Good! To tell you the truth, I think that good has come out of all of this if it exposes the EWTN/CatholicAnswers/NCR crowd for what they really are...these are the same people who throw the words "bitter", "angry", "judgmental" at the traditionals. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!
These people have shown their true colors finally. I hope that the scales have fallen from many a Catholic's eyes.
I am not going to generalize like the person above making blanket statements about EWTN/CatholicAnswers is not accurate or helpful (NCR Yeah I give you that one) However I do agree it has certainly exposed many of those to whom we have looked upon for being straight shooters and not in the pockets of bad Bishops.
I don't think he's guilty of doing whatever this woman said he did, but there are some people out there, as Voris said, who are quietly enjoying this one, because they're part of the cabal Father Corapi was so openly critical about.
Mark Shea is one of the most destructive forces in Catholic blogdom, far too ready ready to grasp at any bit of gossip when it helps him heap the calumny on one of his targets. These days, he seems to be googling 'Father Corapi', and parroting any bit of slander that comes up. He's peddling the alleged Special Forces fib at the moment.
Like Voris, I don't know much about the Corapi case--and, I have to be honest, as a traditionalist, I have never been drawn to Corapi's neo-catholic style--but the eagerness with which people like Shea are attacking him at this moment is disgusting.
Tancred, would that this is so - about Shea being finished after this. But I don't think so. He is not lacking toadies or sychophants. A sucker is born every minute, and in the circles She hangs in, they are legion.
Sad to say, most Catholics would rather be on the popular rather than the side of truth.
I've only begun acquainting myself with Mr Shea and thus far find him very typical of a certain type of person: young, inexperienced, quick-tempered, mildly articulate, unwilling to admit to error, bombastic, self-righteous, and a great believer in hitching his wagons to the "approved" good guys in the Church. I know that type of person well because, except for the last point, that would have been a fairly accurate description of me in the 1970s.
But there was no internet in the 1970s so I made an ass of myself only to a small, select group. Mr Shea, on the other hand, is making an ass of himself before the whole world, and his smugness is only equalled by his ignorance of Church history. Unfortunately, he is promoted by a great many people who really should know better, including one or two distinguished professors at a number of conservative Catholic colleges (one of his most vocal supporters being the charming but peculiar Prof John Zmirak). This gives his blogging a sheen of pseudo-respectability which it hardly deserves. And so many fairly solid Catholic bloggers link to his insufferable site, although many can see thgrough him fairly fast.
With regard to many Church-related issues he tiresomely tows the neoCatholic line. On some other issues Mr Shea seems to be rather well informed so we can but hope that he will one day grow older, a little wiser, and cultivate a humility that is so necessary in these dark days.

I'm a mean old radtrad, critical of a lot of people in the Church, but speculating about a priest's character in some 'she-said' situation? Hell no.

I think Shea's finished after this and the Bishop of Corpus Christ's ecclesiastical career should be over within the year.
