blog (Australia Incognita) to add to the list!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, not to be a pedant, but Sidney should be Sydney, Camberra=Canberra, Jaret has two ts...
Thank you for sharing this list!
ReplyDeleteA still-startling but telling omission: the Bishop of Rome, Benedict XVI.
Matthew - Pope Benedict XVI has noticeably not celebrated an EF post SP!
ReplyDeleteBut there are some additions for Australia: Bishop Connors (Ballarat), Bishop Oudeman (Auxiliary of Brisbane).
Does anyone know when and where Cdl George of Chicago said the TLM? I know he sat in chior at the Institute of Christ the King, but I had not heard that he ever said the Mass.
ReplyDeleteJerry
I am surprised at how many of them are American! More than any other country it looks like, with the top 5 being USA, Italy, France, Britain(another surprise)and Brazil. Some countries only have one!
ReplyDeleteI need to remember how blessed we are here in the USA. Usually no too hard to find a Latin Mass or a Bishop to celebrate one.
BTW - Bishop Hurley was in choir & didn't actually say the Mass. I was there! But our new parish pastor pointed out that there is a lot more ceremnoy and such for a Bishop to celebrate the TLM and perhaps that is why it worked out as it did.
An addition and a correction: Bishop Tobin of Providence has not celebrated the T.L.M., at least not publicly. He has administered Confirmation (outside of Mass) according to the 1962 books. However Bishop Gelineau (one of the bishops emeriti of Providence) has done so at least a couple of times. Also, the previous abbot of Portmouth has celebrated pontifically if you want to count him. All of these Masses have been at Holy Name of Jesus in Providence where, incidentally, Cardinal Arinze, Bishop Timlin, and Bishop Rifan (multiple times) have also celebrated Mass in the past eight years...
ReplyDeleteAnd as long
why no brits?
ReplyDeleteGreat Britain's up there.
ReplyDeleteI did not see the following in the list:
ReplyDeletePORTUGAL: Don Teodoro de Faria, Bishop Emeritus of Funchal, Madeira, Portugal
He offered a series of Pontifical TLM's in the USA in October 2013, in honor of Blessed Karl of Austria, and sponsored by the Traditional Knights of Columbus.
