Benedict Groeschel of EWTN is clueless about Saul Alinsky

Not only did Father Groeschel host a Paulist on his show, which is a strategic mistake of colossal proportions in itself, but he also was clueless when Saul Alinksy, who wrote a Marxist guide to "community organizing" dedicated to Satan, was mentioned. Most people are familiar with the Paulists themselves and their present reputation for being big on challenging church teaching and welcoming the spirit of the world. The founder of the Paulists, Isaak Hecker himself, was mentioned by name in Leo XIII's encyclical Testem Benevolentiae in the most unfavorable terms.

Father Groeschel, no stranger to hippiedom himself had no idea who Alinsky was, that's pretty surprising in itself, almost as surprising as having consistent orthodox shows on EWTN, a network gone wrong that don't promote crypto-marxism in one way or another... In any event, the Paulist gave a defense of Alinsky that he was a good friend of Jaques Maritain, which surprised us again, because unlike the author of the romancatholic blog, we don't regard Maritain very highly at all and offering him up as an endorsement of Alinsky doesn't bode well for either men, considering what they in fact were in the end. Mauritain in addition to having a strange definition of being, doesn't believe in the existence of Hell according to Romano Amerio, author of the monumental Iota Unum on page 697 and 698. Lets also mention that worthless "faith and culture" show that had on the loon who wrote the commentary on "Theology of the Body". I believe his suggestion was that young couples "bless their genitals" Not to be crude but WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT!? When Mother Angelica retired/resigned, the Libs crept in and yes the Bishops finally won control of that powerful network. Father Groeshel has recently made statements that basically had us scratching our heads. He really needs some prayers as he's had serious medical issues which may be affecting his reasoning. Also, I notice that EWTN still holds fast to Mother Angelica's images and old shows as they know she brings in the dollars even though she has nothing to do with the network, nor do her nuns and haven't in YEARS. That by the way was told to me by one of her right hand nuns a few years ago and it surprised us because the way they portray it on EWTN you'd think she was still running the network. I wonder how much money Mr Warsaw gives to Mother and her nuns out in Hanceville? Anything?

It should be noted that Pope Leo XIII penned Testem Benevolentiae not as a corrective to the life of Hecker himself, but rather to a prologue to his biography that was added during its translation into French, wherein the translator advocated modernism. Ah, the French. Hecker himself had nothing to do with it, and I'm sure he'd be disappointed to see the dissent that has crept into the Paulists.

Dear Mr. Swaim;

thank you for commenting on our blog and making this point.

It wasn't just the prolouge but the entire biography that the Pope Leo XIII mentions. Moreover, Father Hecker was legitimately challenged for his Americanist errors as well as Pelagianism as he himself was an inspiration, in turn, for the Sillonist movement in France.

Moreover, you can see in him the errors that later enflame the Church worldwide in vitro with men like Fr. Hecker in the 19th and 18th Centuries.

The fawning review he gets in Catholic Encyclopedia is one more reason not to trust that publication overmuch:

I think people should wake up to the fact that EWTN deals in particularly crude distortions in sacramental thinking.The debates about modesty in dress allow people with serious problems about fetishism and infant sexuality breathe their madness abroad. I've heard rubbish like you mention about the Theology of the Body . Let's face it-these people are fixated. The youth ministry is dominated by warmongers and monks obsessed with sexually transmitted disease ! These people are not holy, they are simply not in their right minds prompted by religion. It's sad but so true about all of them and it has very dangerous effects on the young and the old.

Father Groeschel has turned into a titanically self-occupied bore...he also puts people from his own coterie into his personal line up of "saints". This is a crazy practice...sleight of hand !
