The ABC article takes a jab at celibacy and wonders why the Catholic Church didn't do anything sooner. Moreover it fails to mention that this man was a
homosexual. These ACLU, Progressive types don't care about child-abuse, they will reach for the closest weapon, the most convenient one with which to beat the Catholic Church. Never lose sight of that. Of course, this happened on Cardinal Pell's watch.
Happened on Cardinal Pell's watch?!? What do you mean?
ReplyDeleteIt did not. He probably wasn't even a bishop at time, let alone in the state of New South Wales.
The first report of this man that we know of was in 2008 which is well within Cardinal Pell's dates of tenure. Although the crimes were committed well before Cardinal Pell's enthronement in the See of Syndney, the priest in question doesn't seem to have had any other administrative censure until 2008. It would be strange for a predator like this to cease his activities for a twenty year period like that.
ReplyDeleteYour point is a good one, however, and we will endeavour to find out if the priest in question was disciplined prior to 2008 before the accusations which landed him in jail were made.
Thanks for your attention and correction.
Cardinal Pell had no responsibilty for this, the diocesan bishop was either Leo Clark or his successor, not Cardinal Pell, who for all his faults on church/state doctrine, is innocent in this.
ReplyDeleteIt's clear that there's only one way to stop this plague.
ReplyDeleteBoth ecclesiastical and secular courts must punish sodomy with death.
With all due respect, the convicted felon was as far as we know on the Cardinal's staff as an active priest in good standing although these events took place a long time ago and were well-known.
ReplyDeleteWe'll continue looking.
Newcastle is a suffragen diocese to Sydney which would, if not mistaken, belong to Cardinal Pell. This monster was still at large even after 2000 when Cardinal Pell took over in New South Wales.
ReplyDelete"In 2000, after police charged Denham again regarding a different set of incidents, a jury convicted him. Despite this conviction, the church continued to use him as a relieving priest in parishes at weekends.
In 2006, police investigated more complaints about Denham. Finally, on 8 July 2009, Father John Denham pleaded guilty to sexually abusing dozens of boys during the 1970s and 80s. "
