There was a Jesuit novice at the VA a couple of Summers ago. From Davenport. He's really great! Hopefully he is part of a new batch of Jebbies.
I had to caution him, though, to keep his mouth shut on certain issues. There's a priest in Ohio who said that the most important mission for a seminarian is to get ordained, not reform the Church. He can do the reform business AFTER he is ordained.
I'm fairly certain that the habits of keeping one's mouth closed that's learned in the Seminary is a life-long habit. Being able to speak one's mind openly is reserved for Seminarians of a dissident streak, while covert dissent on things we no longer joke about is a kind of parlor game.
