Pastor of Purple Basilica in charge of Cutting Parishes in Archdiocese of St. Paul

Editor: Pastor who refuses to give definitive teaching from the pulpit or a firm public statement on the sin of homosexuality and publicly implies that one need not hold all the teachings of the Catholic Church to be Catholic is in charge of "strategic planning" for which parishes are cut.

Is it wise to have a man who doesn't agree with the core philosophy of your company in charge of cutting parishes? It doesn't sound like wise management.

We can think of a few pro-homosexual parishes that need to be cut.

St. Paul, Minn. — The Catholic Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis will announce significant changes to its parishes over the weekend.

A strategic plan, 20 months in the works, will recommend some parishes merge and close churches, and others will cluster and share priests.

Father John Bauer, pastor of the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis, helped lead the strategic planning. He said declining enrollment in the core cities, priest shortages and financial strain made the changes necessary.

  1. I only read part of this. What are we supposed to do with homosexual people? I am straight but I'm so tired of open season on gays.

Just yesterday I got real with myself and decided that I cannot say any longer that I am a true Catholic....whatever that means. I cannot follow all of their "rules" and really no longer want to try. I would rather spend the rest of my life trying to get to know the living Jesus Christ.

There are hundreds of gay people every year who take their own lives because of their own self hatred and loathing because all they are ever told is they are sinful, unnatural, they are going to hell.....on and on. To me, the real abomination is that so called "Christian" people drive these people to the point of hopelessness and suicide.

How about looking at ourselves. What else is an abomination.........abortion, adultery, greed, abuse, sexual activity outside of marriage, birth control? If you are such good catholics then I'm sure none of you has ever done any of those things.

If you want to see the real sinner....we should just all look in the mirror.

  2. It is not 'open season' on gays! Rather the militant gay agenda has declared war on marriage and family as instituted by God and on anyone who disagrees with them.

We must speak the truth about the homosexual lifestyle. Gay sex, promiscous sex will not get a soul into heaven. It is an intrinsic evil. I said the act is evil. I did not say the person is evil. SSA is a great cross to bear. But many of us have great crosses to bear.

Thousands of straight people commit suicide too because of self-loathing, etc. No group has a corner on that one.

God set down commandments and our happiness here and in the hereafter lies in following them. Sex outside of the true marriage that can only ever be between one man and one woman is a breaking of God's law, not just Church law.

I am sorry you feel you cannot be a Catholic and live an intense sacramental life, to have your sins forgiven in confession and to receive God Himself in Holy Communion. Turning your back on that is a high price to pay for a stance on unnatural sexual appetites.

  3. @bknd

perhaps you need to do a little more study on this topic.
and to say that so-called Christian drive these people to suicide?
that's a little simplistic ma'am, not to mention incorrect.

we love the sinner. not the sin.

so, because the Church (and Jesus' teachings) won't budge to accommodate the political correctness of the moment, you're going to choose to give up the Eucharist (Jesus)?

    interesting choice.

  4. Darn it! St. Joan of Arc wasn't one of the parishes to be cut! But then I don't imagine any other parish would want to be merged with it. The Archbishop should just cut that one loose.

  5. They're going to take out Holy Trinity which probably doesn't need to go away and keep a hothouse like Cabrini going.

Bottom line, Godless contracepting liberals and homosexual couples have a lot of disposable income at the end of the day.
